KyberSwap Elastic Review 2026: Pools After the 2023 Exploit

KyberSwap Elastic is a concentrated-liquidity AMM from the Kyber team, best known for the November 2023 exploit that drained its pools. Its TVL is now only about $120,000, so treat it as a legacy product.

Our verdict on KyberSwap Elastic

4.0/10

KyberSwap Elastic is a concentrated-liquidity AMM whose design was efficient for providers but whose reputation is defined by the November 2023 exploit. The team's post-mortem and compensation program are a point in its favour, and the wider KyberSwap aggregator remains a more current way to trade. With about $120,000 in TVL, new liquidity providers have little reason to choose Elastic over alternatives. It suits researchers and affected users following the incident, not newcomers looking for a trusted pool.

What is KyberSwap Elastic?

KyberSwap Elastic is the concentrated-liquidity pool product from the Kyber team, which also runs the KyberSwap aggregator and the KNC token. It lets liquidity providers set price ranges and earn fees from swaps, and was deployed on many EVM chains.

On 22 November 2023, Elastic suffered a security incident. The project later published a post-mortem and set up a Treasury Grant Program for affected users, which it describes as providing full coverage. That event is now the main thing anyone should know about the product.

Current TVL is about $120,000 across the listed chains, which suggests a small fraction of its former activity. The main KyberSwap site now centres on its aggregator, limit orders, cross-chain swaps and newer earn products such as vaults. The material reviewed does not state whether Elastic pools are formally wound down, so check the official docs for current status.

How KyberSwap Elastic works

KyberSwap Elastic is an automated market maker. Instead of an order book, traders swap against pools of tokens supplied by liquidity providers, and providers earn a share of the swap fees.

Elastic uses concentrated liquidity. A provider chooses a price range, and the capital works only inside it. This can earn more fees per dollar than a classic full-range pool, but the position stops earning when the price moves out of range and can suffer impermanent loss. One source describes Elastic as similar to Uniswap v3 with an amplification feature on top.

The positions are tracked on-chain through tick-based accounting, which makes the contract logic more complex. The November 2023 incident targeted this area of the protocol, which is why the post-mortem is essential reading for anyone considering the product.

6 features

Key features

01

Concentrated liquidity ranges

Liquidity providers choose a price range for their capital, in the style of Uniswap v3, so funds earn fees only while the price stays inside that range.

02

Amplified liquidity

Elastic adds an amplification mechanism to its pools, which one source says can raise capital efficiency if the price stays in range.

03

Selectable fee tiers

Support documentation covers choosing a fee tier for a pool, so providers can match fees to the pair's volatility.

04

Aggregator integration

The same team runs a swap aggregator that splits trades across many DEXs and liquidity sources, with Elastic pools as one possible source.

05

Multi-chain deployment

Contracts were deployed across Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Optimism, Fantom, Cronos and further networks.

06

Published post-mortem and user support

The project published a post-mortem and ran a Treasury Grant Program for users affected by the November 2023 exploit.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Concentrated liquidity with amplification was a capital-efficient design for liquidity providers
  • Non-custodial: users keep tokens in their own wallets
  • The team published a post-mortem and a compensation program for affected users
  • Audits by Omniscia, Spearbit and Hexens are listed on the platform homepage
  • Broad multi-chain deployment and integration with a large aggregator

Watch out for

  • Suffered a major exploit on 22 November 2023, which is the defining fact about the product
  • TVL is now roughly $120,000, a sliver of a working DEX liquidity base, so pools are likely thin
  • Concentrated liquidity brings impermanent loss and requires active range management
  • Fee tiers and any protocol fee split are not set out in the material reviewed here
  • Smart-contract risk is high for a design with tick-based accounting, as the exploit showed
  • Compensation relied on a treasury grant program with a registration process, not automatic reimbursement

KyberSwap Elastic fees

The material reviewed does not publish a single fee schedule for Elastic. Pools let the liquidity provider pick a fee tier, and the support section includes guidance on which tier to choose, so swap fees vary by pool.

On top of pool fees, users pay network gas on whichever chain they use, plus any slippage from thin liquidity. Pool-level fees and APRs are shown on the platform's pool pages before you commit.

Is KyberSwap Elastic safe?

Security is the weak point. The 22 November 2023 exploit hit Elastic directly, and the project's own documentation refers to it as a security incident. A post-mortem and a Treasury Grant Program followed, with the project describing coverage for affected users as 100%.

The homepage lists audits by Omniscia, Spearbit and Hexens, and a DeFi data tracker lists two audits. The exploit shows that audits do not remove contract risk. Wallets and funds stay in user custody, but pooled liquidity sits in smart contracts that can fail.

The project does not publish a regulatory licence in the material reviewed. Verify the product's current status in the official docs, and only commit funds you can afford to lose.

6 steps

How to get started with KyberSwap Elastic

  1. 1

Read the project's post-mortem and Treasury Grant Program notes to understand the 2023 incident and its current status.

  2. 2

Confirm on the official site and docs whether Elastic pools are still supported on your chain before depositing anything.

  3. 3

Use a self-custody wallet and connect it only to the official site address.

  4. 4

If you still want to provide liquidity, learn how price ranges and fee tiers work through the support guides.

  5. 5

Start with a small test amount you can afford to lose and check the pool's fee tier and range.

  6. 6

Monitor positions regularly, since concentrated ranges can go out of range and stop earning.

Who KyberSwap Elastic is for

This review suits readers researching DeFi incidents, existing liquidity providers checking on legacy positions, and people comparing concentrated-liquidity designs. It is a poor fit for beginners or anyone who wants deep liquidity and a clean security record.

KyberSwap Elastic FAQs

What is KyberSwap Elastic?

KyberSwap Elastic is a concentrated-liquidity automated market maker from the Kyber team. Liquidity providers pick a price range and earn trading fees, and the design adds an amplification feature meant to improve capital efficiency.

Was KyberSwap Elastic hacked?

On 22 November 2023, KyberSwap Elastic was hit by a security incident. The project published a post-mortem in early 2024 and set up a Treasury Grant Program for affected users, which it describes as offering 100% coverage.

Is KyberSwap Elastic still active?

The project's own documentation points to the Elastic incident, and DeFi data trackers show about $120,000 in TVL, down 3.9% over seven days. The material reviewed does not say the contracts were formally shut down, so check the official docs for current status before interacting.

Has KyberSwap Elastic been audited?

The platform lists audits by Omniscia, Spearbit and Hexens on its homepage, and a DeFi data tracker lists two audits for the protocol. The 2023 exploit shows audits do not remove smart-contract risk.

What is the KNC token?

KNC is the token tied to the Kyber ecosystem, and the homepage lists KyberDAO staking and voting for KNC. Elastic itself is a pool product rather than the token's only use.

Which chains does KyberSwap Elastic run on?

Elastic was deployed on Ethereum, Polygon, BNB Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Optimism, Fantom, Cronos and others, and data trackers list activity on Linea, Scroll and Base too. Remaining liquidity differs sharply by chain.
