What Safe is
Safe is a project built around smart contract accounts on Ethereum and compatible networks. Its best-known product, Safe{Wallet}, is a multi-signature wallet. That is an account that needs approval from several keys before a transaction goes out, which removes the single point of failure of one private key. Teams, DAOs and individuals use it to hold treasuries and high-value assets.
Beyond the wallet, Safe{Core} is a set of account abstraction tools. Developers can use it to build apps on Safe smart accounts with features such as gasless transactions, recovery options and easier logins. The project's own description says it secures more than $100B in assets and that over 200 projects, including Gnosis Pay and Worldcoin, build on its account standard across more than 15 networks.
The SAFE token is separate from the wallet software. You do not need it to create or use a Safe account. It is the governance token tied to the wider Safe ecosystem. The usage figures above are the project's own claims, and some of them date from 2023.
What the SAFE token is used for
The clearest documented role of SAFE is governance. Holders can take part in SafeDAO, where proposals and votes cover things like protocol upgrades, feature development and how ecosystem resources are used. Holders can usually delegate their voting power to another address, which lets people who do not follow every proposal still have a say.
Some exchange and aggregator pages describe SAFE as a multi-purpose utility token that could be used to buy Safe tools. Others describe it only as an ERC-20 governance token that manages parts of the ecosystem's infrastructure. Given those differences, treat governance as the confirmed use and check the official Safe documentation and governance forum for anything beyond it.
One point is worth stating plainly. Holding SAFE does not give you ownership of the funds stored in Safe accounts, and it does not entitle you to a share of any revenue by default. It is a voting and coordination tool. Whether it gains other uses depends on decisions the community makes over time.
Supply and tokenomics
SAFE has a fixed maximum supply of 1 billion tokens, and the total supply equals that maximum. As of 2026-11-05, about 790.75 million tokens were circulating, roughly 79% of the total. The remainder is not yet in circulation, which is why the fully diluted valuation, about $83.9M, sits above the market cap of about $66.4M.
The price at that date was about $0.084. The token ranked around 363 by market cap, with 24-hour trading volume of about $1.2M. These figures move constantly, so use them only as a snapshot.
public data here does not break down how the supply was split between the DAO treasury, contributors, investors and users, or what the unlocking schedule looks like. The project has published allocation and vesting details in its official governance documentation, and that is the place to confirm them. If you want to understand future dilution, look at the remaining locked portion and its schedule rather than relying on the circulating figure alone.
Chains and how it is held and traded
SAFE is issued as a token on Ethereum and on Gnosis Chain, which some data sources still label xDai. It is not the native coin of any blockchain, so you need the network's own coin, such as ETH on Ethereum, to pay transaction fees when moving it.
In general terms, people hold SAFE in a self-custody wallet that supports ERC-20 tokens, or leave it on an exchange that lists it. Trading happens on centralized exchanges and on decentralized exchanges on the networks where the token exists. Liquidity is modest compared with large tokens. At the time of writing, daily volume was around $1.2M against a market cap of about $66.4M, so larger orders can move the price.
If you bridge or transfer SAFE between Ethereum and Gnosis Chain, check that you are using the correct contract address from the official Safe documentation. Lookalike tokens with the same name or symbol exist for many projects, and sending funds to the wrong network or contract can be hard or impossible to reverse.
History and notable events
Safe's wallet technology predates the token. The project's description says the contracts have been deployed since 2018, originally under the Gnosis name, and that no critical security incidents have occurred since then. It also reports that over 8 million Safe accounts had been created by April 2023. These are the project's statements rather than independently confirmed figures.
The token came later, through a community-oriented launch. Market data shows the all-time high of about $3.56 on 2024-04-22, which fits with trading opening around that time. From there the price fell sharply. The all-time low of about $0.075 was recorded on 2026-06-24, and as of 2026-11-05 the price was down roughly 57% over one year and about 15% over seven days.
