ButterSwap Review 2026: AMM DEX, Farms and NFT Gaming
ButterSwap is an AMM DEX with yield farming, BUTTER staking and NFT features, launched on HECO and BSC in 2021. Its liquidity is now small and its documentation looks dated, so treat it as a legacy small-cap protocol.

Weak
Our verdict on ButterSwap
4.8/10ButterSwap suits experienced DeFi users curious about an older AMM, farming and NFT platform that began on HECO and BSC. Its main strength is the breadth of products and the listed audits. The main caveat is size and freshness: TVL is about $84,000, the documentation is roughly five years old, and the planned multi-chain expansion is not confirmed. Anyone using it should check the live app and contract addresses first and use only small amounts.

What is ButterSwap?
ButterSwap is an automated market maker DEX that launched in 2021 on HECO and later added BSC. It describes itself as a one-stop platform combining token swaps, liquidity mining, yield farming and NFT gaming.
Beyond the exchange, the docs list farms, pools, a launch pad, a cross-chain bridge, two NFT auction markets and a DAO-style board. Its BUTTER token is earned through LP farming and staking, and it gives holders a vote on listings and reward changes.
The current picture is modest. DefiLlama shows roughly $84,000 in TVL across BNB Chain and HECO, and the introduction page was last updated about five years ago. Planned expansions to Polygon, OEC and Ethereum are described as future work in that text.
How ButterSwap works
ButterSwap is an automated market maker. Instead of matching buyers and sellers, it holds pools of token pairs, and a pricing formula sets the exchange rate based on pool balances. Anyone can add two tokens to a pool and receive LP tokens that represent their share.
Those LP tokens can be staked in farms to earn BUTTER, the platform token. BUTTER can then be staked in a separate pool to earn more BUTTER. The docs say BUTTER can be obtained only through these two routes.
BUTTER also carries governance rights. Through the board system, holders vote on new token listings, reward reductions and development priorities. The project also built NFT auction markets and a cross-chain bridge on top of the same platform.
7 features
Key features
01
AMM exchange
An AMM exchange where users swap tokens against liquidity pools instead of an order book. Users can also add token pairs to pools.
02
Yield farming
Liquidity providers stake LP tokens in farms to earn BUTTER rewards. The docs include farming tutorials for both BSC and HECO.
03
BUTTER staking
BUTTER can be staked in pools to earn more BUTTER. The token is mined only through LP farming and this staking.
04
DAO board voting
A board system, now in its second version, lets BUTTER holders vote on new token listings, reward reductions and system development.
05
NFT auction markets
The docs list two NFT auction market versions plus an NFT section, aimed at combining liquidity mining with NFT gaming.
06
Launch pad and bridge
A launch pad and a cross-chain bridge sit alongside the DEX. Public reporting also point to an explorer for tracking cross-chain swaps and bridge transactions.
07
Community campaigns
Programs include an airdrop, referral rewards, a Top Chef contest and a hunt for a Golden Lobster tied to the LOBSTER (LB) token.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Covers the full DeFi basics in one place: swaps, LP farming, token staking and a launch pad.
- DefiLlama lists two audits and credits CertiK and Knownsec, so the contracts have had outside review at some point.
- The smart contracts are described as fully open source, and the docs link a contracts page.
- BUTTER holders can vote on listings and reward reductions through a board system.
- Beginner tutorials cover BSC and HECO farming and wallet setup with TokenPocket and MetaMask.
Watch out for
- Total value locked is only about $84,000, so liquidity is thin and large trades are likely to move prices.
- The documentation was last updated about five years ago, and the planned expansion to Polygon, OEC and Ethereum is not confirmed as delivered.
- One of its two listed chains, HECO, is a legacy network with little activity today, which limits where the DEX is useful.
- The team, fee schedule and token supply details are not published in the main introduction page.
- The audits are listed but their dates and scope are not stated, so it is unclear whether later contract changes were reviewed.
- The product mixes DEX, farming, NFT gaming and a bridge, which widens the contract surface users are exposed to.
ButterSwap fees
The introduction page does not publish a fee schedule. Swap fees, the share paid to liquidity providers and any bridge charges are not stated there.
Users would see the exact swap fee and price impact in the exchange interface before confirming a trade. They would also pay network gas on BSC or HECO. Farming rewards come in BUTTER, whose value can be volatile.
Is ButterSwap safe?
DefiLlama lists two audits, and the project describes itself as audited by CertiK and Knownsec. The documentation has a dedicated audit page and a smart contracts page. The audit dates and the scope of those reviews are not stated in the introduction.
As an on-chain AMM, users keep custody of their tokens in their own wallet, but deposited funds are exposed to smart-contract bugs, impermanent loss and rewards that can fall in value. With TVL around $84,000, liquidity is shallow and prices can move sharply. The team, a bug bounty and any incident history are not published.
The documentation has not been updated for years, so verify contract addresses and the live interface carefully to avoid copycat sites. This is not financial advice.
6 steps
How to get started with ButterSwap
- 1
Read the introduction, FAQ and audit pages in the documentation to confirm what is currently live.
- 2
Set up a compatible wallet such as MetaMask or TokenPocket and add the BSC or HECO network, following the tutorials in the docs.
- 3
Check the live pools and TVL in the app, and confirm token contract addresses against the official smart contracts page.
- 4
Start with a small swap to see the quoted fee and slippage.
- 5
If you add liquidity, understand impermanent loss, then stake LP tokens in a farm to earn BUTTER.
- 6
Revoke unneeded token approvals afterward and keep only what you can afford to lose in the protocol.
Who ButterSwap is for
ButterSwap is for DeFi users who want to look at a small, older AMM with farming, staking and NFT features, particularly on BSC. It is less suited to anyone who needs deep liquidity, active development or a clearly published team and fee structure.
ButterSwap FAQs
What is ButterSwap?
ButterSwap is an automated market maker DEX that also offers yield farming, BUTTER staking pools, NFT auction markets, a launch pad and a cross-chain bridge. It started on HECO and added BSC.
What is the BUTTER token used for?
The BUTTER token is earned only through liquidity-provider mining in farms and by staking BUTTER in pools. Holders can also vote on matters such as token listings and reward reductions through the board system.
Which blockchains does ButterSwap support?
The documentation says it supports HECO and BSC, and plans for OEC, Polygon and Ethereum were announced. DefiLlama tracks it on BNB Chain and HECO only.
Has ButterSwap been audited?
DefiLlama lists two audits and describes the platform as audited by CertiK and Knownsec. Audit dates and scope are not given, and an audit does not remove smart-contract risk.
How much liquidity does ButterSwap have?
Its TVL is about $84,000, which is very small for a DEX. Small pools mean high slippage and greater exposure to price swings, so size any position with that in mind.
Is ButterSwap still active?
The introduction page was last updated about five years ago, so it is not clear how actively the original DEX is maintained. Public reporting shows a cross-chain bridge explorer under the ButterSwap name, which suggests some activity has moved in that direction. Check the current app before depositing.
