Good
Our verdict on Renzo
7.0/10Renzo suits ETH holders who already understand restaking and want a liquid token and vault options across several chains. Its main strengths are a clear liquid restaking focus, a sizeable TVL and public documentation and code. The main caveats are the stacked risks of restaking, possible depegs of the liquid token, and unpublished fee details. Newcomers should read the docs and start with a small amount.

What is Renzo?
Renzo is a liquid restaking protocol that launched on DefiLlama's listings in December 2023 and was built on EigenLayer. Its own description now covers more than that: an institutional-grade onchain platform for staking, restaking and capital deployment, split into Reserve Vaults, a Staking Suite and an Enterprise Suite.
DefiLlama shows about $108.8 million in total value locked, up 2.2% over seven days. The protocol is listed on 13 chains, including Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Solana, Base, Optimism, BNB Chain, Sei and Monad. Its token is REZ.
Its homepage available is minimal, so most product detail here comes from DefiLlama's description and search snippets. That is enough to identify what Renzo is, but not to judge strategy performance, yields or fee levels.
How Renzo works
In ordinary Ethereum staking, ETH is locked to help secure the network. Restaking, pioneered by EigenLayer, lets that staked ETH also secure other services in exchange for extra rewards. Renzo sits on top of this. Users deposit ETH or liquid staking tokens, and Renzo handles the restaking and the choice of operators on their behalf.
In return, depositors receive a liquid token that represents their position, so they can keep using it in DeFi instead of leaving it idle. The newer Reserve Vaults and Enterprise Suite extend the idea to managed strategies and larger capital deployments, though the project does not give strategy details.
The extra yield comes with extra risk. If an operator is penalised (slashed) or a smart contract fails, depositors can lose funds, and the liquid token can trade away from its underlying value.
6 features
Key features
01
Liquid restaking
Users deposit ETH or supported liquid staking tokens and receive a token that represents their restaked position while staying tradable.
02
Reserve Vaults
DefiLlama lists Reserve Vaults as one of Renzo's modular products, aimed at accessing yield strategies through vault structures.
03
Staking Suite
A suite of staking products forms one of the three modules in Renzo's own description of the platform.
04
Enterprise Suite
The project positions an Enterprise Suite for institutional capital deployment, reflecting its stated focus on institutional-grade infrastructure.
05
Multi-chain presence
DefiLlama lists 13 chains, including Ethereum, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism, Solana and Sei, which gives users options on where to hold positions.
06
Public code and docs
Renzo's documentation links to the smart-contract source code on GitHub and gives integrators a guide for calculating its TVL.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Clear focus on liquid restaking, with a documented link to EigenLayer.
- About $109 million in TVL suggests meaningful use, though it is only one data point.
- Listed on 13 chains, which gives flexibility for where to hold positions.
- Two audits are listed on DefiLlama and the smart-contract source code is publicly documented.
- Modular product range covers retail staking and vault strategies as well as enterprise use.
- Documentation includes guidance for third-party integrators on calculating TVL.
Watch out for
- Fees are not stated in the data reviewed, so the cost of staking, restaking or vault use is unclear until you open the app.
- Liquid restaking adds smart-contract risk and slashing exposure on top of ordinary Ethereum staking.
- Liquid restaking tokens can trade below their underlying value on secondary markets when many users exit at once.
- Several of the newer products (Reserve Vaults, Enterprise Suite) have limited public detail, so their strategies are hard to assess.
- Only two audits are listed on DefiLlama, and the project does not say how recent or how broad they are.
- Rewards and points programmes mentioned in public reporting may change, and their terms are not covered here.
Renzo fees
Renzo's fees are not stated publicly reviewed. Liquid restaking and vault products commonly take a fee, often as a share of rewards or yield, but the specific rates for Renzo's products are not published here.
Before depositing, check the app and official documentation for current fee terms. Also allow for network gas costs on the chain you use, and for any swap costs if you exit through a secondary market instead of redeeming directly.
Is Renzo safe?
DefiLlama lists two audits for Renzo, and the project's documentation points to public smart-contract source code on GitHub. The project does not say who the auditors were, when the audits took place or what they found, so treat the audit count as a starting point only.
Users face smart-contract risk, operator slashing risk through restaking, and market risk if the liquid token trades below its underlying value. Renzo's ezETH token was reported to trade below its underlying value on secondary markets in April 2024 during heavy selling, which shows the kind of exit risk involved. Public sources reviewed do not otherwise list incidents, regulatory status or custody details. Check the official docs and recent news before depositing.
7 steps
How to get started with Renzo
- 1
Read the official Renzo documentation to understand which products you want: liquid restaking, a vault or the staking tools.
- 2
Check that online DeFi services are permitted where you live and understand the risks, including slashing and token price risk.
- 3
Install a compatible wallet and fund it with ETH or a supported liquid staking token on a supported chain, plus a little extra for gas.
- 4
Open the official Renzo app, using the address from the project's own channels, and connect your wallet.
- 5
Choose the asset and amount to deposit, and review the fee, rate and withdrawal terms shown before confirming.
- 6
Approve and confirm the transaction in your wallet, then check that the position token or vault share appears.
- 7
Monitor your position, and review how redemption works before you need to exit.
Who Renzo is for
Renzo is for ETH holders and DeFi users who are comfortable with smart-contract and slashing risk and want restaking yield while keeping a liquid position. Its Enterprise Suite also targets institutions looking for managed onchain capital deployment. It is a poor fit for anyone who needs guaranteed principal or simple, fixed fees.
Renzo FAQs
What is Renzo Protocol?
Renzo is an onchain platform for staking, restaking and capital deployment. DefiLlama lists it as Liquid Restaking and describes three modular products: Reserve Vaults, a Staking Suite and an Enterprise Suite. Public reporting also describe it as a strategy manager built on EigenLayer.
Which blockchains does Renzo support?
DefiLlama lists Renzo on Ethereum, Linea, Arbitrum, Solana, Zircuit, Mode, Base, Optimism, Fraxtal, BNB Chain, Monad, Sei and Blast. Not every product is necessarily available on every chain, and the project does not break this down.
Does Renzo have a token?
REZ is the token DefiLlama lists for Renzo. Public sources reviewed do not describe its supply, utility or governance rights, so check the official documentation before relying on it.
How do I restake with Renzo?
Public reporting describes a flow of connecting a wallet, choosing a supported asset such as ETH or a liquid staking token, and depositing it in the restake section of the app. Check the app for the assets currently accepted, as these can change.
Is Renzo safe?
Public sources list two audits on DefiLlama and point to public source code in the project's documentation. That is a positive sign, but it is not a guarantee. Any DeFi protocol carries smart-contract, slashing and market risks, and you should only use funds you can afford to lose.
What fees does Renzo charge?
The data reviewed does not publish fee figures. Users should check the app and official documentation for current fees before depositing.
