Our verdict on 40 Acres
7.0/1040 Acres suits holders of veNFTs on Aero, Hydrex, Pharaoh or Blackhole who want USDC liquidity without selling, paying recurring interest, or facing liquidation. Its main strength is a clear, rewards-funded repayment model with audits and a built-in simulator. The main caveat is narrow scope and dependence on a few DEX ecosystems, whose reward rates drive borrowing power and repayment speed. It is also a young protocol, so size positions cautiously and read the audits first.

What is 40 Acres?
40 Acres is a DeFi lending platform and community DAO built around self-repaying loans. Users borrow USDC against yield-bearing assets, and the loan is paid down by the rewards those assets earn. The homepage says there is no recurring interest and no liquidation.
Today the platform supports veNFTs from several DEX ecosystems: Aero and Hydrex on Base, Pharaoh and Blackhole on Avalanche, and a Velodrome market on Optimism that is closed to new loans. The site lists yield-bearing BTC, yield-bearing ETH, real-world assets and stablecoin yield as coming next.
DefiLlama lists it under Lending on Avalanche, Base and Optimism, with about $2.4M TVL and a listing date of April 2025. The homepage shows a much larger TVL of $39.0M, so the two sources differ and readers should check live figures. The project has no token listed on DefiLlama.
How 40 Acres works
A veNFT represents governance tokens locked in a DEX protocol, often for years. It earns weekly voting rewards from trading fees and bribes. 40 Acres lets owners borrow against that future income instead of selling or waiting for the lock to end.
You deposit the veNFT to open a credit line. The line is sized from the locked amount, the weekly rewards rate and each protocol's multiplier. You then borrow USDC. Each week the rewards the veNFT earns are collected and used to pay down the loan, with a share going to lenders and the protocol.
Lenders supply USDC into vaults that fund the loans. They earn a part of the weekly rewards. Since repayment comes from rewards rather than from price-based collateral ratios, the project says no liquidation mechanism exists.

Key features
01
Self-repaying loans
Loans repay from the weekly rewards the deposited asset earns, so the borrower makes no manual payments.
02
Non-liquidatable design
The project states loans cannot be forcibly closed by anyone, which removes the usual price-based liquidation risk.
03
Rewards-based credit line
The credit line is sized from locked amount, weekly rewards rate and each protocol's epoch multiplier, not only market value.
04
Borrowing simulator
A simulator on the site shows borrowing capacity, the rewards share, and an estimated repayment time before opening a loan.
05
USDC lender vaults
Lenders supply USDC to vaults and earn a share of the rewards that repay loans.
06
Multi-chain support
Live on Base and Avalanche, with a Velodrome market on Optimism that is closed to new loans.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Loans repay from rewards, so borrowers make no manual payments and pay no recurring interest.
- The project states loans are non-liquidatable and cannot be forcibly closed.
- Credit lines are based on actual weekly rewards, and a simulator shows terms before borrowing.
- The homepage states six audits by Sherlock, and DefiLlama lists two audits.
- Lenders can earn a share of rewards in USDC, with up to 22.6% APY shown on the Aero vault.
- Fee structure is documented on the homepage, including the 0.8% origination fee.
Watch out for
- Only works with a narrow set of veNFT assets from a few DEX protocols; BTC, ETH, RWA and stablecoin support are listed only as coming next.
- Borrowing power depends on weekly rewards and protocol multipliers, so a fall in rewards could lengthen repayment time.
- Cost is a share of rewards, plus a 0.8% origination fee, which can be harder to compare with a plain interest rate.
- Loans are in USDC only, and Velodrome on Optimism is closed to new loans.
- TVL on DefiLlama is far lower than the figure on the homepage, and DefiLlama shows a 19.9% drop over seven days.
- The project has been listed only since April 2025, so its track record is short.
40 Acres fees
There is no recurring interest. The homepage lists a one-time 0.8% origination fee when you open or top up a credit line.
The ongoing cost is a share of the weekly rewards your asset earns, which goes to lenders and the protocol. On Pharaoh and Blackhole this is a fixed 75% to repayment, 20% to lenders and 5% to the protocol. On Aero and Hydrex the share depends on loan-to-value, and the simulator shows the exact figure. The example on the homepage shows a 21.4% fee share for 50,000 sAERO. Network gas fees are not covered publicly.
Is 40 Acres safe?
The homepage says 40 Acres has been audited six times by Sherlock, and DefiLlama lists two audits. Audits lower but do not remove smart-contract risk. The project does not name a team or describe any past incidents, so users should review the documentation and audit reports themselves.
The no-liquidation design removes price-driven forced closure, but other risks remain. These include smart-contract bugs, changes in the underlying DEX protocols' reward rates or governance, and loans taking longer to repay if rewards fall. Deposited veNFTs are held by the protocol, so users rely on its contracts. The project is a DeFi protocol and no regulatory status is stated.
6 steps
How to get started with 40 Acres
- 1
Check that you hold a supported asset, such as sAERO or veHYDX on Base, or vePHAR or veBLACK on Avalanche.
- 2
Open the simulator on the site and enter your locked amount to see borrowing capacity, the rewards share and the estimated repayment time.
- 3
Read the documentation and the audit reports before committing any assets.
- 4
Connect a compatible wallet and launch the app on the correct chain.
- 5
Deposit your veNFT to open a credit line and borrow USDC, keeping in mind the 0.8% origination fee.
- 6
Monitor your weekly rewards and loan balance, and consider borrowing less if you want more of the rewards to go toward repayment.
Who 40 Acres is for
This is for experienced DeFi users who already hold locked veNFTs and want liquidity without selling. It also suits USDC lenders comfortable with rewards-based yield tied to a few DEX protocols. It is not aimed at beginners or at anyone who needs broad collateral support today.
40 Acres FAQs
What is 40 Acres?
40 Acres is a DeFi lending platform where users borrow USDC against yield-bearing assets, currently veNFTs from DEX protocols. The loan is repaid automatically from the weekly rewards those assets earn.
Can you be liquidated on 40 Acres?
According to the project, loans are non-liquidatable and cannot be forcibly closed by anyone, including the protocol. Because the asset keeps generating rewards that pay the loan down, there is no liquidation mechanism. Risk still exists in the form of smart-contract issues and falling rewards.
What are the fees on 40 Acres?
There is no recurring interest. The homepage lists a one-time 0.8% origination fee when opening or topping up a credit line. After that, a share of weekly rewards goes to lenders and the protocol: a fixed 25% on Pharaoh and Blackhole, and a share that rises with loan-to-value on Aero and Hydrex.
Which assets and chains does 40 Acres support?
The homepage lists Aero sAERO and Hydrex veHYDX on Base, and Pharaoh vePHAR and Blackhole veBLACK on Avalanche. Velodrome veVELO on Optimism is closed to new loans, though existing loans keep repaying. Yield-bearing BTC and ETH, real-world assets and stablecoin yield are listed as coming next.
How do lenders earn on 40 Acres?
Lenders supply USDC to vaults and earn a share of the weekly rewards that repay borrowers' loans. The homepage shows an APY of up to 22.6% on the Aero USDC vault, described as live. Yields change over time and are not guaranteed.
Has 40 Acres been audited?
The homepage says the protocol has been audited six times by Sherlock, and DefiLlama lists two audits. Audits reduce risk but do not remove it, so users should read the reports and only commit what they can afford to lose.
