Our verdict on Bonzo Finance
6.3/10Bonzo Finance suits Hedera users who want to lend, borrow or earn on HBAR and HTS tokens without leaving the network. Its main strength is a native design with HTS support, flash loans and trusted oracles, plus a growing product set. The main caveat is transparency: audits, fees and team details are not clearly published in the sources reviewed, and the vaults are still in beta. Verify these before depositing, and size positions carefully.

What is Bonzo Finance?
Bonzo Finance is a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol built for the Hedera network. It was designed to fill a gap in Hedera DeFi by letting retail and institutional users lend and borrow HBAR, major assets bridged through HashPort, and tokens issued on the Hedera Token Service.
Beyond standard money-market features, it lets smart contract developers write flash loan contracts. Its builders describe integrating Hedera's newer oracle services from Pyth and Supra as a key enabler, and say they had to design a hybrid HTS and smart-contract approach to give native tokens ERC-20 style programmability.
The protocol has since expanded. Bonzo Vaults v1 has been released in beta on Hedera mainnet, and a single-sided staking product for the BONZO token ties holders to governance, including protocol upgrades and DAO treasury allocation. The project's litepaper and a Bonzo Finance Labs post on the vision behind the vaults are available from its own materials.
The project does not publish audit details, team information or a fee schedule in the sources reviewed, so readers should verify those directly.
How Bonzo Finance works
Bonzo Finance is a pooled lending market. Users deposit assets into a pool and earn interest, while borrowers take loans from that pool by posting other assets as collateral. If a borrower's collateral value falls too far, the position can be liquidated to protect lenders.
Prices for collateral come from oracles. Bonzo integrates Pyth and Supra, which supply off-chain price data on Hedera. The protocol also supports Hedera Token Service tokens through a hybrid design that combines HTS with Hedera's smart contracts, so native tokens can behave like ERC-20 assets inside the lending logic.
Beyond the core market, Bonzo Vaults automates strategies for depositors. The beta release notes say higher rewards need a narrow range to be specified, which suggests concentrated-liquidity style positions. BONZO holders can stake the token and vote on upgrades and DAO treasury use.
6 features
Key features
01
Lending and borrowing
Users can supply assets to earn interest or borrow against collateral, with a focus on HBAR, bridged major assets and HTS-based tokens.
02
HTS token support
The protocol uses a hybrid of the Hedera Token Service and the Smart Contract Service so native HTS tokens work like ERC-20 style assets.
03
Flash loans
Smart contract developers can implement flash loan contracts, which are uncollateralized loans repaid within a single transaction.
04
Pyth and Supra oracles
The protocol integrates oracle services from Pyth and Supra to bring off-chain price data on-chain for collateral valuation.
05
Bonzo Vaults (beta)
Bonzo Vaults v1 launched in beta on Hedera mainnet, offering managed strategies where rewards depend on the range a user specifies.
06
BONZO staking and governance
BONZO can be staked single-sided, and holders can take part in protocol upgrade decisions and DAO treasury fund allocation.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Purpose-built for Hedera, with support for HBAR and native HTS tokens
- Flash loan support for developers extends it beyond basic lending
- Uses established oracle providers, Pyth and Supra, for price data
- Product range has grown to include vaults and BONZO staking
- Governance token gives holders a say over upgrades and treasury use
Watch out for
- Audit history, team details and insurance or safety-fund arrangements are not described in the sources reviewed
- Fee and interest-rate parameters are not published in the sources reviewed, so costs cannot be compared up front
- Bonzo Vaults v1 is labelled Beta, so that product is early-stage and carries extra smart-contract risk
- Depends on external oracles and on a bridge (HashPort) for wrapped major assets, which adds dependency risk
- Hedera DeFi is smaller than Ethereum-based lending markets, so liquidity and asset choice may be narrower
- Very high lending yields, such as those users have questioned on USDC, can reflect token incentives rather than sustainable borrower demand
Bonzo Finance fees
Bonzo Finance does not publish a fee schedule in the sources reviewed. As in most lending protocols, costs usually come from borrow interest, a spread between supply and borrow rates, possible liquidation penalties and flash-loan fees, but the specific values here are not confirmed.
On Hedera, users also pay network transaction fees. Current supply and borrow rates are shown inside the app, so check them there before depositing or borrowing.
Is Bonzo Finance safe?
Bonzo Finance is non-custodial DeFi: funds sit in smart contracts rather than with a company, so the main risks are contract bugs, oracle failures, bad debt from fast price moves, and bridge risk on wrapped assets. The sources reviewed do not describe audits, bug bounties or a safety reserve, so check the project's documentation for them.
Bonzo Vaults v1 is labelled beta, which warrants extra caution. Community members have asked about the legitimacy of very high USDC lending yields, a reminder to understand where yield comes from. No hacks or incidents are mentioned in the sources reviewed. DeFi lending is not a regulated bank deposit, and nothing here is financial advice.
6 steps
How to get started with Bonzo Finance
- 1
Set up a Hedera-compatible wallet and fund it with a small amount of HBAR for network fees.
- 2
Find the Bonzo Finance app through the project's official channels and confirm the address before connecting a wallet.
- 3
Review the supported assets, current supply and borrow rates, and collateral factors in the app.
- 4
Start with a small deposit to see how interest accrues and how collateral is counted.
- 5
If borrowing, keep a safe margin above the liquidation threshold and monitor your position.
- 6
Read the documentation and litepaper before using Bonzo Vaults or staking BONZO, since those products have their own risks.
Who Bonzo Finance is for
Bonzo Finance is for crypto users already active on Hedera who want to earn interest on HBAR or HTS tokens, borrow against them, or build with flash loans. It suits people comfortable with DeFi risks such as liquidation and smart-contract bugs, and less so those who need audited, insured or regulated products.
Bonzo Finance FAQs
What is Bonzo Finance?
Bonzo Finance is a decentralized lending and borrowing protocol on the Hedera network. Users can supply assets to earn interest or borrow against collateral. It also offers flash loans for developers, Bonzo Vaults in beta, and a governance token called BONZO.
Which blockchain does Bonzo Finance use?
Bonzo Finance runs on Hedera. It supports HBAR, major assets wrapped through the HashPort bridge, and tokens issued with the Hedera Token Service.
What is the BONZO token used for?
BONZO is the protocol's token. According to its staking material, holders can stake it single-sided and take part in protocol upgrade decisions and in DAO treasury allocation. Exact reward rates and lockup terms are not published in the sources reviewed.
Is Bonzo Finance safe?
Nothing in the sources reviewed can settle that, and no audit reports are described there. Any DeFi lending protocol carries smart-contract, oracle and liquidation risk. Check the project's own documentation for audit reports before depositing, and only use funds you can afford to lose.
Why do some lending rates on Bonzo look so high?
Users in the Hedera community have asked about the legitimacy of high USDC lending APYs on Bonzo. In lending markets, yields move with borrower demand and may be boosted by token incentives, so a high figure can fall quickly. Check how much of any quoted rate comes from incentives.
What are Bonzo Vaults?
Bonzo Vaults v1 was released in beta on the Hedera mainnet. The release notes mention that earning greater rewards requires specifying a narrow range, which points to concentrated-liquidity style strategies. Because it is beta, treat it as higher risk than the core lending market.
