What Bio Protocol is
Bio Protocol is a curation and liquidity protocol for Decentralized Science, usually shortened to DeSci. Its stated aim is to let communities of patients, scientists and biotech professionals pool money to fund, build and own tokenized biotech projects and the intellectual property (IP) that comes out of them.
The team behind it is also associated with Molecule, a tokenization platform for early-stage biomedicine, and VitaDAO, a large decentralized community focused on longevity research. Bio Protocol builds on that background and tries to give those ideas a shared funding and liquidity layer.
In practice, the protocol works as a network of science communities, sometimes called BioDAOs, plus tools for launching and supporting research projects. Public descriptions also point to an AI research component, referred to as BioAgents, which are software agents meant to help with research tasks. BIO is the token that connects these pieces. It is not the native coin of its own blockchain; it is a token issued on existing networks.
What the BIO token is used for
Public sources describe BIO as both a utility token and a governance token for the network. The main uses mentioned are:
- Governance: holders can take part in decisions about the protocol and in research funding rounds.
- Participation and incentives: the token is used to reward researchers, contributors and backers.
- Liquidity: BIO is meant to act as a base asset that pairs with the tokens of individual science projects.
- Access and staking: sources say users can stake BIO to run BioAgents locally or in the cloud and earn yield, and that holding BIO gives access to the network of scientific communities and IP.
The project's own description frames BIO as a way to get broad exposure to the DeSci economy rather than to a single research programme. How much of this is live, and how much is still planned, can change, so readers should check the project's current documentation before assuming a specific feature exists.
Supply and tokenomics
BIO has a fixed maximum supply of 3.32 billion tokens, and the total supply equals that maximum. As of 2026-11-05, roughly 2.15 billion BIO were circulating, which is about two thirds of the total.
At the same date, the price was about $0.021, giving a market capitalization of around $44.7 million and a fully diluted valuation of about $69.2 million. The gap between those two figures reflects tokens that exist or are scheduled but are not yet in circulation. Trading volume over 24 hours was around $7.6 million, and the token ranked near 480 by market cap.
public data here does not include a breakdown of allocations to the team, investors, community or treasury, nor a full unlock schedule. Anyone evaluating the token should look for those details in the project's official tokenomics documents, because future unlocks can add to circulating supply and affect the market.
Chains and how it is traded
BIO is issued on several networks: Ethereum, Solana, Base and BNB Chain. It is categorized as part of each of those ecosystems, and as a Base-native token. It also appears in lists of Binance Launchpool projects, which indicates it was distributed through that programme at some point.
Because BIO exists on multiple chains, the same name can refer to different contract versions. Moving between chains normally requires a bridge or a supported exchange withdrawal, and each version trades in its own pools. Check the contract address on the official project channels before buying or transferring, since lookalike tokens are common.
General ways people hold and trade it include centralized exchanges that list it, and decentralized exchanges on the chains above using a compatible wallet. Liquidity and spreads vary by venue and chain.
History and price context
The BIO price peaked at about $0.889 on 2025-01-03. Its recorded low was roughly $0.0158 on 2026-03-29. As of 2026-11-05, the price was about 4.9% lower over seven days and down about 72% over one year, so it trades far below its peak.
The launch date is not given in the data here. The token's early profile was tied to the DeSci theme and to the Molecule and VitaDAO background of its team, and its Launchpool listing helped it reach a wide audience. Beyond that, this page does not claim specific partnerships, funding rounds or milestones, since they are not confirmed.
A deep drawdown like this is common among smaller-cap tokens linked to a narrow theme, but it also means the market has repriced expectations sharply. It says nothing certain about the future.
Risks
BIO carries the usual risks of a small-cap crypto token, plus some specific to its niche:
- Volatility and liquidity: a market cap in the tens of millions can move sharply on modest trading volume.
- Dilution: about a third of the total supply was not yet circulating, so future releases could add selling pressure.
- Early-stage science: biotech research is slow, expensive and often fails. Tokenized funding does not change that, and tokens tied to research projects may not reflect real scientific progress.
- Regulatory uncertainty: tokenized IP and community-funded research touch securities, intellectual property and biomedical rules that differ by country.
- Smart contract and bridge risk: multi-chain tokens depend on the security of each deployment and any bridges used.
- Execution risk: AI and DeSci features described publicly may not develop as planned.

How to store BIO safely
BIO is a standard token, so it can be held in any wallet that supports the chain it lives on. Self-custody wallets such as MetaMask or Rabby suit the Ethereum, Base and BNB Chain versions, and Phantom suits the Solana version. A hardware wallet adds protection for larger amounts, since it keeps your keys offline.
Some practical habits help:
- Write down your recovery phrase offline and never share it or type it into a website.
- Confirm the token contract address from official project channels before swapping.
- Send a small test transaction first when moving between wallets or chains.
- Be wary of unsolicited airdrops, direct messages and approval requests, and revoke token approvals you no longer need.
- If you stake or vote with BIO, read what a transaction does before signing it.
Leaving tokens on an exchange is convenient for trading, but you rely on the exchange to keep them safe.
By the numbers
Bio Protocol in numbers
Bio Protocol (BIO) is ranked #482 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $43.7M and a price of $0.0203 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $67.6M, so roughly 65% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 1.5% over 7 days, down 30.9% over 30 days, down 73.1% over the past year. It trades about 98% below its all-time high of $0.8890, set on Jan 3, 2025.
About 2.15B BIO are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 3.32B (65% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $8.76M, or 20% of its market cap: high turnover.
BIO has token contracts on 4 chains we track, including Ethereum, Solana, Base, BNB Chain. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

BIO FAQs
What is the BIO token used for?
BIO is the utility and governance token of Bio Protocol, a DeSci platform. It is used for voting, rewarding contributors, providing liquidity and, according to public sources, staking to run BioAgents. Specific features should be confirmed in the project's documentation.
What is the total supply of BIO?
The maximum and total supply is 3.32 billion BIO. As of 2026-11-05, about 2.15 billion were circulating, so roughly a third of the supply was not yet in circulation.
Which blockchains does BIO run on?
BIO is issued on Ethereum, Solana, Base and BNB Chain. It does not run its own blockchain. Each chain has its own token version, so verify the contract address before trading or transferring.
Why is BIO far below its all-time high?
Its all-time high was about $0.889 on 2025-01-03, and as of 2026-11-05 it was down roughly 72% over one year. The drop reflects a broad repricing of a small-cap, niche-theme token, along with supply that may still be unlocking. Nobody can say where the price goes next.
Is Bio Protocol the same as VitaDAO?
Bio Protocol's team is associated with Molecule and VitaDAO, which are separate DeSci projects. Bio Protocol builds on that experience, but it is its own protocol with its own token, so the BIO token is not the same as a VitaDAO token.
Is BIO a good investment?
This page cannot give buy or sell advice. BIO is a volatile small-cap token with dilution, regulatory and execution risks, so anyone considering it should do their own research and only risk money they can afford to lose.
What is the market cap of Bio Protocol?
