How crvUSD and Liquity V2 differ

Both protocols let users borrow stablecoins against crypto collateral on Ethereum, but they differ in what the borrower controls. crvUSD is Curve’s stablecoin and supports a selection of collateral, with additions subject to DAO approval. Its LLAMMA design handles liquidation differently from a plain auction, while Peg Stability Reserves aim to support the peg. Liquity V2 mints BOLD against ETH, wstETH or rETH. Its defining choice is the borrower-set interest rate, which can be changed at any time and affects exposure to redemptions. Liquity also describes its contracts as immutable, with no admin keys. That removes upgrade-key risk but means a flaw cannot be patched through an upgrade. Both remain exposed to collateral price drops and liquidation.

Rates and fees

Liquity V2 makes the borrowing rate a user decision: borrowers set their own rate and can change it, while lower rates make positions more likely to face redemptions. The project does not publish specific borrowing-rate figures. With crvUSD, rates vary by market, and the project does not publish rates, minting charges or savings yield. Neither publishes a complete fee schedule in these details. Liquity also does not detail one-time fees, liquidation penalties or charges from community-run frontends. Check the current market or chosen frontend for costs before opening a position. On both protocols, Ethereum gas is an additional transaction cost. Do not treat an advertised borrowing feature or rate-setting option as a guarantee of a particular loan cost.

Safety and borrowing risks

Both protocols list two audits, but that alone does not establish that a position is safe. crvUSD is non-custodial, but collateral is locked in smart contracts and may be lost if prices fall far enough to trigger liquidation. Its peg depends on Peg Stability Reserves and Curve pool liquidity rather than a fiat-backed reserve, and governance decisions can affect collateral. Liquity V2’s immutable contracts have no admins and cannot be upgraded; this limits the risk of an administrator changing the rules, but also prevents upgrades to fix a flaw. The project names external price oracles as a dependency. Borrowers can also be liquidated if collateral falls, and its Multiply feature can amplify that risk. Assess collateral, liquidation and contract risks before borrowing on either protocol.

Which one should you choose?

Choose crvUSD if you want access to Curve’s Mint and Lend markets, want a choice of crypto collateral beyond ETH-based assets, or value its LLAMMA liquidation approach and scrvUSD savings option. Keep in mind that specific rates and savings yield are not published, and collateral remains exposed to liquidation. Choose Liquity V2 if setting your own borrowing rate matters most, or if you prefer its immutable, admin-free contract design. You must be comfortable choosing a community-run frontend, since Liquity does not operate one, and selecting a rate means monitoring redemption exposure. Its collateral is limited to ETH, wstETH and rETH. TVL is higher for crvUSD, at about $127 million versus about $94 million for Liquity V2, but that alone does not decide which suits you.

Verdict: crvUSD or Liquity V2?

Choose crvUSD if Curve’s markets, a broader selection of crypto collateral, LLAMMA’s liquidation design or the scrvUSD savings option fit your strategy. Choose Liquity V2 if you want to set your own borrowing rate and prefer immutable contracts without admin keys. Liquity requires you to select a community-run frontend and keep watch on redemption exposure; crvUSD’s market rates and savings yield are not published. Both are Ethereum-only in these details, and both expose borrowers to liquidation if collateral prices fall.

Frequently asked questions

Which protocol offers a way to earn yield?

crvUSD’s savings product, scrvUSD, is described as a yield-bearing stablecoin. Liquity V2’s Stability Pools offer rewards for depositing BOLD, but specific yields are not published.

Which has more predictable borrowing costs?

Liquity V2 lets borrowers choose and change their own interest rate, while crvUSD’s borrowing rates are variable by market and are not published. Neither protocol publishes a complete fee schedule here, and Ethereum gas costs apply to transactions on both.

Which is safer?

Both list two audits. crvUSD’s collateral can be liquidated if prices fall far enough, while Liquity V2 also carries liquidation risk; its immutable contracts cannot be upgraded to patch a flaw.

Which supports more collateral types?

crvUSD supports a selection of crypto collateral, with new assets subject to DAO approval. Liquity V2 supports ETH, wstETH and rETH, and does not support borrowing against other assets.
