What UMA is

UMA is the token of the Universal Market Access project, which describes itself as a decentralized financial contracts platform. The project builds infrastructure for what it calls priceless financial contracts. These contracts aim to rely less on oracles, the services that bring outside price data onto a blockchain, which the project says reduces some security and scalability problems in decentralized finance. The first products built on this approach are priceless synthetic tokens, which are ERC-20 tokens meant to track many kinds of assets while needing little on-chain price data. Public reporting describes UMA's oracle design, the Optimistic Oracle, where token holders act as the human voters on final outcomes. The project's own description states that the token is not an investment opportunity, and this page does not treat it as one.

What the token is used for

According to the project description, the token has two roles. The first is governance. Holders vote on which types of contracts can access the system, which asset types are supported, key system parameters, and upgrades. The second is price requests. The priceless design reduces how often prices must be fetched on-chain but does not remove the need entirely. When a contract interaction is disputed, UMA holders settle the price request through the Data Verification Mechanism, usually called the DVM. Public reporting describes the token as serving mainly as a governance token, with voting used for protocol upgrades and for resolving disputed data assertions. Participating in these processes is part of how the system is designed to work, and it requires understanding the rules of each vote or dispute before acting.

Supply and market data

As of 2026-11-05, the data showed a price of about 0.34 US dollars and a market capitalization of about 31.9 million US dollars, placing UMA around rank 634 by market cap. The 24-hour trading volume was about 1.6 million US dollars, and the fully diluted valuation was about 45.4 million US dollars. The circulating supply was about 92.7 million UMA, out of a total supply of about 131.8 million. No maximum supply was listed. Over the prior year the price fell by roughly 62 percent, while the change over seven days was small. The all-time high was about 41.56 US dollars on 2021-02-04, and the all-time low was about 0.30 US dollars on 2020-04-29. These figures change constantly, so readers should check live data before relying on them. Nothing here is a price forecast or a recommendation to buy or sell.

Chains

UMA is issued on Ethereum and Avalanche. It is not the native token of either chain, so its value and use depend on the UMA protocol rather than on a base network. Ethereum is the chain where the token is most often discussed in the protocol's documentation and public reporting. The token follows the ERC-20 standard, which is common for tokens on Ethereum and on Avalanche's Ethereum-compatible environment. Because the token exists on more than one network, readers should confirm which network and which token contract they are looking at. A balance or transfer on one network does not automatically appear on another.

Risks and storage

The main risks are technical and economic. Smart contracts can contain bugs or be exploited, and the priceless contract design is complex, so mistakes in configuration or code can be costly. Governance is run by token holders, so decisions can be influenced by whoever holds a large share of votes, and proposals can change how the system works. Dispute outcomes depend on the DVM process, which can be slow or contested. The token's price has fallen sharply from its 2021 peak and can move quickly. To store UMA, use a wallet that supports ERC-20 tokens on the network where you hold them, and keep your recovery phrase offline and private. Be cautious of fake tokens, copycat sites, and messages asking for your seed phrase or approvals, and always verify contract addresses against the project's official documentation.

By the numbers

UMA in numbers

UMA (UMA) is ranked #640 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $30.6M and a price of $0.3303 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $43.5M, so roughly 70% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was up 1.8% over 7 days, down 20.2% over 30 days, down 64.6% over the past year. It trades about 99% below its all-time high of $41.56, set on Feb 4, 2021.

About 92.75M UMA are in circulation, from a total supply of 131.78M. No hard maximum supply is listed.

24-hour trading volume was about $2.12M, or 6.9% of its market cap: moderate turnover.

UMA has token contracts on 2 chains we track, including Ethereum, Avalanche. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

UMA is linked to Uma, which we cover in our Dor rankings. See our Uma page for how the protocol works and how we score it.

UMA FAQs

What is UMA used for?

UMA is used for two main things within the UMA protocol. Holders vote on governance decisions such as supported asset types, system parameters, and upgrades. Holders also take part in settling disputed price requests through the Data Verification Mechanism. The project says the token is not an investment opportunity.

Is UMA a governance token?

Public reporting describes UMA as serving primarily as a governance token. The project description also gives it a role in resolving disputed contract outcomes. Its exact voting and dispute rules are set out in the project's documentation.

How many UMA tokens exist?

As of 2026-11-05, the data showed a circulating supply of about 92.7 million UMA and a total supply of about 131.8 million. No maximum supply was listed. These numbers change over time, so check live data for current figures.

Which blockchains is UMA on?

UMA is issued on Ethereum and Avalanche. It is not the native token of either chain. Before sending or receiving tokens, confirm which network and which token contract you are using.

What was UMA's all-time high?

The all-time high was about 41.56 US dollars on 2021-02-04, according to the data used for this page. The price as of 2026-11-05 was far below that level. Past prices do not predict future moves.

Is UMA a good investment?

This page does not give investment advice, and the project itself says the token is not an investment opportunity. Anyone considering a purchase should research the risks, consider their own finances, and consult a qualified adviser if needed.

What is the market cap of UMA?
