What Shiba Inu is
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is a meme token issued on Ethereum. It began as a dog-themed imitation of Dogecoin and is often described as a joke project that grew far beyond its origins. Its creator is known only by the pseudonym Ryoshi, and the project describes itself as community-led, with no central leadership.
Over time the project built an ecosystem around the token. That ecosystem includes ShibaSwap, a decentralized exchange, and Shibarium, a Layer 2 network meant to make transactions faster and cheaper than on Ethereum's main chain. The community, known as the ShibArmy, is a large part of the project's identity.
As of 2026-11-05, SHIB ranked about 36th by market capitalization, at roughly $2.78 billion. The price was about $0.00000471. The token trades in tiny fractions of a cent because of its very large supply. Like most meme coins, its value depends mainly on attention, sentiment and trading activity rather than on cash flows or revenue.
What the token is used for
SHIB is the main token of the ecosystem and works as a general-purpose currency within it. Holders can trade it on exchanges, send it between wallets, and use it in ShibaSwap, where users can swap tokens, provide liquidity and earn rewards. A small number of merchants and services have accepted it as payment, though everyday spending is limited.
The project uses a three-token model:
- SHIB is the primary currency for trading and payments.
- LEASH is a secondary token with a scarcity-based design, aimed at long-term supporters.
- BONE is the governance token. Holders vote on proposals through the Doggy DAO, and BONE also serves as the gas token on Shibarium.
This means SHIB itself is not the fee token for the Layer 2 network, which is a common point of confusion. For most holders, the practical use of SHIB is still speculation and community participation. Any utility beyond that depends on how actively people use ShibaSwap and Shibarium, which can change over time.
Supply and tokenomics
The data shows about 589.24 trillion SHIB in circulation and about 589.50 trillion in total supply, with no fixed maximum supply listed. Because circulating and total supply are almost the same, fully diluted valuation and market cap are about equal, at roughly $2.78 billion as of 2026-11-05.
The initial supply was widely reported as one quadrillion tokens. The current total is lower because tokens have been removed from circulation, most notably in a large early transfer that was mostly burned, and through later community burns. A burn sends tokens to an address nobody can spend from.
Burns are often promoted as a way to make SHIB scarcer. Given the enormous supply, though, the amounts burned have been small compared with the total, so the effect on price has been limited and hard to separate from other factors. Readers should treat claims that SHIB is deflationary with caution and look at actual supply figures instead.
The project's descriptions do not give a detailed team allocation or emissions schedule, so this page does not state one.
Chains, holding and trading
SHIB is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum. It is also available in other forms through bridges, and on Shibarium, the project's own Layer 2. Bridged versions are separate contracts, so it matters which network a wallet or exchange is using when sending funds.
It is listed on many large centralized exchanges, which is how most people buy and sell it. At the time of writing, 24-hour trading volume was about $56.3 million, which suggests active but not extreme trading for a top-40 asset. It can also be swapped on decentralized exchanges, including ShibaSwap and other Ethereum-based venues.
In general terms, there are two ways to hold SHIB. On an exchange, the platform holds the keys for you. In a self-custody wallet, you hold the keys yourself. Sending SHIB on Ethereum requires ETH to pay network fees, which can be significant relative to small transfers. Shibarium aims to lower those costs, using BONE for gas.
Always check the contract address from an official source before trading, because copycat tokens with similar names exist.
History and notable events
SHIB appeared in 2020 and, according to the data, was trading at very low levels by late November that year, when its all-time low of about $0.0000000000564 was recorded. Its main run came in 2021, when meme coins attracted heavy retail interest. SHIB reached its all-time high of about $0.0000862 on 2021-10-27. The price at the time of writing is far below that peak.
A widely reported event from 2021 was that Ryoshi sent a large share of the supply to Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin. He burned most of it and donated a portion to a COVID relief fund. Later the team moved beyond the token itself, launching ShibaSwap, adding LEASH and BONE to the structure, and building Shibarium.
Since the peak, the price has been volatile. As of 2026-11-05 it was down about 46% over the previous year and down about 2.4% over seven days. These are descriptions of past moves, not forecasts.
