Liquity V2 Review 2026: Immutable Borrowing With User-Set Rates

Liquity V2 is an immutable, over-collateralized borrowing protocol on Ethereum where users set their own interest rate and mint the BOLD stablecoin against ETH or staked ETH. Its main strengths are user-controlled rates and no admin keys, while the trade-offs are frontend choice and liquidation risk.

Good

Our verdict on Liquity V2

7.8/10

Liquity V2 suits experienced DeFi users who want to borrow against ETH or staked ETH without admin keys and want to control their own interest rate. Its main strength is an immutable, on-chain design with user-set rates and a BOLD stablecoin backed only by crypto collateral. The main caveats are that there is no official frontend, so you must vet a community interface, and that high LTV and leverage carry real liquidation and redemption risk. Beginners should learn those mechanics first.

What is Liquity V2?

Liquity V2 is a decentralized, immutable borrowing protocol on Ethereum. Users lock ETH, wstETH or rETH and mint BOLD, a USD-pegged stablecoin, at an interest rate they choose. It is the successor to Liquity V1 and its LUSD stablecoin.

DefiLlama lists it in the CDP category with about $93.9 million in TVL, up 0.6% over seven days, and shows it listed since January 2025. DefiLlama also records two audits and LQTY as the associated token.

Liquity AG does not run its own frontend. The homepage lists community-run interfaces (Liquity.App, DeFi Saver, LQTY.IO and Trove Zero) and states it has done no due diligence on them. The project also says V2 has no governance or admins.

How Liquity V2 works

Users deposit ETH, wstETH or rETH into a position and mint BOLD, a USD-pegged stablecoin. Each loan must stay over-collateralized, and the homepage advertises up to 91% LTV on ETH. If collateral value falls too far, the position can be liquidated.

Each borrower picks an interest rate. Redemptions let any BOLD holder swap BOLD for $1 worth of collateral, and positions with lower rates are the ones redeemed against first. So the rate is both a borrowing cost and a way to manage redemption risk. This also helps keep BOLD near its peg.

BOLD deposited in Stability Pools earns rewards, and LQTY stakers vote on where protocol incentives for liquidity go. The contracts are immutable, and price oracles are the only external dependency according to the project.

7 features

Key features

01

User-set interest rates

Borrowers choose the interest rate on their loan and can change it at any time, which sets their exposure to redemptions.

02

Multi-collateral support

Collateral can be ETH, wstETH (Lido) or rETH (Rocket Pool), giving borrowers exposure to ETH and its staking yield.

03

High loan-to-value

The homepage advertises borrowing up to 91% loan-to-value on ETH.

04

One-click leverage

Multiply lets users increase exposure to ETH and its staking yield in one click, up to 11x according to the homepage.

05

Stability Pools and PIL

Depositing BOLD into Stability Pools earns rewards, and Protocol Incentivized Liquidity supports BOLD on external DEXes.

06

LQTY staking

Staking LQTY gives voting power over liquidity incentives and may earn protocol fees, plus revenue from Liquity V1.

07

Immutable design

Per the project, the contracts cannot be upgraded, there are no admins, and BOLD cannot be frozen.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Borrowers set their own interest rate and can change it at any time.
  • Immutable contracts with no admins, so rules cannot be altered after the fact.
  • BOLD is backed only by on-chain crypto collateral, with no real-world assets or centralized custody.
  • Supports ETH, wstETH and rETH, with up to 91% LTV advertised.
  • Direct redemption of BOLD for $1 of collateral supports the peg.
  • Two audits are listed on DefiLlama and TVL is around $94 million.

Watch out for

  • Liquity does not run its own frontend, so users must pick a community-run interface and judge its trustworthiness themselves.
  • Immutability means bugs or design flaws cannot be patched by upgrade.
  • Collateral is limited to ETH, wstETH and rETH, so there is no way to borrow against other assets.
  • Setting your own rate means you must monitor redemption risk; a low rate makes your position more likely to be redeemed against.
  • Prices come from external oracles, which remain a single outside dependency.
  • Up to 11x leverage and 91% LTV amplify liquidation risk in volatile markets.

Liquity V2 fees

Liquity V2 has no fixed interest rate. Borrowers set their own rate, so the cost of a loan depends on what they choose and on market conditions. The homepage claims the best borrow rates in DeFi but public sources give no specific figures.

The project does not detail other costs such as one-time fees, liquidation penalty size, or the fees charged by community frontends. Users would see these on the chosen frontend and in the documentation, plus Ethereum gas costs for each transaction.

Is Liquity V2 safe?

DefiLlama lists two audits for Liquity V2, and the contracts are described as immutable with no governance or admin keys. Immutability removes upgrade-key risk but also means any flaw cannot be patched. Collateral price oracles are the one external dependency the project names.

The main user-facing risk is frontends. Liquity AG does not operate one and says it has not vetted the community operators, so users should do their own research before connecting a wallet. Borrowers also face liquidation if collateral falls, and leverage via Multiply raises that risk. This is not financial advice.

7 steps

How to get started with Liquity V2

  1. 1

Read the Liquity documentation and the V2 guide so you understand redemptions, liquidations and user-set rates.

  2. 2

Pick one of the community frontends listed on the official site and research it, since Liquity AG does not vet them.

  3. 3

Connect an Ethereum wallet holding ETH, wstETH or rETH.

  4. 4

Choose a collateral type and the amount of BOLD to mint, keeping a healthy buffer against liquidation.

  5. 5

Set an interest rate that fits your tolerance for redemption risk.

  6. 6

Monitor your position and adjust the rate or collateral as markets move.

  7. 7

Optionally deposit BOLD in a Stability Pool or stake LQTY to earn.

Who Liquity V2 is for

Liquity V2 is for ETH and liquid staking holders who want to borrow stablecoins without selling their holdings, and who are comfortable managing liquidation and redemption risk. It also suits users who value immutability and minimal trust assumptions over convenience.

Liquity V2 FAQs

What is Liquity V2?

Liquity V2 is a decentralized borrowing protocol on Ethereum. Users deposit ETH, wstETH or rETH as collateral and mint the USD-pegged stablecoin BOLD, choosing their own interest rate.

What is BOLD?

BOLD is the USD-pegged stablecoin issued by Liquity V2. It is over-collateralized and backed only by WETH, wstETH and rETH, and it can be redeemed for $1 worth of protocol collateral.

How do user-set interest rates work?

Users choose their own interest rate on a loan and can adjust it at any time. According to the project, the rate also controls redemption risk, since borrowers paying lower rates are redeemed against first.

Is Liquity V2 immutable and audited?

Liquity says V2 cannot be changed or upgraded and has no governance or admins controlling it. Immutability gives predictability, though it also means errors cannot be fixed by an upgrade. DefiLlama lists two audits for the protocol.

How do I access Liquity V2 if it has no official frontend?

The homepage lists Liquity.App, DeFi Saver, LQTY.IO and Trove Zero as community-hosted frontends. Liquity AG states it has not done due diligence on them, so users should research any interface before connecting a wallet.

How can I earn with Liquity V2?

Users can deposit BOLD into Stability Pools, supply BOLD liquidity on incentivized external DEXes, or stake LQTY to direct incentives. Returns vary and are not guaranteed.
