Our verdict on xExchange

6.8/10

xExchange suits users already active on MultiversX who want a native place to swap tokens, provide liquidity and stake. Its main strength is the integrated set of pools, farms and the MEX energy system, backed by the team that built the chain. The main caveats are no listed audits, a single-chain footprint with modest liquidity, and fee and tokenomics rules that are still being revised through proposals. Newcomers should start with small swaps and read the current rules before locking MEX.

What is xExchange?

xExchange is a decentralized exchange built on the MultiversX network. It is described as an automated market maker built by the same team that created the MultiversX blockchain. Its homepage summarizes it as a place to trade tokens, earn rewards and discover projects.

The product has three main parts: token swaps, liquidity pools and farms, and staking. A native token, MEX, ties these together through an energy system that rewards users who lock it. The protocol has been live since late 2021 and tracks about $3.9 million in total value locked, all on MultiversX.

Governance is run through a public forum where users discuss product, strategy and tokenomics. Recent threads include a proposal to improve the fees collector mechanism and a v3 testnet feedback category. The project does not publish audit details, team names or a full fee schedule on its homepage.

How xExchange works

xExchange is an automated market maker. Instead of matching buyers and sellers, it holds pairs of tokens in pools. A swap changes the ratio of the two tokens in the pool, and the price moves according to a formula. Liquidity providers deposit both tokens and receive a claim on the pool and a share of the fees it generates.

On top of basic pools, the app has an Earn area with farms and staking. Users can put liquidity positions or tokens into these to receive extra rewards. Which pools and farms exist, and what they pay, changes over time.

MEX is the protocol token. Locking it creates energy. The documentation says the higher your energy, the greater your benefits, including a boosted APR on farm positions. The mechanism rewards users who commit to the protocol for longer, but it also ties up capital.

7 features

Key features

01

AMM token swaps

Swap tokens against liquidity pools on MultiversX using an AMM model rather than an order book.

02

Liquidity provision and farms

Users deposit tokens into pools and earn a share of trading activity, with farms offering extra rewards on top.

03

Staking farms

An Earn section includes staking farms where users stake tokens and choose how to provide the liquidity.

04

MEX energy system

Locking MEX creates energy, which boosts APR on farm positions and increases benefits across the protocol.

05

Project discovery

The homepage describes the app as a place to discover projects, which fits its role as a main trading venue on MultiversX.

06

Community governance forum

An open forum hosts proposals, such as the xEIP on improving the fees collector, and general discussion about product and tokenomics.

07

v3 testnet

A v3 testnet release with a dedicated feedback category shows a next version being tested in public.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Built by the team behind the MultiversX blockchain, so it is closely tied to the chain's ecosystem.
  • Covers swaps, liquidity pools, farms and staking in one app.
  • MEX energy rewards longer-term participants with boosted farm APR.
  • Public forum with live proposals on fees and tokenomics shows active community involvement.
  • A v3 testnet is open for feedback, which signals ongoing development.
  • Documentation includes step-by-step guides, for example for staking.

Watch out for

  • Liquidity is concentrated on a single chain, MultiversX, so trading depth and the user base are narrower than on large multi-chain DEXes.
  • No third-party audits are listed for the protocol in the sources reviewed.
  • Tracked TVL is modest at around $3.9 million, which can mean wider price impact on larger swaps.
  • Getting the most from farms means locking MEX for energy, which adds lock-up and token-price exposure.
  • Fee routing and tokenomics are still being changed through community proposals, so rules can shift.
  • Liquidity provision carries impermanent loss and smart-contract risk, as with any AMM.

xExchange fees

The sources reviewed do not publish a specific swap fee percentage or a fee split between liquidity providers and the protocol. Users can see the fee on a trade in the swap interface before confirming, and pool details in the Liquidity section. Network gas fees on MultiversX also apply to each transaction.

Fee handling is an active topic. A 2025 proposal aims to restructure how fees are routed and distributed through the fees collector, and a separate community suggestion proposed converting pool fees into a staked MEX form for stakers. Check the forum for the current outcome before assuming how fees are shared.

Is xExchange safe?

No audits are listed for xExchange in the sources reviewed, and the project does not publish an audit report on its homepage. This does not mean the contracts are unsound, but readers cannot verify a third-party review from these sources. As a non-custodial DEX, you keep control of your tokens in your own wallet, but you still take smart-contract risk when you swap or deposit.

Liquidity providers also face impermanent loss, and thinner pools can mean higher price impact. Governance proposals can change how fees and rewards work, so read current forum posts before locking MEX. No incidents are noted in the sources reviewed. Never commit more than you can afford to lose.

6 steps

How to get started with xExchange

  1. 1

Set up a wallet that supports the MultiversX network and fund it with EGLD for gas and the tokens you want to trade.

  2. 2

Open the xExchange app and connect your wallet.

  3. 3

Make a small test swap first and check the displayed fee and price impact before confirming.

  4. 4

To earn, open the Liquidity section, pick a pool and add both tokens.

  5. 5

Use Earn and then Staking to find a staking farm, following the guide in the documentation.

  6. 6

Consider whether locking MEX for energy suits your time horizon, and read the current rules before locking.

Who xExchange is for

xExchange is for people who hold assets on MultiversX and want to swap them, provide liquidity or stake without leaving the ecosystem. It also suits users willing to lock MEX for a longer period in exchange for boosted farm rewards. It is less suited to traders who need deep multi-chain liquidity or a project with published audit reports.

xExchange FAQs

What is xExchange?

xExchange is a decentralized exchange running on the MultiversX network. It uses an automated market maker model, so users trade against liquidity pools instead of an order book. It is built by the same team that built the MultiversX blockchain.

Which blockchain does xExchange use?

It runs on MultiversX. You need a MultiversX-compatible wallet to connect and trade. It does not currently list other chains.

What is the MEX token used for?

MEX is the native token of xExchange. Locking MEX gives you energy, and the more energy you hold, the greater your benefits, including a boosted APR on farm positions.

How do I stake on xExchange?

The staking guide says to log in, open Earn and then Staking, choose a staking farm and pick how you want to provide the liquidity. Available farms and rewards change over time, so check the app for current options.

Has xExchange been audited?

No audits are listed for the protocol in the sources reviewed, and the project does not publish an audit report on its homepage. Treat smart-contract risk as real and only commit funds you can afford to lose.

How are changes to xExchange decided?

Governance discussions happen on a community forum, where proposals such as changes to the fees collector mechanism have been posted. There is also a v3 testnet and a feedback category for it, which suggests a newer version is in development.

Can I lose money providing liquidity?

Yes. Providing liquidity to an AMM pool exposes you to impermanent loss when token prices diverge, plus smart-contract risk. Farm rewards may or may not offset that, depending on the pool.
