Immutable X is a layer 2 scaling network on Ethereum designed mainly for NFTs and blockchain games. It runs on zero-knowledge rollup technology based on StarkWare's StarkEx: transactions are processed off-chain, bundled together, and then verified on Ethereum with a cryptographic proof. It is not a general-purpose EVM chain, so it is built around minting, trading and transferring NFTs rather than arbitrary smart contracts. Immutable's newer network, Immutable zkEVM, is a separate EVM-compatible chain.
