Our verdict on Hermetica USDh
6.0/10Hermetica USDh suits Bitcoin holders who want a dollar-pegged asset with yield and are comfortable with DeFi hedging risk. Its main strength is a clearly stated yield source and two listed audits. The main caveat is size and variability: TVL is under $2M by DefiLlama, yield depends on funding rates, and the backing buffer is thin. Fees and redemption terms are not published in the material we saw. Treat it as a higher-risk yield position, not a cash substitute.

What is Hermetica USDh?
Hermetica USDh is a synthetic dollar protocol built on Bitcoin, running on the Stacks network. DefiLlama files it under basis trading, and its listing dates from February 2025. TVL is around $1.8M according to DefiLlama, so it is a small protocol.
The pitch is a dollar asset backed by Bitcoin rather than fiat, with yield generated by hedging. Hermetica's launch material, as shown in search snippets, says USDh uses Runes and offers yields of up to 25% with no exposure to traditional finance. The current homepage promotes hBTC, a Bitcoin-yield product behind a waitlist, and still points to USDh for buying, staking and use in Bitcoin DeFi.
Backing investors named on the homepage include figures from Zest, Liquidium, Maple Finance and DeSpread, and a former BlackRock angel. The company is Hermetica Labs, Inc.
How Hermetica USDh works
USDh is a synthetic dollar backed by Bitcoin. To keep it worth about one dollar while the backing asset moves in price, the protocol opens short perpetual futures positions that offset the Bitcoin price exposure. Reserves are expected to be worth more than the USDh in circulation. A Google snippet from the Hermetica site showed a backing ratio of 105.04%, with about $2.09M in total backing against $1.99M supply.
The yield comes from that hedge. Short perpetual positions receive funding-rate payments when the market is long-heavy, and those payments are passed to people who stake USDh and hold sUSDh. When funding turns negative, yield falls and can be negative for the hedge.
Hermetica's homepage now leads with hBTC, a related product described as self-custodial Bitcoin that earns Bitcoin with daily yield. It shows three yield sources and a waitlist for access. That product is distinct from USDh.

Pros and cons
What we like
- Bitcoin-backed dollar that avoids fiat reserve and banking exposure.
- Yield source is stated clearly: funding rates on short perpetual positions.
- Two audits listed (Clarity Alliance, Greybeard Security, November 2025) and open-source code.
- Reported backing ratio above 100% in a site snippet.
- Runs on Stacks, a Bitcoin-linked network, giving it a niche in Bitcoin DeFi.
Watch out for
- TVL is small, about $1.8M on DefiLlama, so the protocol has limited scale and liquidity depth.
- Yield depends on perpetual futures funding rates, which can fall or turn negative, so the advertised 'up to 25%' is not guaranteed.
- The homepage now centres on the hBTC product, which is still behind a waitlist, so USDh and hBTC details can be confusing.
- Figures differ between sources (DefiLlama TVL versus the homepage's $5.5M), so readers should check live numbers themselves.
- Backing ratio is about 105% in the snippet we found, a thin cushion, and the USDh price has sat slightly under $1.
- Fees and redemption terms are not published in the material we reviewed.
Hermetica USDh fees
Fees are not published in the material we reviewed. There is no stated mint, redeem or staking fee. Users should check the Hermetica docs and the app for any costs before depositing.
The main economic cost is indirect: yield depends on perpetual futures funding rates, and there are the usual Stacks network transaction fees when moving assets. Exchange spreads apply if you buy USDh on a market.
Is Hermetica USDh safe?
Hermetica lists audits of the hBTC contracts by Clarity Alliance and Greybeard Security, both dated November 2025, and says the protocol is open source. DefiLlama shows two audits. Audits reduce but do not remove smart-contract risk, and coverage of USDh specifically is not detailed in our material.
There are several other risks. The model relies on short perpetual futures positions, which brings funding-rate risk, exchange or counterparty risk where those positions are held, and the possibility of depegging. The USDh price in a snippet was $0.9996, and a third-party price listing implies a small deviation from $1. The backing ratio was about 105%, a modest buffer. Neither the custody setup for hedge positions nor any regulatory status is described publicly we have. Only deposit what you can afford to lose.

How to get started with Hermetica USDh
- 1
Read the Hermetica docs and FAQs to understand USDh, sUSDh and how the hedging works.

Review the audit reports from Clarity Alliance and Greybeard Security linked on the homepage.
- 3
Set up a Stacks-compatible Bitcoin wallet and keep a small amount of STX for network fees.
- 4
Get USDh through the Hermetica app or a Bitcoin exchange that lists it, and check the price against $1.
- 5
Stake USDh to receive sUSDh if you want yield, and check the live APY first.

Who Hermetica USDh is for
This is for crypto-experienced users in the Bitcoin and Stacks ecosystem who want a Bitcoin-backed dollar and are willing to accept funding-rate and smart-contract risk in exchange for variable yield. It is not suited to anyone who needs a guaranteed, fully liquid dollar equivalent.
Hermetica USDh FAQs
What is Hermetica USDh?
USDh is a synthetic dollar issued by Hermetica, backed by Bitcoin rather than fiat reserves. Hermetica describes it as the first Bitcoin-backed synthetic dollar. It runs on Stacks, a Bitcoin layer-2 network.
Where does USDh yield come from?
The yield on staked USDh (sUSDh) comes from funding-rate payments on short perpetual futures positions. Those positions are used to stabilize the dollar value of USDh. Because funding rates change with the market, the yield varies.
How much can you earn with USDh?
The homepage advertises staking for up to 25% APY. That is a ceiling, not a promise. Funding rates fluctuate, and the homepage separately lists a 1.0% APY for hBTC, so check the live rate in the app.
What is hBTC and how is it different from USDh?
hBTC is Hermetica's newer product, pitched as Bitcoin that earns Bitcoin with daily yield. The homepage lists a waitlist for access. It is separate from USDh, which is a dollar-pegged asset.
Is Hermetica audited?
The homepage lists two audits of the hBTC contracts, by Clarity Alliance and Greybeard Security, both dated November 2025. DefiLlama also lists two audits. The audit coverage of the USDh contracts is not detailed in the material we reviewed, so read the reports.
Does Hermetica have a token?
No. DefiLlama lists no governance or project token for it. USDh itself is the stablecoin.
