ActiveAura Finance Review 2026: Boosting Balancer Yield
Aura Finance is a yield and governance-boosting layer built on Balancer, pooling BAL and veBAL activity to raise rewards for liquidity providers. It is a focused product for Balancer users, with returns that depend on Balancer and the AURA token.

Good
Our verdict on Aura
6.5/10Aura Finance suits users already active in Balancer who want boosted LP rewards or exposure to veBAL governance without locking BAL on their own. Its strength is a focused design on nine chains, with two audits listed. The main caveat is dependence on Balancer and on volatile reward tokens, plus layered smart-contract risk. Newcomers should learn Balancer basics first, check current fees and lock terms in the docs, and size positions carefully.

What is Aura?
Aura Finance is a protocol built on top of Balancer. According to DefiLlama, it aims to provide maximum incentives to Balancer liquidity providers and BAL stakers into veBAL through social aggregation of BAL deposits and its own AURA token. The homepage tagline reads: boosting DeFi yield potential and governance power.
DefiLlama lists Aura under Yield, with a TVL of about 9.5 million USD across Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Gnosis, Polygon zkEVM, Avalanche and Fraxtal. It has been listed since July 2022 and shows two audits. A post from Aura's account marks the launch of auraBAL deposits, Aura locking and airdrop claims.
Note that other products share the Aura name, including finance-tracking apps. This review covers only the Balancer-based DeFi protocol.
How Aura works
Balancer rewards users who lock BAL into veBAL, which gives voting power over where BAL emissions go and a boost on rewards. Locking directly is costly in flexibility. Aura pools many users' BAL deposits so that the combined voting power is managed collectively.
Liquidity providers deposit their Balancer pool tokens into Aura and receive boosted rewards in BAL and AURA. BAL holders can deposit into the system and receive auraBAL, a liquid claim on the pooled position. AURA holders can lock the token to take part in governance and vote on incentive direction.
This makes Aura an aggregation layer: it does not run its own exchange, but steers and amplifies Balancer's incentive system.
6 features
Key features
01
Social BAL aggregation
Aura pools BAL deposits so users can share in veBAL boosts without locking BAL individually, per the DefiLlama description.
02
Boosted LP rewards
Balancer liquidity providers can deposit into Aura to receive boosted rewards on top of standard Balancer incentives.
03
auraBAL deposits
BAL holders can stake into veBAL through Aura's pooled approach and receive auraBAL, which was part of the 2022 launch.
04
AURA locking
AURA can be locked, which was one of the features launched with the protocol in June 2022 according to a post from Aura's account.
05
Multi-chain deployment
Aura is listed on nine chains including Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum and Optimism, so users can access Balancer pools beyond mainnet.
06
Governance influence
The homepage describes boosting governance power, meaning holders can steer Balancer gauge votes.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Clear, narrow purpose: boosting Balancer LP and veBAL rewards
- Live on nine chains, including major Ethereum layer 2s
- Two audits listed on DefiLlama
- Operating since 2022 per the DefiLlama listing date
- Gives holders a way into veBAL governance without locking BAL individually
Watch out for
- Depends entirely on Balancer, so any Balancer smart-contract or governance problem flows through to Aura
- Returns come partly from the AURA and BAL tokens, whose prices can fall
- Layered contracts (Balancer, veBAL, Aura locking) add smart-contract risk and complexity
- Locking AURA to vote has a lock-up period, which reduces flexibility (general mechanism of vote-locked tokens)
- TVL of about 9.5 million USD is modest, and public sources show a small 7-day decline
- Homepage is minimal, so fee and parameter details must be checked on the live app
Aura fees
The project does not publish a fee schedule for Aura. Protocols of this type typically take a share of reward tokens as a platform fee, but the specific rate is not given here.
Users would see current fees and reward splits in the Aura app and official documentation before depositing. Gas costs on the chosen network and Balancer pool swap fees also apply.
Is Aura safe?
DefiLlama lists two audits for Aura, but the project does not name the auditors or detail results. Aura is non-custodial in the usual DeFi sense, with users interacting through their own wallets, but deposits sit in smart contracts that depend on Balancer's contracts as well.
Risks include smart-contract bugs, Balancer protocol issues, impermanent loss in liquidity pools, reward-token price drops, and governance or lock-up risk. The project does not mention hacks or incidents. Beware of look-alike sites and unrelated products called Aura, and verify the official address before connecting a wallet.
6 steps
How to get started with Aura
- 1
Read the official docs to understand Balancer, veBAL and how Aura sits on top of them.
- 2
Choose a network and pick a Balancer pool or decide to deposit BAL for auraBAL.
- 3
Connect a self-custody wallet to the official Aura site, checking the address carefully.
- 4
Provide liquidity on Balancer first if needed, then stake the LP token in Aura.
- 5
Review the fee, lock-up and reward details shown in the app before confirming any transaction.
- 6
Return periodically to claim rewards and monitor pool and token risk.
Who Aura is for
Aura is for intermediate DeFi users who already provide liquidity on Balancer or hold BAL and want boosted rewards and governance influence. It is less suited to beginners or anyone who wants simple, low-risk, fixed returns.
Aura FAQs
What is Aura Finance?
Aura Finance is a protocol built on top of Balancer. It aggregates BAL deposits and gives Balancer liquidity providers and BAL stakers extra incentives through its own AURA token.
Which blockchains does Aura support?
DefiLlama lists Aura on Ethereum, Base, Arbitrum, Optimism, Polygon, Gnosis, Polygon zkEVM, Avalanche and Fraxtal. Which pools are available on each chain is shown in the app.
What is the AURA token used for?
Public sources name AURA as the protocol token and describe it as part of the incentive structure for Balancer liquidity providers and BAL stakers. The exact tokenomics and lock terms are not public, so check the official documentation.
Has Aura Finance been audited?
DefiLlama shows two audits listed for Aura. The project does not name the auditors or the findings, and an audit does not remove smart-contract risk.
Is Aura Finance risk-free?
Not necessarily. Rewards are paid in tokens whose prices move, Balancer pools carry impermanent loss, and the protocol adds contract risk on top of Balancer. Only use funds you can afford to lose.
Does Aura charge fees?
The homepage tagline is about boosting DeFi yield potential and governance power. The project does not give a fee schedule, so check the app and docs for current fees.
