ActiveBalancer CoW AMM Review 2026: Anti-LVR Liquidity Pools
Balancer CoW AMM is a pool type built with CoW DAO that tries to capture MEV for liquidity providers instead of leaving it to arbitrageurs. It is a technically interesting design, but liquidity is very small.

Our verdict on Balancer CoW AMM
6.0/10Balancer CoW AMM suits technically minded liquidity providers who want to see whether batch-auction pricing can reduce arbitrage losses. Its main strength is a clear design aimed at LVR, backed by Balancer and CoW DAO. The main caveat is scale: TVL is only about $41.7K, no audits are listed in the tracking data, and fees are not published. Treat it as an experimental pool type and size any deposit accordingly.

What is Balancer CoW AMM?
Balancer CoW AMM is a decentralized exchange pool type developed by Balancer and CoW DAO. It is described as the first MEV-capturing AMM, built to protect liquidity providers from LVR arbitrageurs so they can provide liquidity with less risk and more return.
The idea came out of a strategic partnership announced in 2024 between Balancer and CoW Protocol. It sits within the wider Balancer protocol, whose homepage calls it DeFi's most extensive AMM product suite. Tracking data lists CoW AMM since August 2024 on Ethereum, Gnosis, Arbitrum and Base.
Adoption looks small. Total value locked is about $41.7K and fell 8.5% over the last seven days. The BAL token is associated with the protocol. The project does not publish audit links on its homepage, and the tracking data lists no audits for this deployment.
How Balancer CoW AMM works
A normal AMM holds two tokens in a pool and lets anyone trade against it at a price set by a formula. When the market price moves, arbitrageurs trade with the pool until its price catches up, and they keep most of that profit. Liquidity providers bear the cost, known as loss-versus-rebalancing (LVR).
Balancer CoW AMM links the pool to CoW Swap. Orders are gathered into batches, and competing solvers bid to settle them. In this design, the competition is meant to pass the value that arbitrageurs would have captured back to the pool. The design is also referred to as a function-maximizing AMM (FM-AMM).
Each CoW AMM is a pair of two tokens. It can act as a liquidity source alongside other venues, much like a uniform-weight Balancer pool. Beyond this, the sources reviewed do not describe pool parameters in detail.

Key features
01
MEV-capturing design
CoW AMM is described as the first AMM designed to capture MEV, with the aim of returning value to liquidity providers.
02
LVR protection
The mechanism aims to protect LPs from loss-versus-rebalancing, the cost of arbitrageurs trading against stale pool prices.
03
CoW Swap batch auctions
The design uses the competitive batch auctions of CoW Swap, where solvers compete to settle orders.
04
Two-token pair pools
Each CoW AMM is a pair of two tokens, and it can be treated as a liquidity source similar to a Balancer weighted pool with uniform weights.
05
Multi-chain deployments
Tracking data lists deployments on Ethereum, Gnosis, Arbitrum and Base.
06
Open-source code and data
The code is developed in a public repository, and a subgraph is available for Arbitrum for those who want to query pool data.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Targets a real structural problem for LPs: value lost to arbitrageurs through LVR.
- Built by Balancer and CoW DAO, two established DeFi teams.
- Runs on four EVM networks: Ethereum, Gnosis, Arbitrum and Base.
- Code is developed openly, with documentation and a subgraph available.
- Pools are simple two-token pairs that are easy to reason about.
Watch out for
- TVL is only about $41.7K and fell 8.5% over seven days, so liquidity is thin and trades of any size may get poor pricing.
- No audits are listed in the tracking data for this deployment, and the project's homepage does not point to audit reports.
- Fee levels for liquidity providers and traders are not published in the material reviewed, so costs are hard to compare in advance.
- Anti-LVR protection depends on solvers and batch auctions working well, which adds dependencies beyond the AMM contracts.
- Liquidity providers still carry smart-contract risk and price risk on their deposited tokens.
- The product is a niche pool type inside the wider Balancer suite, and the homepage gives little detail on how to use it.
Balancer CoW AMM fees
The material reviewed does not state a swap fee or liquidity provider fee for Balancer CoW AMM pools. Users would see pool-specific fees in the pool interface or app before depositing or trading.
As with any AMM, network gas fees on Ethereum, Gnosis, Arbitrum or Base apply on top of any protocol fee. Earlier community discussion shows Balancer agreed to lower fees on trades coming from CoW Swap, but current fee levels are not published in the sources reviewed.
Is Balancer CoW AMM safe?
The tracking data lists no audits for this deployment, and the homepage does not link audit reports. Anyone considering a deposit should look for audit reports on the CoW AMM contracts and the Balancer protocol itself. The wider Balancer protocol has a long operating history, but that does not remove smart-contract risk for this newer pool type.
Pools are non-custodial, so funds sit in smart contracts rather than with a company. Risks include contract bugs, solver or batch-auction failures, and impermanent loss on the paired tokens. The project does not publish a regulatory status in the materials reviewed. This is a research summary, not financial advice.
6 steps
How to get started with Balancer CoW AMM
- 1
Confirm that using DeFi protocols is legal where you live, and only use funds you can afford to lose.
- 2
Set up a self-custody wallet that supports Ethereum-compatible networks and fund it with gas on the chain you plan to use.
- 3
Open the Balancer app and look for CoW AMM pools on Ethereum, Gnosis, Arbitrum or Base.
- 4
Check each pool's token pair, fees and current liquidity before depositing, given how small total TVL is.
- 5
Read the available documentation and any audit reports for the CoW AMM contracts.
- 6
Start with a small deposit, then monitor your position and withdraw if the pool no longer suits you.
Who Balancer CoW AMM is for
This is for DeFi users and liquidity providers who understand impermanent loss and LVR and want to try an experimental pool design. It is less suited to beginners or to traders who need deep liquidity for larger swaps.
Balancer CoW AMM FAQs
What is Balancer CoW AMM?
It is an automated market maker built by Balancer and CoW DAO. Instead of letting arbitrageurs trade against the pool at stale prices, it routes trading through CoW Swap batch auctions so that value is captured for liquidity providers.
What is LVR and why does it matter?
LVR stands for loss-versus-rebalancing. It is the value liquidity providers lose when arbitrageurs trade against a pool whose prices lag the wider market. CoW AMM is designed to reduce that loss.
Which blockchains does it run on?
The tracking data lists Ethereum, Gnosis, Arbitrum and Base. Check the app for the pools currently available on each network.
Does Balancer CoW AMM have its own token?
The tracking data shows the BAL token, which is the Balancer protocol token. The CoW AMM listing does not name a separate token of its own.
Is it safe to provide liquidity?
No. Providing liquidity carries smart-contract risk, price risk on the paired tokens and reliance on the batch-auction mechanism. The tracking data lists no audits for this deployment, so read any available reports before depositing.
What are the fees?
The materials reviewed do not state fee levels. Fees would be shown in the pool interface before you deposit or trade, so check them there.
