Echo Lending Review 2026: BTC Lending on Aptos After Shutdown

Echo Lending was a lending market on Aptos for Bitcoin-linked and stablecoin assets, part of a wider Echo Protocol that bridged and staked BTC. Echo has announced it is winding down, so this page is a record of what the product was rather than a recommendation to use it.

Our verdict on Echo Lending

1.5/10

Echo Lending is not a product to use now. It was a lending market on Aptos for BTC-linked and stablecoin assets, with transparent pool rates and risk-tiered vaults. Its main strength on paper was giving Bitcoin holders a route into Aptos DeFi. The main caveat is decisive: new deposits and loans have stopped, reports describe a large loss, and no audits are listed. Anyone with an existing position should follow the official wind-down notice, repay any debt and withdraw what they can.

What is Echo Lending?

Echo Lending was the lending product inside Echo Protocol, a project that aimed to bridge Bitcoin assets onto Aptos and let holders earn yield on them. The app offered supply and borrow markets for aBTC, zUSDT, zUSDC, APT and eAPT, and a set of vaults that routed deposits into partner protocols.

The project is now winding down. News reports say new deposits and new loans have been disabled and interest accrual has stopped. One report describes a loss of about $80 million that the protocol did not recover from. Existing borrowers have been asked to repay what they owe, and the protocol has said it will shut down gradually.

The public material for Echo Lending is limited. The project does not publish audit reports, a fee schedule or a full team roster in the material available, and the TVL shown in public data has dropped to a few thousand dollars. Anyone who still holds a position should follow the official notice rather than the advertised APYs on the app.

How Echo Lending works

Echo Lending is a lending market. Users deposit an asset into a pool, which other users can borrow against collateral. Depositors earn interest paid by borrowers, and the rate moves with how much of the pool is borrowed. The homepage showed a utilization rate of about 9 percent at the time of capture, which means most deposited funds were not being lent out.

Echo also described a Bitcoin layer. Wrapped and bridged BTC versions were brought onto Aptos, and those assets could be used as collateral or supplied to earn yield. Vault products such as Echo Strategy sent deposits into several partner protocols, and the app listed estimated yields for each vault.

For a newcomer, the key point is that a lending pool is only as safe as its smart contracts, its collateral prices and the vaults and partners it depends on. Each of those layers can fail, and the protocol's own wind-down shows how quickly that can happen.

Key features

01

Multi-asset lending markets

Lending pools listed suppliers and borrowers for assets including aBTC, zUSDT, zUSDC, APT and eAPT, each with a stated estimated APY.

02

Bitcoin bridging into Aptos

Several BTC wrappers were shown on the homepage, including UBTC, FBTC, WBTC and oBTC, which the project described as a way to bring Bitcoin into Aptos DeFi.

03

Risk-tiered yield vaults

Echo Strategy vaults were grouped as Safe, Moderate and Aggressive, with estimated maximum APYs and rewards drawn from partner protocols.

04

Echo Points rewards

The homepage listed a points programme with multipliers on some vaults. The public material does not explain how points convert to rewards.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Lending parameters, including supply and borrow rates and utilization, were shown openly in the app.
  • The project offered a route for Bitcoin holders to use BTC-linked assets in Aptos DeFi.
  • Vault products listed estimated APYs, TVL and the underlying partner protocol for each strategy.
  • The wind-down notice gives existing borrowers a clear instruction to repay outstanding debt.

Watch out for

  • New deposits and new borrows have stopped, so the lending market is no longer open to new users.
  • News reports say the protocol failed to recover from a loss of about $80 million, which points to serious security and solvency problems.
  • No audits are listed in the public data, and the homepage does not name an auditor.
  • Estimated APYs are advertised figures, and the protocol's total value locked has fallen sharply, which makes the yields hard to rely on.
  • Smart contract risk and counterparty risk sit with the protocol and the third-party apps its vaults route funds into.

Echo Lending fees

Fees are not published in the material available. Lending rates appear as estimated APYs on the app, and the project does not state any protocol fee, withdrawal fee or performance fee on its homepage.

Is Echo Lending safe?

No audits are listed in the public data, and the homepage does not name an auditing firm. The project does not publish a full audit history, so smart contract risk is high and unverified.

Funds were held in self-custody on Aptos, which means users controlled their own wallets while the protocol's contracts held pooled assets. A protocol loss, a failure of a partner vault or a shutdown can leave depositors with a shortfall, and reports say the protocol did not recover from a large loss.

The project does not describe a regulatory licence. Users should treat any instruction to share a recovery phrase as a scam, and should never give that phrase to anyone. Crypto lending is not covered by deposit insurance.

5 steps

How to get started with Echo Lending

  1. 1

Read the official wind-down notice on the project's website and social channels before taking any action.

  2. 2

Check whether your wallet still holds a supplied balance or an outstanding borrow in the Echo Lending app.

  3. 3

If you have a borrow, repay the outstanding debt first, as the wind-down notice asks borrowers to do.

  4. 4

Withdraw any remaining supplied assets once the app shows them as available.

  5. 5

Confirm that any app or website you use matches the official domain, and never share your recovery phrase with anyone.

Who Echo Lending is for

This page is most useful for existing users who need to understand the wind-down, and for readers researching what went wrong with BTC-linked lending on Aptos. It is not suited to anyone looking for a new place to lend or earn yield.

Echo Lending FAQs

Is Echo Lending still open?

Reports say Echo has stopped accepting new deposits and new loans and has stopped interest accrual. Users with outstanding borrows have been told to repay them. Check the official site for the current status before doing anything with funds.

Was Echo Lending hacked?

Reports describe a loss of about $80 million that the protocol could not recover from, and the protocol has announced the end of operations. The public sources available do not give a full technical post-mortem, so details beyond those reports are not confirmed here.

Which blockchain did Echo Lending run on?

Echo Lending ran on Aptos, a Move-based layer 1 blockchain. Its lending pools covered assets such as aBTC, zUSDT, zUSDC and APT, and its homepage described a Bitcoin bridge and staking layer built on top.

Has Echo Lending been audited?

The public data lists no audits for Echo Lending. The project does not publish its audit history in the material available, so readers should treat smart contract risk as unverified.
