ThetaSwap is a Uniswap-style automated market maker on the Theta Network, run by OpenTheta. It is functional and simple, but liquidity is small and no audits are listed.

Good
Our verdict on ThetaSwap
6.5/10ThetaSwap suits Theta Network users who want a simple, non-custodial place to swap TFUEL, wTHETA and TDROP, with a clear 0.3% fee and no extra charge. The main caveat is size: roughly $140K of liquidity, about $5K daily volume and no listed audits. Keep trades small, verify token contracts and treat liquidity provision as high risk.

What is ThetaSwap?
ThetaSwap is a decentralized exchange on the Theta Network. DefiLlama describes it as the first DEX built on the Theta blockchain, using open-source smart contracts based on automated market maker logic like Uniswap. It has been listed since January 2022.
The homepage says you can swap TFUEL, wTHETA, TDROP and other TNT-20 tokens from your own wallet, add liquidity, or buy tokens by card. It is built and run by OpenTheta, which also runs an NFT marketplace and the sTFuel staking product.
It is small. DefiLlama shows about $140.7K in TVL, and the homepage shows $138.2K liquidity, about $5K 24h volume, 168 trades and 51 listed tokens. TFUEL pools hold most of the liquidity. That suits Theta users who want a native swap venue, but it limits depth for larger trades.
How ThetaSwap works
ThetaSwap is an automated market maker (AMM), similar to Uniswap. Instead of an order book, trades happen against pools that hold two tokens, such as TDROP and TFUEL. The price moves with the ratio of the two tokens in the pool.
When you swap, the interface compares the direct pool with a route through TFUEL and picks the better quote. The 0.3% pool fee goes to liquidity providers, who deposit both tokens in a pool and earn a share of the fees.
Trades settle on-chain from your own wallet, so the exchange does not hold your funds. Liquidity providers face impermanent loss when token prices diverge, and the site's own simulator shows a TDROP/TFUEL position that lost value over a year.

Key features
01
Best-route swaps
Each quote compares the direct pool with a route through TFUEL and picks the better result. Price impact, minimum received and route are shown before you confirm.
02
Liquidity pools
Anyone can add liquidity to a pool and earn 0.3% of the trades it handles. The homepage shows a 30-day annualised fee APR per pool.
03
Permissionless listings
Anyone can create a pool for a TNT-20 token on the Pool page, and the token is then tradable. Token owners can add a description, links and a logo.
04
Card on-ramp
Pay by card through Wert to receive TFUEL, or buy selected tokens in one step through a ThetaSwap swap.
05
Returns simulator
A simulator replays ThetaSwap's price history for mixes of tokens, pools, staking and monthly buys, and compares them with Bitcoin or holding TFUEL.
06
Flexible wallet options
Connect MetaMask, WalletConnect wallets or the Theta Wallet, or sign in with an email through Magic.
07
Ecosystem tools
Links to OpenTheta's NFT marketplace, the sTFuel liquid staking product, a token minter and a faucet. Otie NFT holders pay half the routing fee.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Native DEX for the Theta Network with TFUEL, wTHETA and TDROP pools
- Clear fee structure: 0.3% per pool and no extra ThetaSwap fee
- Non-custodial: swaps settle from your own wallet
- Supports MetaMask, WalletConnect, Theta Wallet and email sign-in
- Shows route, price impact and minimum received before confirming
- Permissionless pool creation lets new TNT-20 tokens trade quickly
Watch out for
- Liquidity is small: about $138K to $141K TVL, so larger trades will move prices noticeably
- 24h volume of roughly $5K across 168 trades means thin activity
- No audits are listed on DefiLlama
- No governance or incentive token, and few liquidity incentives beyond the 0.3% swap fee
- Anyone can create a pool or token, so fake tokens appear and users must check contract addresses
- Card purchases go through a third party (Wert), whose fees and identity checks apply
ThetaSwap fees
Each pool charges a 0.3% fee on the trade, paid to that pool's liquidity providers. The site says ThetaSwap adds nothing on top, and you also pay a small network fee in TFUEL.
Card purchases go through Wert, and its fees and identity checks apply. The site mentions that Otie NFT holders pay half the routing fee, but the full fee structure behind that is not detailed publicly.
Is ThetaSwap safe?
ThetaSwap says swaps settle on-chain from your own wallet and it never holds your funds. DefiLlama lists no audits for the protocol. Smart contract risk therefore cannot be judged from public sources, and users should treat it as unaudited.
Permissionless token creation means fake versions of real tokens can appear. ThetaSwap marks unlisted tokens and asks for confirmation, but you should verify contract addresses yourself. Liquidity providers also face impermanent loss, and thin pools can mean high price impact. The project does not mention any hacks or incidents. This is not financial advice.
6 steps
How to get started with ThetaSwap
- 1
Install a wallet that supports the Theta Network, such as MetaMask, the Theta Wallet, or a WalletConnect wallet, or choose email sign-in through Magic.
- 2
Get some TFUEL for network fees, either from an exchange or by card through the Wert option on the site.
- 3
Open the Swap page and connect your wallet.
- 4
Pick the tokens, enter an amount, and review the route, price impact and minimum received.
- 5
Check the token's contract address, especially for unlisted tokens, then confirm the swap.
- 6
To earn fees, open the Pool page and add liquidity to a pool, and read the section on impermanent loss risk first.
Who ThetaSwap is for
ThetaSwap is for people already using the Theta Network who need to swap TNT-20 tokens or provide liquidity to TFUEL pairs. It is less suited to large traders who need deep liquidity, or to anyone who requires audited contracts.
