ActiveSilo V1 Review 2026: Risk-Isolated Lending Markets
Silo V1 is the original version of Silo Finance, a non-custodial lending protocol built on isolated markets so that risk in one asset does not spread to others. It is a small, older deployment across five networks, and the app now points users to V3.

Our verdict on Silo V1
6.0/10Silo V1 suits DeFi users who understand overcollateralised lending and want markets where one asset's failure does not spread to the rest. Its main strength is the isolated design, backed by two listed audits and a history since 2022. The caveat is size and relevance: TVL is under $1 million and the app now highlights V3, so check which markets are active and read each market's terms before depositing.

What is Silo V1?
Silo V1 is the first generation of Silo Finance, a non-custodial lending protocol described as creating permissionless and risk-isolated lending markets. It has been listed since August 2022 and has a native token, SILO.
The protocol runs on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base and Sonic. Total value locked is about $728,000, which is small by lending-protocol standards, and it slipped roughly 6.9% over the past week.
The app homepage shows Explore, Earn, Borrow and Portfolio sections plus a V3 option, which indicates the project has moved on to a newer version. Anyone looking at V1 should treat it as a legacy deployment and confirm which markets are still active.
How Silo V1 works
Silo is a lending protocol where users deposit crypto to earn interest and others borrow against collateral they supply. Everything runs through smart contracts, so no company holds your funds on your behalf.
The defining idea is isolation. Instead of one large shared pool where every asset backs every loan, each market is separate. A problem in one market, such as a collateral token losing value faster than liquidations can handle, stays inside that market rather than hitting lenders elsewhere.
Borrowers must post collateral worth more than the loan. If the collateral value drops too far, the position can be liquidated to repay lenders. Interest rates adjust with market conditions, and the details differ by market.
6 features
Key features
01
Risk-isolated markets
Each market is separated from the rest, so bad debt in one asset pair is contained instead of spreading across the whole protocol.
02
Permissionless listing
Markets are described as permissionless, meaning assets can be listed without a central gatekeeper approving each one.
03
Non-custodial design
Users keep control of their funds through their own wallet, and the protocol does not take custody in the way an exchange does.
04
Earn and borrow interface
The app is organised around Explore, Earn, Borrow and Portfolio sections for finding markets, lending, borrowing and tracking positions.
05
Multi-chain deployment
Silo V1 is listed on Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base and Sonic, giving users a choice of networks and fee levels.
06
Listed audits
Two audits are listed for the protocol, which is a baseline signal for contract review, though not a guarantee of safety.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Isolated markets limit contagion from a single failing asset
- Non-custodial, so users retain control of funds through their own wallet
- Available across five networks, including Ethereum and several layer-2s
- Two audits are listed for the protocol
- Operating since 2022, which gives it a longer track record than many newer protocols
Watch out for
- TVL is small, at roughly $728,000, so liquidity in individual markets may be thin
- TVL fell about 6.9% over the last seven days
- The app now shows a V3 interface, so V1 is an earlier version and may get less attention
- Borrowers face liquidation if collateral value falls, as in any overcollateralised lending protocol
- Fees, interest-rate models and audit details are not spelled out on the homepage
Silo V1 fees
Silo does not publish a fee schedule on its homepage. As in most lending protocols, borrowers pay a variable interest rate, lenders earn a share of it, and you also pay the network gas fee on whichever chain you use.
Current borrow and supply rates are shown for each market in the Explore, Earn and Borrow sections of the app. Check those figures and any protocol fee before opening a position.
Is Silo V1 safe?
Silo is non-custodial, so the main risks are in the smart contracts and the markets rather than in a company holding deposits. Two audits are listed, but the homepage does not name the auditors or publish reports, so readers should look up the details themselves. Audits reduce risk but do not remove it.
Other risks include oracle errors, liquidation shortfalls in thin markets, and exposure to volatile or low-liquidity collateral, which is possible in permissionless markets. The team, licensing and any past incidents are not described. Separate unrelated products also use the name Silo, so make sure you are on the correct app address.
6 steps
How to get started with Silo V1
- 1
Install a self-custody wallet that supports the network you want to use, such as Ethereum, Arbitrum, Optimism, Base or Sonic.
- 2
Fund the wallet with the asset you plan to supply plus a small amount of the native token for gas.
- 3
Open the Silo app and browse the Explore section to compare available markets and their rates.
- 4
Read the details of the specific market, including its collateral asset and liquidation terms, before depositing.
- 5
To earn, supply an asset in the Earn section; to borrow, deposit collateral first and then borrow in the Borrow section.
- 6
Keep an eye on your loan health in the Portfolio section and repay or add collateral if prices move against you.
Who Silo V1 is for
Silo V1 is for experienced DeFi users who are comfortable managing collateral, tracking liquidation levels and reading market-specific risk. It is less suited to beginners or to anyone who needs deep liquidity for large positions.
Silo V1 FAQs
What is Silo V1?
Silo V1 is an earlier version of Silo Finance, a non-custodial lending protocol. It offers permissionless lending markets where the risk of each market is kept separate from the others.
Which chains does Silo V1 support?
DefiLlama lists Silo on Arbitrum, Ethereum, Optimism, Base and Sonic. Which markets exist on each network is shown inside the app.
What does risk-isolated lending mean?
Risk-isolated means each market stands alone. If a collateral asset in one market collapses or produces bad debt, depositors in other markets are not drawn into it. The tradeoff is that liquidity is split across many markets.
Does Silo have a token?
The protocol has a token, SILO. The project does not describe its exact utility in detail, so check the project's own documentation and governance pages before relying on it.
Is Silo V1 safe?
No lending protocol is risk-free. Two audits are listed for the protocol, but smart-contract bugs, oracle failures, liquidations and thin liquidity remain possible. TVL is modest, so only commit funds you can afford to lose.
Is there a newer version of Silo?
The app navigation now shows a V3 option alongside Explore, Earn, Borrow and Portfolio. That suggests newer markets live under V3, but the project should be checked directly for the status of V1 markets.
