What Global Dollar (USDG) is
Global Dollar (USDG) is a stablecoin designed to hold a value of one US dollar. Each token is meant to be redeemable with the issuer, Paxos, for one US dollar, and Paxos says redemption is available around the clock.
USDG is issued by Paxos Digital Singapore, which is described as a Major Payments Institution supervised by the Monetary Authority of Singapore. In the European Union it is issued by Paxos Issuance Europe Oy, an Electronic Money Institution regulated by the Finnish Financial Supervisory Authority. The project states that USDG complies with the EU's Markets in Crypto Assets Regulation, known as MiCA.
The project's own description lists several safeguards: reserve assets held in segregated accounts on trust for token holders, monthly independent attestations of those reserves, and annual audits. Those are claims made by the issuer, so read the current attestation reports for details on what the reserves contain.
In short, USDG is a fiat-backed, regulated dollar token. It moves on blockchains but depends on the issuer, its reserves and its redemption process to keep the peg.
What USDG is used for
Like other dollar stablecoins, USDG gives people a way to hold and move dollar value on a blockchain without the price swings of assets like Bitcoin or Ether. The project highlights fast transfers, round-the-clock availability and programmability, meaning the token can be used inside smart contracts and apps.
Public information points to several uses. Exchanges and platforms offer it as a trading pair or a place to park value. Some partners have introduced earn programs around it, and AMINA Bank, Gate, Kraken, Luno and OKX were named as examples in a December 2025 announcement. Business-oriented coverage also describes cross-border payments as a possible use, mainly because of its regulatory positioning.
USDG is also tied to the Global Dollar Network, which says it aims to speed up and reward stablecoin adoption. Its pitch to platforms is that they can receive a share of the returns generated by the assets backing USDG held on their platform, and potentially other incentives for minting and acceptance. That revenue-sharing design is a main way USDG differs from many other dollar stablecoins.
USDG is not a governance token and does not represent ownership of anything beyond a redemption claim on the issuer.
Supply and tokenomics
USDG has no fixed maximum supply. As of 2026-11-05, the data shows about 2.81 billion tokens in circulation, and the total supply is the same figure. That put its market capitalization at about $2.81 billion and its market-cap rank at around 35. Because it is pegged to a dollar, its fully diluted value is the same as its market cap.
Supply works differently from a typical cryptocurrency. New USDG is created when a customer deposits dollars with the issuer or an approved partner, and tokens are destroyed when they are redeemed. So supply rises and falls with demand rather than following a preset schedule.
There is no staking reward or inflation built into the token itself. Any yield comes from programs run by platforms or partners, funded in part by returns on the reserve assets, and terms vary between providers.
At the time of writing, 24-hour trading volume was about $770 million, and the price sat at about $1.00. The data lists an all-time high of about $1.65 in January 2025 and a low of about $0.91 in November 2024. Outliers like these on a stablecoin often reflect thin early trading or data quirks, so treat them with caution.
Chains and how it is held and traded
USDG is issued on several networks: Ethereum, Solana, Arbitrum, Mantle, Ink, X Layer and Robinhood Chain. It is not the native token of any chain, so you still need that chain's own coin to pay network fees in most cases.
Most people hold USDG in one of two ways. The first is on a centralized exchange or platform that lists it, where the balance sits in an account and the platform holds the keys. The second is in a self-custody wallet that supports the relevant network, where you control the keys and send transactions yourself.
Trading usually happens in two places. Centralized exchanges list USDG pairs, and decentralized exchanges let wallet users swap it against other tokens on supported chains. Moving between chains typically requires a bridge or a supported transfer route, and the version of the token on each chain should be checked carefully before sending.
Redemption directly with Paxos for dollars is generally available only to verified customers who have passed the issuer's onboarding checks. Most holders instead sell on an exchange or use a platform's conversion feature.
History and notable events
the public information available about USDG's history are limited, and the data does not give an exact launch date. What is known is that it was created by Paxos and is tied to the Global Dollar Network, which presents itself as an open network supporting stablecoin adoption.
A notable milestone came in December 2025, when the network said it had grown to more than 100 partners. Those partners were described as using USDG in a range of ways, including earn programs offered by several exchanges and a bank. USDG's presence on newer chains such as Robinhood Chain, Ink and X Layer shows how the token has been spread across many ecosystems.
Its regulatory framing is part of its story. The issuer highlights supervision in Singapore and the EU, along with MiCA compliance, as a core feature. That differs from some older stablecoins that began with looser oversight.
By November 2026 the token had reached a market cap of roughly $2.8 billion and a place in the top 40 by that measure. Check the issuer's announcements for current partner lists and any changes to supported chains, as these change over time.
Risks to understand
Stablecoins carry risks that differ from those of volatile coins. None of the following is a prediction, and this page is not investment advice.
Peg risk. USDG aims for one dollar but is not guaranteed to hold it. Market stress, reserve problems or redemption disruptions could pull the price away from $1, at least temporarily.
Issuer and reserve risk. Value depends on Paxos holding sufficient, liquid reserves and honoring redemptions. Attestations and audits help, but they are snapshots in time, and the reserve mix can change.
Regulatory risk. Rules for stablecoins vary by country and change often. Availability can differ by region, and exchanges may delist or restrict tokens.
Platform and yield risk. Earn programs from third parties are not the same as holding the token itself. They can involve counterparty risk, changing rates and withdrawal limits.
Technical risk. Smart contracts, bridges and wallets can have bugs or be attacked. Sending USDG to the wrong network or address can result in permanent loss.
Centralization. As with other issuer-backed stablecoins, the issuer may be able to freeze or block certain addresses to comply with legal requirements.
How to store USDG safely
Where you keep USDG depends on how much you hold and how often you use it. For small, active balances, a reputable exchange account may be convenient, but you rely on the platform's security and solvency. Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app or hardware key, and use a unique password.
For larger or longer-term holdings, self-custody in a wallet is an option. A hardware wallet keeps your private keys offline and is generally considered safer than a browser or phone wallet for significant amounts. Write down your recovery phrase on paper, store it somewhere secure and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including anyone claiming to be support.
Before sending, confirm that the receiving address supports the same network as your tokens. Send a small test transaction first, and keep a little of the chain's native coin to pay fees.
Be wary of approval requests from unfamiliar apps, fake token contracts and links in messages. Check the contract address in the issuer's official documentation, and revoke old token approvals you no longer need.
By the numbers
Global Dollar in numbers

24-hour trading volume was about $770M, or 28% of its market cap: very high turnover.
USDG has token contracts on 7 chains we track, including Solana, X Layer, Mantle, Ink. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
