Chainflip Lending Review 2026: Borrowing Against Native BTC

Chainflip Lending is a cross-chain lending market that lets users post native BTC, ETH, SOL or stablecoins on one chain and borrow on another without wrapped tokens or bridges. It is new and small, so the idea is more established than the market.

Our verdict on Chainflip Lending

7.0/10

Chainflip Lending suits crypto holders who want to borrow against native Bitcoin, ETH or SOL without wrapped tokens or bridges, and who are comfortable with DeFi liquidation mechanics. Its main strength is the cross-chain design built on a working native-swap network, with overcollateralised, oracle-priced loans and open on-chain visibility. The main caveat is maturity: the market is small, young and has little history, and lending fee details and audit specifics are not published on the homepage. Start small and check rates before borrowing.

What is Chainflip Lending?

Chainflip Lending is the lending arm of Chainflip, a cross-chain decentralised exchange known for native swaps between Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana and other chains. The lending market lets users deposit collateral on one chain and borrow on another, using real BTC, ETH, SOL, USDC and USDT rather than wrapped tokens.

It is still small. DefiLlama shows about $4.7M in TVL, up roughly 2.8% over seven days, and lists it from late March 2026. A project update reported more than $1.13M in active loans. Third-party coverage from August 2025 described the plan to introduce native BTC lending.

The pitch is simple: lend and borrow without bridges or synthetic assets. That removes one common source of risk, bridge exploits, but it shifts trust to Chainflip's validator network, its vault system and its oracle setup.

How Chainflip Lending works

Chainflip is a cross-chain decentralised exchange. A distributed Proof-of-Stake network of validators, which the site puts at 150, uses MPC (multi-party computation) to control vaults that hold native assets on each connected chain. This is how it swaps assets such as Bitcoin and Solana without wrapped tokens.

The lending market is built on that same infrastructure. A user deposits collateral on one chain, and the protocol lets them borrow another supported asset on a different chain. Loans are overcollateralised: the collateral is worth more than the debt. Prices come from Chainlink oracles, with fallback feeds on Ethereum and Arbitrum.

If collateral value falls too far, the position can be liquidated to repay the debt. Lenders and liquidity providers earn yield from borrowing interest and related fees. The homepage also describes Boost, which it says offers up to 10% yield on Bitcoin, though the terms are not detailed there.

Key features

01

Native asset lending

Lend or borrow real BTC, ETH, SOL, USDC and USDT. The project says there are no wrapped or synthetic tokens.

02

Cross-chain borrowing

Deposit collateral on one chain and borrow on another. Settlement runs through Chainflip's cross-chain layer.

03

Oracle-priced loans

Loans are overcollateralised and priced with Chainlink oracles, with fallback feeds on Ethereum and Arbitrum.

04

Transparent positions

Positions, rates and liquidations are described as visible and auditable on-chain, including through an explorer.

05

Open API access

Developers can use an open API stack to integrate lending flows, monitoring or liquidation data.

06

Earn and Boost yield

The Liquidity Provision app lets users earn trading fees, lending yield and Boost rewards. The homepage advertises up to 10% yield on Bitcoin with Boost, without further terms.

07

Built on a native DEX

Lending is built on Chainflip's existing DEX infrastructure, which handles native swaps between Bitcoin, Solana, Ethereum and other chains.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Uses native BTC, ETH, SOL and stablecoins, with no wrapped or synthetic tokens and no bridges according to the project.
  • Lets users deposit collateral on one chain and borrow on another.
  • Loans are overcollateralised and priced with Chainlink oracles, with fallback feeds on Ethereum and Arbitrum.
  • Positions, rates and liquidations are viewable on a public explorer, and an open API is available to developers.
  • Builds on Chainflip's DEX, which the site says has a record of zero lost funds since launch, though that is the project's own claim.
  • DefiLlama lists two audits for the protocol.

