Axial Review 2026: Small Stableswap DEX on Avalanche
Axial is a stableswap DEX on Avalanche for swapping value-pegged assets, launched in 2021 out of the Snowball DAO. Its TVL is now only about $9,000, so treat it as a very small, unaudited venue.

Our verdict on Axial
4.5/10Axial suits experienced DeFi users who want to study a Stableswap-style DEX on Avalanche and accept small-protocol risk. Its strength is a clear, focused design for value-pegged assets from the Snowball DAO family. The main caveat is size: TVL of roughly $9,000 and no listed audits mean thin liquidity and limited assurance. Anyone considering it should use small amounts and check current activity first.

What is Axial?
Axial is a decentralized exchange on Avalanche focused on value-pegged assets such as stablecoins. It describes itself as the center for liquidity on Avalanche, where bridged and native assets can be swapped and routed. It launched in November 2021 and is one of several projects that came out of the Snowball DAO.
The protocol uses the Stableswap mechanism and decentralized governance, with an AXIAL token. DefiLlama categorizes it as a DEX and has tracked it since November 2021.
The current numbers are small. DefiLlama shows TVL of about $8,969, up 8.4% over seven days, and lists no audits. Its homepage available offers only a short tagline, so details on current development, team and fees could not be confirmed from public sources.
How Axial works
Axial is an automated market maker. Instead of an order book, users trade against pools of tokens funded by liquidity providers. Each swap changes the pool balance, and the price adjusts through a formula.
Its pools use the Stableswap mechanism, a curve design for assets meant to trade near the same value, such as stablecoins or different wrapped versions of one asset. The curve keeps prices flat and slippage low while the pool stays balanced, and gets more expensive as it becomes lopsided.
Liquidity providers deposit assets and receive a claim on the pool, earning a share of trading fees. The risk is that if one asset loses its peg, the pool can end up holding mostly the weakened asset.
5 features
Key features
01
Stableswap pools
Axial implements the Stableswap mechanism, which is designed for assets expected to trade near the same price, such as stablecoins.
02
Liquidity provision
Users can deposit assets into pools and provide the liquidity that traders swap against.
03
Bridged and native assets
The project describes itself as a home for bridged and native value-pegged assets, routing them across the Avalanche ecosystem.
04
Decentralized governance
The project describes decentralized governance, with a listed AXIAL token tied to the protocol.
05
Snowball DAO origins
Axial originated from the Snowball DAO, one of several projects from that group.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Focused design: Stableswap pools suit assets that trade near the same price, which keeps slippage low when liquidity is deep
- Clear niche on Avalanche as a venue for value-pegged assets
- Long track record: tracked on DefiLlama since November 2021
- Has a governance token, AXIAL, for decentralized governance
- Simple scope that is easy to understand
Watch out for
- TVL is only about $8,969 per DefiLlama, so liquidity is very thin and large swaps could see heavy slippage
- DefiLlama lists no audits for the project
- Runs on a single chain, Avalanche, so there is no multichain reach
- Homepage and public reporting give little detail on current activity, team or roadmap
- Small stableswap pools carry depeg and smart-contract risk, and the TVL suggests little ongoing usage
Axial fees
Axial's swap fees, liquidity provider fee split and any governance-token fee distribution are not published publicly available here. Users would see the fee for a given pool in the swap interface or in the project's documentation before confirming a transaction.
As on any Avalanche DEX, users also pay network gas fees in AVAX. Those go to the network, not to Axial.
Is Axial safe?
DefiLlama lists no audits for Axial, and the project does not mention a bug bounty or insurance. Users deposit funds into smart contracts and keep their own wallet custody, so the main risks are contract bugs, a stablecoin or bridged asset losing its peg, and low-liquidity price swings.
The very small TVL suggests limited usage, which can also mean slower maintenance or less scrutiny. Public sources include no incident history and no regulatory information. Verify the official site and contract addresses yourself before connecting a wallet.
6 steps
How to get started with Axial
- 1
Check that using a DeFi exchange is permitted where you live.
- 2
Set up an Avalanche-compatible wallet and fund it with AVAX for gas.
- 3
Open the official Axial site and confirm the address matches the one listed on DefiLlama or the project's verified social account.
- 4
Connect the wallet and review the pool or swap details, including fees and slippage, before approving anything.
- 5
Start with a small test swap before committing larger amounts.
- 6
If providing liquidity, understand that pool assets can lose their peg and review the contracts and documentation first.
Who Axial is for
Axial is for experienced Avalanche DeFi users who understand stableswap pools, depeg risk and the trade-offs of small, unaudited protocols. It is not a good fit for beginners or anyone who needs deep liquidity for large swaps.
Axial FAQs
What is Axial?
Axial is a decentralized exchange on Avalanche built around the Stableswap mechanism. It lets users swap value-pegged assets and provide liquidity to pools of those assets. It launched in November 2021 and came out of the Snowball DAO.
Which blockchain does Axial use?
Axial runs on Avalanche only, according to DefiLlama. The project does not mention other chains.
Does Axial have a token?
Yes, DefiLlama lists a token called AXIAL. The project does not give its supply, utility details or distribution, so check the project's own documentation before relying on it.
Is Axial audited?
DefiLlama lists no audits for Axial. Combined with very low TVL, that means users should only commit what they can afford to lose and review the contracts and docs themselves.
How much liquidity does Axial have?
DefiLlama shows TVL of about $8,969, up 8.4% over seven days. That is a very small figure, so the pools hold little liquidity and activity appears low.