The product side has continued to develop. Recent Safe{Wallet} updates include warnings against address poisoning, a scam where an attacker sends a lookalike address to trick users into copying it. The token's price history and the product's reliability have moved quite independently of each other.
Risks to understand
Price risk is the most visible one. The token is far below its 2024 peak, and a price at that level does not guarantee recovery or further decline. Nothing here is a prediction or a recommendation to buy or sell.
Supply risk matters because roughly a fifth of the maximum supply was not circulating as of 2026-11-05. When locked tokens are released, the market has to absorb them, and this can weigh on the price.
Governance risk is also real. Voting power can be concentrated in a few large holders, and low participation can let a small group decide outcomes. Proposals can change how the ecosystem works.
There is also a gap between the product and the token. Safe{Wallet} can be widely used without that translating into demand for SAFE, because the token is not required to use the wallet.
Finally, there is smart contract and scam risk. Even well-audited contracts can contain flaws, and fake tokens, phishing sites and address-poisoning attempts target holders of popular assets. Liquidity is limited, so selling a large position may be harder than the quoted price suggests.
How to store SAFE safely
Because SAFE is a standard ERC-20 token, any wallet that supports Ethereum tokens can hold it. For anything more than a small amount, a hardware wallet keeps the private key offline and is a sensible baseline. Write the recovery phrase on paper or metal, store it somewhere private, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including people claiming to be support staff.
For larger holdings or shared treasuries, a Safe multi-signature account is a natural fit. You can require two or more separate keys to approve a transfer, so one lost or compromised device does not empty the account. Keep the signing keys on different devices and in different places.
Before every transaction, check the recipient address character by character rather than copying it from your history, given address poisoning attacks. Confirm the token contract on the correct network, and review what any signing request will do. Approvals you no longer need can be revoked. Keep a small amount of ETH for fees so you can always move your tokens.
By the numbers
Safe in numbers
Safe (SAFE) is ranked #367 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $63.8M and a price of $0.0807 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $80.7M, so roughly 79% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 6.4% over 7 days, down 27.3% over 30 days, down 60.2% over the past year. It trades about 98% below its all-time high of $3.56, set on Apr 22, 2024.
About 790.75M SAFE are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (79% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $2.15M, or 3.4% of its market cap: moderate turnover.
SAFE has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, xDai. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

SAFE FAQs
What is the SAFE token used for?
SAFE is the governance token of the Safe ecosystem. Holders can vote on proposals about upgrades and development through SafeDAO. It is not required to use Safe{Wallet} or to create a Safe account.
Do I need SAFE tokens to use Safe{Wallet}?
No. Safe{Wallet} is the multisig and smart account wallet, and SAFE is a separate governance token. You can use the wallet without owning any SAFE, and holding the token does not give you ownership of funds stored in Safe accounts.
What is the total supply of SAFE?
The maximum and total supply is 1 billion SAFE. As of 2026-11-05, about 790.75 million were circulating, which is roughly 79% of the total. The rest is not yet in circulation.
Which blockchains is SAFE on?
SAFE is issued on Ethereum and on Gnosis Chain, which some sources list as xDai. It is not the native coin of either network, so you need ETH or the Gnosis Chain gas token to pay fees when moving it.
What are SAFE's all-time high and low?
Market data shows an all-time high of about $3.56 on 2024-04-22 and an all-time low of about $0.075 on 2026-06-24. As of 2026-11-05 the price was about $0.084, down roughly 57% over one year. This is historical information, not a forecast.
Is SAFE safe to hold?
The token itself is a standard ERC-20, and Safe's contracts have been audited many times according to the project. Risk still comes from price swings, locked supply, scams and phishing, and governance concentration. Keep your keys offline and verify addresses and contracts before sending anything.
What is the market cap of Safe?
As of Nov 6, 2026, Safe had a market cap of about $63.8M, ranking #367 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of SAFE?
Safe's all-time high is $3.56, reached on Apr 22, 2024. Its all-time low is $0.0753 (Jun 24, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of SAFE?
As of Nov 6, 2026, about 790.75M SAFE were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 1B.