Watch out for

  • The lending market is young, with a DefiLlama listing dating from March 2026 and TVL of only about $4.7M, so it has little track record.
  • Lending fee levels and interest-rate parameters are not published on the homepage, so users must check the app or explorer.
  • It depends on Chainlink oracles, with fallback feeds on Ethereum and Arbitrum, and on the Chainflip validator network. A failure in either could affect loans and liquidations.
  • Liquidation is a real risk. Overcollateralised loans can still be liquidated if collateral prices fall sharply.
  • Audit details are thin: the listing shows two audits, but the homepage only says the protocol is audited by the best in web3 and names no auditors.
  • Loans and positions on a non-EVM-style native chain may need unfamiliar tooling compared with mainstream Ethereum lending apps.

Chainflip Lending fees

Chainflip's homepage promises no hidden fees and pricing that scales with trade size for swaps, but it does not publish a lending fee schedule. One third-party report says origination, interest and liquidation fees all feed protocol revenue.

Current borrow and supply rates are shown in the Chainflip apps and on the network explorer, where individual loans display their own borrow rates. Users should also account for network fees on the chains they deposit from and borrow to.

Is Chainflip Lending safe?

Chainflip says its network is a permissionless, Proof-of-Stake MPC system with no centralised control. The homepage claims zero lost funds since launch and that the protocol is audited, and DefiLlama lists two audits. The auditors, scope and reports are not named on the homepage, so readers should look for them in the project's documentation. The zero-lost-funds figure is the project's own claim.

Main risks are smart-contract and protocol bugs in a recently launched lending market, oracle dependence, liquidation risk for borrowers, and reliance on the validator set that secures the vaults. Overcollateralisation reduces but does not remove these risks. The project does not publish a regulatory status. Check the rules for DeFi lending in your jurisdiction and only use funds you can afford to lose.

6 steps

How to get started with Chainflip Lending

  1. 1

Decide which native asset you will post as collateral, such as BTC, ETH or SOL, and which asset you want to borrow.

  2. 2

Open the Chainflip lending or Earn, Borrow, Lend app from the official site and read the current rates and collateral requirements.

  3. 3

Deposit collateral on its native chain. The project says no wallet linking or wrapping is needed.

  4. 4

Borrow the asset you want on the destination chain, keeping a safe buffer above the liquidation threshold.

  5. 5

Track your loan and collateral ratio on the app or the network explorer, and repay or add collateral if prices move against you.

  6. 6

Start with a small amount until you understand how rates and liquidations behave.

Who Chainflip Lending is for

Chainflip Lending is for Bitcoin holders who want liquidity without selling or wrapping their coins, for users who want to borrow on a different chain from their collateral, and for liquidity providers seeking native BTC yield. It is also relevant to developers who want to integrate lending data through the API. It is not suited to beginners who are unfamiliar with liquidation risk, or to anyone who needs a long track record.

Chainflip Lending FAQs

What is Chainflip Lending?

It is a lending market built on the Chainflip network. Users deposit collateral on one chain and borrow assets on another, using native BTC, ETH, SOL, USDC and USDT rather than wrapped or synthetic versions.

How are loans secured?

Chainflip says every loan is overcollateralised and priced using Chainlink oracles, with fallback feeds on Ethereum and Arbitrum. Positions, rates and liquidations are described as visible on-chain.

Does it use bridges or wrapped tokens?

The project says it uses native assets managed by its vault system, with no wrapped tokens and no bridges. Cross-chain settlement is handled by the Chainflip network, a Proof-of-Stake MPC system run by its validator set.

What does it cost to borrow?

The homepage does not publish a fee table for lending. One third-party report says origination, interest and liquidation fees all contribute to protocol revenue. Current rates are shown in the app and on the network explorer.

Can my collateral be liquidated?

Yes. If the value of your collateral falls too far relative to your debt, your position can be liquidated. Users should watch their collateral ratio and avoid borrowing close to the limit.

Is there a FLIP token?

DefiLlama lists a token called FLIP, and the homepage tracks FLIP burnt. You do not need to hold it to read the protocol's data, but check the app for what is required to use lending.
