ActiveSilo Finance Review 2026: Isolated Lending Markets Explained
Silo is a non-custodial, permissionless lending protocol that keeps each token's risk in its own isolated market. Its main appeal is containing bad debt; the main caveat is thinner liquidity and ordinary smart-contract risk.

Our verdict on Silo
6.6/10Silo suits DeFi users who want to lend or borrow long-tail tokens while keeping risk contained to a single market. Its main strength is the isolated-silo design, backed by immutable contracts and permissionless listing. The main caveat is that isolation does not remove smart-contract or oracle risk, liquidity in smaller silos can be thin, and the project does not publish audit or fee details in the sources reviewed. Treat it as a tool for experienced users and start small.

What is Silo?
Silo, often called Silo Finance, is a non-custodial lending protocol that lets users borrow one crypto asset against another. Its defining idea is isolation: each token gets its own market, so trouble in one market is designed not to spread through the rest of the protocol.
Early write-ups describe it as a second-generation lending protocol that differs from Aave or Compound style pooled designs. Markets are permissionless, meaning a silo can be created for any token, with proposals decided by token holders. Launch coverage placed it on Ethereum and Arbitrum, and token addresses cited by third-party sites also show SILO on Sonic.
The protocol has its own token, SILO. One source says SiloDAO held 1.73M SILO for an incentive program that began on March 13, 2023 and ran for 60 days. A price tracker lists SILO with a small market cap and very low daily trading volume, which suggests limited token liquidity. The project does not publish team, audit or fee details in the sources reviewed.
How Silo works
Silo splits lending into many separate markets. Each market, called a silo, covers one token and a shared bridge asset. When you deposit into a silo, your funds are exposed only to the risk of that silo's token, not to every asset in the protocol.
To borrow, you post a silo's token as collateral and borrow the bridge asset from that silo. Because every silo trades the same bridge asset, value can move between markets, so a borrower can effectively use one token to obtain another. Early descriptions named ETH and the XAI stablecoin as bridge assets, while a later price-tracker summary refers to a single bridge asset, so the setup may differ by version or chain.
Collateral factors start from shared defaults and can be changed per silo. If a borrower's collateral falls too far in value compared with their loan, the position can be liquidated to protect lenders. New markets are meant to be added by proposal and a vote of token holders.

Key features
01
Risk-isolated markets
Each token gets its own market, so depositors there are not exposed to the risks of other tokens in the protocol.
02
Bridge asset design
Silos connect only through a shared bridge asset, which lets any collateral token borrow another while keeping risk contained.
03
Permissionless listing
A silo can be created for any token. Early write-ups say individuals and project teams can propose markets, which token holders then vote on.
04
Non-custodial lending
Users keep control of their funds through smart contracts rather than depositing with a custodian.
05
Adjustable collateral factors
Silos share default collateral factors, which can be adjusted at the level of an individual silo.
06
Immutable contracts
One early review states the original contracts are not upgradable, so deployed code cannot be changed by the team.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Risk isolation limits how far a bad market can hurt depositors elsewhere
- Permissionless markets allow lending and borrowing on long-tail tokens
- Non-custodial design keeps funds in smart contracts, not with a company
- Early coverage describes immutable contracts, removing upgrade-key risk
- Available on several chains, including Ethereum, Arbitrum and Sonic
Watch out for
- Smart-contract risk remains, and the project does not publish audit details in the sources reviewed
- Isolated markets can have thin liquidity, and the SILO token trades at a small market cap with low volume
- Immutable contracts cannot be patched if a bug is found
- Permissionless market creation means some markets cover obscure, volatile tokens with weak price feeds
- Borrowers can be liquidated if collateral value drops, and rates and collateral factors vary by market
Silo fees
Silo does not publish a fee schedule in the sources reviewed. Borrow and deposit rates are set by market conditions in each silo and are displayed in the app before you transact.
Expect network gas fees on whichever chain you use, which differ widely between Ethereum, Arbitrum and Sonic. Whether the protocol takes a share of borrower interest is not stated here, so check the documentation for the market you plan to use.
Is Silo safe?
Silo is non-custodial, so there is no company holding your deposits, but you take on smart-contract risk. Early coverage says the original contracts are immutable, which removes the chance that a team changes the code, though it also means flaws cannot be patched. Audit reports and any bug bounty are not detailed in the sources reviewed, so check the project's documentation before depositing.
Isolation protects depositors from other markets, not from their own. A silo for a volatile or thinly traded token can suffer oracle problems or sharp price drops, leading to bad debt in that market. Regulatory status is not stated. Only deposit what you can afford to lose, and confirm that DeFi lending is permitted where you live.
7 steps
How to get started with Silo
- 1
Confirm that using DeFi lending is legal and suitable for you where you live.
- 2
Set up a self-custody wallet that supports Ethereum, Arbitrum or Sonic, and fund it with the asset you want to use plus a little for gas.
- 3
Open the official Silo app by finding the link from the project's verified channels, not from an ad or search result.
- 4
Pick a market and review its collateral token, supply and borrow rates, and available liquidity.
- 5
Start with a small deposit to learn the flow, then decide whether to borrow.
- 6
If you borrow, keep a wide safety margin above the liquidation threshold and monitor your position.
- 7
Withdraw or repay when you are done, and check the contract addresses on a block explorer before approving anything.
Who Silo is for
Silo is for DeFi users comfortable with self-custody wallets, liquidation mechanics and reading market parameters. It fits lenders who want exposure to one token's risk rather than a shared pool, and borrowers who want to use less common collateral. Beginners should learn how collateral and liquidation work first.
Silo FAQs
What is Silo Finance?
Silo is a non-custodial lending protocol where users can borrow one crypto asset against another. Each token has its own isolated market, called a silo, so a problem in one market is not meant to spread to the others.
How does risk isolation work in Silo?
Each silo holds one token plus a shared bridge asset. Depositors in a silo are exposed only to that silo's risk. Borrowers post the silo's token as collateral and borrow the bridge asset, which is how value moves between silos.
Which blockchains does Silo run on?
Token addresses cited by third-party sites show SILO on Ethereum, Arbitrum and Sonic. Early write-ups described the protocol launching on Ethereum and Arbitrum. Check the current app for the markets live on each chain.
Is Silo Finance safe?
Early write-ups say the original contracts are immutable, meaning they cannot be changed after deployment. That removes the risk of a team altering the code. It also means bugs cannot be patched in place. Audit details are not covered in the sources reviewed, so look for published audit reports.
What is the SILO token for?
Silo's own token is SILO, which is tied to governance. In the original design, token holders vote on whether newly proposed markets go live. One source also says SiloDAO ran a 60-day incentive program from March 13, 2023 for lenders and borrowers.
What are the fees on Silo?
Interest rates are set within each market and vary with supply and demand. The project does not publish a fixed fee schedule in the sources reviewed. Rates, any protocol fee on interest, and network gas costs are shown in the app before you confirm a transaction.
