What Ethena USDe is

Ethena USDe (USDE) is a dollar-pegged token that works differently from most stablecoins. Instead of holding mainly bank deposits or short-term government debt, it is a synthetic dollar. The project describes it as delta-hedged, with yield coming from crypto staking rewards and perpetual futures funding rates.

In simple terms, the protocol holds crypto assets as backing, such as staked ETH or liquid assets of that kind. It then opens short futures positions of roughly equal size on derivatives venues. If the crypto price rises, the backing gains value and the short loses about the same amount. If it falls, the reverse happens. The net value stays close to one US dollar, which is what lets USDe aim for a $1 price.

This design is often called a cash-and-carry or basis structure. It means USDe is not redeemable against a bank account in the traditional sense. Its stability rests on the hedge working and on the venues and custodians involved. At the time of writing, USDe ranks around 23rd by market capitalisation and sits in the stablecoin category, trading at about $0.999 as of 2026-11-05.

What the token is used for

The main use of USDE is as a dollar-denominated unit that can move on-chain. Holders use it for trading pairs, as collateral in lending markets, as liquidity in decentralised exchange pools, and as a way to park value without leaving crypto.

A second use is yield. Ethena offers a staked version of the token, commonly called sUSDe, which accrues returns generated by the hedging strategy. Those returns come from staking rewards on the collateral and from funding payments on the short futures positions. They are variable and can fall, and funding can turn negative, so no fixed rate should be assumed.

USDe is also widely integrated across DeFi protocols, which accept it as collateral or use it in vaults and pools. Ethena has a separate governance token, ENA, which is a different asset from USDe. the public information available here do not describe further utilities for USDE itself, so this page keeps to the roles above: a synthetic dollar for trading, collateral and, through its staked form, yield.

Supply and tokenomics

USDe does not have a fixed maximum supply. Supply expands and contracts as the protocol creates and redeems tokens against its backing, so the amount in circulation follows demand rather than a preset schedule.

As of 2026-11-05, the data shows circulating supply of about 4.52 billion USDE and total supply of about 4.59 billion. Market capitalisation was about $4.52 billion, with a fully diluted value of about $4.58 billion. These two figures are close together because the token is meant to track one dollar. Trading volume over the previous 24 hours was around $62 million.

Price history shows how tight the peg has usually been. The token changed by almost nothing over seven days and about 4 percent over a year in the data. Its recorded all-time high was about $1.034 on 2025-12-09, and its all-time low was about $0.929 on 2024-10-03. There are no mining rewards or inflation schedule in the usual sense. Growth in supply reflects people minting USDe, and shrinkage reflects redemptions.

Chains, trading and how it is held

USDe is issued on a long list of networks. The data lists 28, including Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base, Avalanche, Linea, Mantle, Ton and Aptos, as well as newer or niche chains such as Monad, MegaETH, Plasma and Hyperliquid L1. USDe is not the native token of any chain.

On the primary side, minting and redeeming directly with the protocol is generally limited to approved participants, such as institutions and market makers. Most people instead acquire USDe on the secondary market. That means buying it on centralised exchanges that list it, or swapping into it on decentralised exchanges on the chain they use. Prices on these venues are kept near $1 largely by arbitrage between the secondary market and the mint and redeem process.

Because the token exists on many chains, the version you hold depends on the network you are on. Moving between chains typically uses a cross-chain messaging or bridging system. Always confirm that you are on the intended network and that the token address matches the one published by the project before sending funds.

History and notable events

Based on public sources provided, USDe is a synthetic dollar built around delta-hedging and crypto-native yield. The data does not give a launch date, so this page does not state one. What the data does show is a recent price record: a low of about $0.929 in October 2024 and a high of about $1.034 in December 2025, both small moves compared with most crypto assets.

Those moves are still worth noting. A stablecoin that has traded outside a narrow band shows that the peg is maintained by market mechanisms rather than guaranteed. Moves like these can happen during stressed markets, when exchange prices diverge from the value of the underlying hedged position.

Supply growth has been a notable feature. USDe reached a multi-billion-dollar market cap and a top-25 ranking, which placed it among the larger stablecoins by size. For a detailed timeline of specific events, partnerships and incidents, readers should consult the project's own documentation and announcements, as this page does not list items that cannot be confirmed.

Risks to understand

USDe carries risks that differ from fiat-backed stablecoins.