Risks
SHIB carries the usual risks of a meme coin, plus some of its own.
- Volatility. Prices can fall sharply, as the roughly 46% one-year decline shows. Large drawdowns from the 2021 peak are part of its history.
- Sentiment-driven value. Demand depends largely on social attention and market mood. Utility from ShibaSwap and Shibarium is smaller than the token's market value might suggest.
- Huge supply. With hundreds of trillions of tokens and no listed maximum, large price gains would require very large inflows of capital.
- Concentration and anonymity. The founder is pseudonymous, and large holders can move the market.
- Scams and imitations. Fake tokens, phishing sites and fraudulent giveaways using the Shiba Inu name are common.
- Complex structure. Three tokens, a DEX and a Layer 2 add smart-contract and bridge risk.

How to store SHIB safely
If you hold SHIB on an exchange, you rely on that platform's security. Turn on two-factor authentication, use a unique password, and avoid keeping more there than you need for trading.
For self-custody, a hardware wallet gives the strongest protection for long-term holdings because the private keys stay offline. Software wallets are more convenient but are exposed to malware and phishing. Whichever you choose, write down the recovery phrase on paper, store it offline in more than one safe place, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support staff.
Before sending SHIB, confirm the network, whether Ethereum or Shibarium, and send a small test transaction first. Verify the token contract address from an official source, and be cautious with unexpected airdrops or approval requests. Review and revoke old token approvals periodically, because an unlimited approval to a malicious contract can let it drain your tokens.
By the numbers
Shiba Inu in numbers
Shiba Inu (SHIB) is ranked #36 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $2.71B and a price of $0.000004590 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($2.71B) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.
The price was down 2.2% over 7 days, down 17.6% over 30 days, down 49.0% over the past year. It trades about 95% below its all-time high of $0.00008616, set on Oct 27, 2021.
About 589.24T SHIB are in circulation. No hard maximum supply is listed, so new tokens can still be issued.
24-hour trading volume was about $66.6M, or 2.5% of its market cap: moderate turnover.
SHIB has token contracts on Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

SHIB FAQs
What is Shiba Inu (SHIB)?
SHIB is a meme token issued on Ethereum. It started as a dog-themed imitation of Dogecoin and now sits at the center of an ecosystem that includes ShibaSwap and Shibarium. Its value is driven mostly by market sentiment and trading activity.
What is SHIB used for?
SHIB is mainly traded and held, and it can be used within ShibaSwap for swaps and liquidity. A few merchants accept it as payment. Governance and Shibarium gas fees are handled by the BONE token, not SHIB.
How many SHIB tokens are there?
The data lists about 589.24 trillion SHIB in circulation and about 589.50 trillion in total, with no maximum supply set. The initial supply was widely reported as one quadrillion, and some tokens have since been burned.
What blockchain does Shiba Inu run on?
SHIB is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum, and it is also used on Shibarium, the project's Layer 2 network. Shibarium uses BONE as its gas token. Always check which network you are using before sending tokens.
Why is SHIB's price so low and so volatile?
As of 2026-11-05 SHIB was about 46% lower than a year earlier and far below its 2021 all-time high. Meme coins tend to move with market mood and attention rather than fundamentals, so large swings in both directions are normal. Nothing here predicts future prices.
Does burning SHIB make it more valuable?
Burning SHIB removes tokens from circulation, but the supply is so large that the amounts burned so far are small by comparison. It is hard to credit burns with any specific price effect. Treat claims that burns will drive the price up with caution.
What is the market cap of Shiba Inu?
As of Nov 6, 2026, Shiba Inu had a market cap of about $2.71B, ranking #36 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of SHIB?
Shiba Inu's all-time high is $0.00008616, reached on Oct 27, 2021. Its all-time low is $0.00000000005637 (Nov 28, 2020). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of SHIB?
As of Nov 6, 2026, about 589.24T SHIB were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.
Which blockchains is SHIB on?
It has token contracts on Ethereum.
