Mixin is a peer-to-peer network of distributed ledgers designed to move digital assets between blockchains quickly. Its core ledger is called the Kernel, and the network is built around cross-chain asset transfers rather than general-purpose smart contracts. It is not an EVM chain, so apps are built against Mixin's own tools. Mixin Messenger, a wallet and chat app based on the Signal protocol, is the main way people reach the network and was created to show developers how to build dApps on it.

The native token is XIN. Mixin has long described transfers inside the network as free and fast, while moving assets in or out from other chains still involves those chains' own fees. The network has added support for Ethereum layer 2 networks such as Optimism and Arbitrum. At the time of writing, DeFi TVL on Mixin is about $58.3M. That is modest next to the large smart contract chains, and the 2023 Kernel attack, reported at about $200M, is worth knowing about before you use the network.

The dApp ecosystem is small and centered on staking and early DeFi. ExinPool stakes users' coins to the nodes of chains such as Ethereum, Solana and Polkadot, and holds about $9.0M of TVL at the time of writing. Filet tokenizes Filecoin mining power so FIL holders can stake across Filecoin and BNB Chain. The Pando suite, 4Swap (an automated market maker), Pando Leaf (a CDP minting the pUSD stablecoin) and Pando Rings (lending), is in sunset with maintenance-only access, so check each app's status before relying on it.

Mixin FAQs

What is Mixin Network?

Mixin is a network of distributed ledgers built for moving digital assets between chains, with a core ledger called the Kernel. It also has a wallet and messenger app, Mixin Messenger, which acts as a front end for many dApps on the network.

Is Mixin an EVM chain?

No. Mixin runs its own ledger design rather than the Ethereum Virtual Machine, so Solidity apps are not deployed on it directly. It does support deposits and withdrawals for assets from other chains, including Ethereum layer 2 networks such as Optimism and Arbitrum.

What is the XIN token used for?

XIN is the native token of Mixin. It is tied to the network itself, and the network describes in-network transfers as free and fast. Fees on other chains still apply when you deposit or withdraw assets.

Which dApps are on Mixin?

Our listing includes 7 dApps. The best-scored ones are ExinPool and Filet, both staking apps, followed by 4Swap, Pando Leaf and Pando Rings. At the time of writing, Mixin's DeFi TVL is about $58.3M, and ExinPool accounts for about $9.0M of it.

Are the Pando dApps still active?

Several are being wound down. 4Swap, Pando Leaf and Pando Rings are listed as in sunset with maintenance-only access. Check each project's current status before depositing, and expect that new features are unlikely.

Has Mixin had security problems?

Any chain that holds large pooled assets carries risk. In September 2023 the Mixin Kernel was reported to have suffered a cyberattack of roughly $200M, and deposits and withdrawals were paused. Read about the incident, check current project status, and only use funds you can afford to lose.

What is the largest dApp on Mixin by TVL?

ExinPool is the largest dApp on Mixin by total value locked, with $8.39M across all the chains it supports. TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

Which dApp on Mixin has the highest DappsAtlas score?

ExinPool has the highest score at 6.2/10, ahead of Filet (5.2) and 4Swap (4.0). Scores weigh security, ease of use, fees and features, and are based only on facts we could verify.

How many dApps are on Mixin?

DappsAtlas tracks 7 dApps on Mixin. Of these, 7 have a full review and 1 report value locked, $8.39M in total, counting value on every chain they support.

What are the most common types of dApps on Mixin?

DEXes (3), Staking (2) and CDPs (1) are the largest categories on Mixin, by number of projects.

What is the average score for dApps on Mixin?