Funding rate risk. The strategy earns when long traders pay shorts. In periods when funding turns negative, the hedge can cost money rather than earn it, which may drain reserves the protocol holds to absorb such losses.

Venue and custody risk. The short positions sit on derivatives exchanges, and collateral is held with custodians. Failure, hack, restricted withdrawals or liquidation problems at any of them could affect backing.

Peg and liquidity risk. Redemption is limited to approved parties, so ordinary holders depend on market liquidity to exit. In a rush, secondary prices can fall below $1, as the all-time low in the data shows.

Smart contract risk. Contracts on many chains, including bridged versions, can have bugs or be exploited.

Regulatory risk. Synthetic dollars and yield-bearing stablecoins may face rules that change how they can be offered or used.

Yield risk. Returns on the staked version are variable and not guaranteed. Nothing here is investment advice, and holding any stablecoin means accepting the possibility of loss.

How to store it safely

USDe is a standard token on each chain, so it can be held in any compatible self-custody wallet. For meaningful amounts, a hardware wallet connected to a software wallet interface is a common approach, since it keeps private keys offline. Write down the recovery phrase on paper, store it away from the device, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone.

Before sending, check that the receiving address supports the same network as your tokens. A transfer on the wrong chain can be hard or impossible to recover. Confirm the official token contract address from the project's own documentation rather than from a search result or a message from a stranger, as counterfeit tokens with the same name exist.

When approving DeFi apps to spend your USDe, review the permissions and revoke ones you no longer use. Keeping funds on an exchange is an option for trading, but it means trusting that platform. Consider splitting holdings across more than one wallet or venue so that a single failure does not affect everything.

By the numbers

Ethena USDe in numbers

Ethena USDe (USDE) is ranked #23 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $4.52B and a price of $0.9987 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation ($4.58B) is close to its market cap, so little new supply is still to come.

The price was up 0.0% over 7 days, down 0.1% over 30 days, down 0.0% over the past year. It trades about 3% below its all-time high of $1.03, set on Dec 9, 2025.

About 4.52B USDE are in circulation, from a total supply of 4.59B. No hard maximum supply is listed.

24-hour trading volume was about $45.9M, or 1.0% of its market cap: low turnover, so large orders can move the price.

USDE has token contracts on 28 chains we track, including Ethereum, Hyperliquid L1, Scroll, Manta. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

USDE is linked to Ethena Usde, which we cover in our Stablecoin Issuer rankings. See our Ethena Usde page for how the protocol works and how we score it.

USDE FAQs

Is USDe the same as USDT or USDC?

No. USDe is a synthetic dollar backed by crypto assets and offsetting short futures positions, not by bank deposits or government bonds. Its stability depends on the hedge, exchanges and custodians working as intended.

Where does the yield on USDe come from?

The project says yield comes from staking rewards on collateral and from funding rates paid on perpetual futures. Holders typically receive it by staking USDe into its staked form, sUSDe. The rate varies and is not guaranteed.

Does USDe always stay at $1?

USDe is designed to track one US dollar, and it traded at about $0.999 as of 2026-11-05. Its recorded range includes a low of about $0.929 in October 2024 and a high of about $1.034 in December 2025, so small deviations do happen.

How do I get USDe?

Minting and redeeming directly with the protocol is generally for approved participants. Most people buy USDe on exchanges that list it or swap into it on decentralised exchanges on their chosen network.

Does USDe have a maximum supply?

No. USDe has no fixed cap because supply grows and shrinks as the protocol mints and redeems against its backing. At the time of writing, total supply was about 4.59 billion.

Is USDe the same as ENA?

No. ENA is Ethena's separate governance token. USDe is the synthetic dollar, and the two assets have different roles and different price behaviour.

What is the market cap of Ethena USDe?

As of Nov 6, 2026, Ethena USDe had a market cap of about $4.52B, ranking #23 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of USDE?

Ethena USDe's all-time high is $1.03, reached on Dec 9, 2025. Its all-time low is $0.9295 (Oct 3, 2024). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of USDE?

As of Nov 6, 2026, about 4.52B USDE were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.

Which blockchains is USDE on?

It has token contracts on Ethereum, Hyperliquid L1, Scroll, Manta, Avalanche, Arbitrum, zkSync Era, Monad and 20 more.
