Bonk (BONK): What It Is, Uses and Risks

Bonk (BONK) is a dog-themed memecoin that started on the Solana blockchain. According to the project's own description, it launched on Christmas Day 2022, shortly after the FTX collapse had left the Solana community discouraged. It was presented as a fun, community-first token rather than a venture-backed product.

The project says an anonymous team of 22 Solana developers and builders created it, and it markets itself as the first Solana dog coin "for the people, by the people". It rejects venture capital backing in favor of community ownership. Like other memecoins, BONK has no underlying cash flows or claims on a company. Its value rests on attention, community and the products built around it.

At the time of writing it ranks around 144th by market cap. It is listed in the Meme, Dog-Themed and Solana Meme categories, and it has spread well beyond Solana, as covered below.

BONK has no single, hard-coded function. What is publicly known is that it works as the community token of a loose ecosystem on Solana. Third-party write-ups describe uses such as trading, tipping, rewards, small DeFi integrations, NFT projects, mini games and community experiments. One early guide counted more than 250 on-chain integrations built by the community.

Several native products are tied to the token. LetsBonk.fun is a memecoin launchpad that, according to the project, briefly overtook Pump.fun in Solana market share in 2025. BonkSwap is a decentralized exchange on Solana with BONK pools and token-lock rewards. BonkBot is a Telegram trading bot with built-in burn mechanics.

Governance runs through BonkDAO, which the project says holds 15% of supply and decides through on-chain voting. Beyond this, much of BONK's use is speculation and social signaling, and readers should treat it as such.

The project describes an initial supply of 100 trillion tokens, with 50% distributed by airdrop to community members such as NFT collectors, developers and artists. BonkDAO is said to hold 15%.

As of 2026-11-05, the data shows a circulating supply of about 88.0 trillion BONK, with a total supply of about the same figure and a maximum of roughly 88.0 trillion. The drop from the original 100 trillion reflects burns. The community has organized several burn events, the best known being the December 2024 BURNmas campaign, which the project says destroyed 1.69 trillion tokens.

Because nearly all tokens are already circulating, the fully diluted valuation matches the market cap, about $263.2M at the time of writing. That removes the risk of a large scheduled unlock, but it does not say anything about how concentrated holdings are among large wallets, which is worth checking on a block explorer.

BONK began on Solana, where fast confirmation and low fees make small transfers and trades practical. It has since been issued on other networks too: Ethereum, Aptos, Arbitrum, Polygon, Unichain and BNB Chain, according to the data. The project itself says it is available on 10 networks. BONK is not the native coin of any chain, so you need the chain's own token to pay fees, such as SOL on Solana.

In general terms, people hold BONK in a self-custody wallet or on an exchange. It is traded on decentralized exchanges such as BonkSwap and on centralized platforms. The project lists Binance, Coinbase, Kraken and Robinhood among them, though availability depends on your country and the platform's rules.

Versions of BONK on other chains are typically bridged or wrapped representations, so check that you are using the correct contract and network before sending anything. Sending a token to the wrong network can mean permanent loss.

BONK's airdrop-heavy launch spread tokens to many Solana users, and it became one of the better-known Solana memecoins. Its price reached an all-time high of about $0.0000583 on 2024-11-19, and its all-time low was about $0.0000000861 on 2022-12-29.

In December 2024 the community ran the BURNmas campaign. In 2025, LetsBonk.fun drew attention as a launchpad rivaling Pump.fun. In September 2025, according to the project, Nasdaq-listed Safety Shot, Inc. formed BONK Holdings LLC and acquired over 2.5% of the circulating supply, which the project calls an early example of corporate treasury adoption of a memecoin. It also says core contributor Nom joined Safety Shot's board.

Market performance has been uneven. As of 2026-11-05 the price is around $0.00000299, down about 1.6% over seven days and about 74% over one year, which is far below the 2024 peak.

Memecoins are volatile, and BONK has shown it. A fall of roughly 74% over a year illustrates how much holders can lose, and the token can move sharply on social media sentiment, Bitcoin's direction and competition from newer memecoins. Daily trading volume was about $27.5M at the time of writing, so liquidity can thin out quickly in stressed markets.

Other risks include:

• Concentration risk: large holders, a DAO or corporate treasuries can move the market if they sell.
• Ecosystem risk: products such as launchpads and trading bots carry their own smart contract and security risks, and launchpad tokens are often scams or short-lived.
• Impersonation risk: fake BONK tokens and phishing links are common on every chain it uses.
• Anonymity: the founding team is anonymous, so accountability is limited.
