What Pyth Network and the PYTH token are
Pyth Network is a decentralised oracle network. An oracle passes information from outside a blockchain, such as asset prices, to smart contracts that cannot look it up themselves. Pyth focuses on real-time financial market data for crypto, equities, foreign exchange and commodities, and delivers it to decentralised applications on many blockchains.
What sets Pyth apart is its first-party model. Instead of relying on anonymous node operators to scrape public price sites, the network draws on data published by the institutions that produce it, such as trading firms and exchanges. The project describes this as low-latency, high-fidelity data suited to systems where a wrong price can cause real losses, like lending markets and derivatives venues.
PYTH is the network's native token. It is separate from the data feeds themselves: apps read prices from Pyth without needing to hold the token. The token instead ties into governance and the incentive system that rewards data quality. On our site the issuing project, Pyth Network, is categorised under infrastructure, and the token sits in our DeFi, oracle and infrastructure groups.
What PYTH is used for
Publicly, PYTH has two main roles: governance and staking linked to data quality.
Governance. Holders can stake tokens to take part in votes on the Pyth DAO, which decides on protocol upgrades and network parameters.
Oracle Integrity Staking (OIS). This mechanism lets holders stake PYTH to the data publishers who supply prices. The aim is to put economic weight behind accurate data. Stakers can earn rewards, but the design also includes penalties if a publisher's data is faulty, so staking carries risk as well as yield.
A recent news item in public reporting suggests payments for data services may be routed in a way that buys PYTH on the open market or moves PYTH into a reserve. We could not verify the details here, so check official Pyth announcements before relying on that description. Outside these functions, PYTH is also simply traded as a market asset, and that activity is separate from how the network operates.
Supply and tokenomics
PYTH has a fixed maximum supply of 10 billion tokens, and total supply equals that maximum. As of 2026-11-05, about 7.87 billion were circulating, or roughly 79% of the total. The remainder is still locked or scheduled to be released under the project's vesting arrangements, which means more tokens may enter circulation over time.
This gap shows up in the valuation figures. At the time of writing, the price was about $0.065, giving a market capitalisation near $515.3 million and a fully diluted valuation near $654.3 million. The token ranked around 102nd by market cap, with roughly $20.6 million traded over 24 hours.
We do not list a detailed allocation breakdown here because it is not in our data. Readers who want to understand how tokens are split between contributors, publishers, the community and other groups should consult Pyth's official documentation and tokenomics posts. Unlock schedules matter because newly released tokens can add selling pressure, though we make no forecast about price.
Chains and how it is held and traded
PYTH is issued on Solana and Manta, and Solana is the home of the original token. It is not the native coin of any blockchain, so it is not used to pay network fees on any chain.
The oracle itself reaches far more chains than the token does. Pyth's price data is published on its own pipeline and then pulled onto other blockchains when an app requests it, which is why many ecosystems can use Pyth feeds without issuing the token locally.
In general terms, PYTH can be held in a compatible Solana wallet and traded on centralised exchanges that list it, as well as on decentralised exchanges on Solana. Staking and DAO voting are done through Pyth's own interfaces connected to a wallet. Always confirm which network a deposit address belongs to, since sending tokens to the wrong chain can result in a permanent loss.
History and notable events
Our data does not give a launch date for the token, so we skip it here. The market record is clearer. PYTH reached an all-time high of about $1.20 on 2024-03-15, and it hit an all-time low of about $0.0295 on 2026-06-06. As of 2026-11-05 it had fallen roughly 5.7% over seven days and about 26.7% over one year.
The token is associated with the Solana ecosystem and appears in portfolios of several well-known crypto investment firms, according to public category listings. Public reporting from October 2026 mention a sharp price jump tied to news about how data payments would be linked to PYTH purchases. We treat that as a reported item rather than something we have confirmed, and past price moves say nothing about the future.
Risks to understand
Price volatility. The token has fallen far from its high and has had large swings, so holders can lose a lot of value quickly.
Unlock risk. With about a fifth of supply not yet circulating, future releases could change the supply picture.
Competition. Pyth competes with other oracle providers such as Chainlink and others, and developers can switch if they prefer another service.
Oracle failure. Wrong or delayed data can harm apps that depend on it, which can damage trust in the network.
Staking and governance risk. OIS staking can involve penalties, and governance can be influenced by large holders.
Utility questions. Apps can use Pyth data without holding PYTH, so the token's value depends on how well governance, staking and any fee-linked mechanisms hold up in practice.

How to store PYTH safely
Keep PYTH in a wallet whose recovery phrase you control. For larger amounts, a hardware wallet paired with a Solana-compatible wallet app adds protection, since the signing keys never leave the device. Write the recovery phrase down offline and never share it or type it into a website.
Before staking or voting, check that you are on Pyth's official interface by typing the address yourself or using a bookmark you trust, because fake staking sites and airdrop scams are common. Review every transaction your wallet asks you to approve, and be wary of unexpected token approvals.
If you keep tokens on an exchange, you rely on that company's security and cannot take part in on-chain staking or governance directly. Start with a small test transfer when moving funds, and confirm that the network you select matches the destination address.
By the numbers
