Mezo is a Bitcoin-first network built around borrowing, saving and earning yield against BTC without custodians or wrappers. It runs as its own Bitcoin sidechain, or appchain, rather than as a layer on top of Ethereum. Its apps include Velodrome-based DEX code, so it supports Solidity-style smart contracts. Users bring in assets through Mezo's native bridge from Ethereum or through tBTC, and Wormhole connects it to other chains.
MEZO is the native token. It is linked to governance, incentive voting and a lock-up based airdrop design. The network's own stablecoin, MUSD, is minted against BTC collateral. Fee levels and token mechanics can change, so check the official documentation before transacting. At the time of writing, DeFi TVL on Mezo is about $6.8M, which makes it a small ecosystem.
The dApps here are mostly about putting Bitcoin to work. Mezo Borrow handles collateralized MUSD loans, and Mezo Earn combines yield with governance votes on network incentives. Mezo Vaults offers strategist-managed yield vaults powered by Upshift. Trading runs through Tigris Mezo V3, a concentrated liquidity DEX, and Tigris Mezo V2, a ve(3,3) DEX. Upshift and Mellow Core also support Mezo but operate across many chains. OmniHub is a multichain NFT launchpad on our list. All of these carry smart contract and market risk.

Mezo FAQs
What is Mezo?
Mezo is a Bitcoin-first network built so BTC holders can borrow, save and earn yield against their coins without handing them to a custodian. It works as a Bitcoin sidechain or appchain with its own apps, rather than as a general-purpose chain.
What is the MEZO token used for?
MEZO is the network's native token. It is tied to governance, incentives and the airdrop and lock-up programs described in Mezo's own material. Check the official documentation for current token mechanics before acting on them.
How can I borrow against Bitcoin on Mezo?
Mezo Borrow lets users lock BTC as collateral and mint MUSD, a Bitcoin-backed stablecoin, without selling their Bitcoin. Borrowing against collateral carries liquidation risk if its value falls, so read the terms first.
How do I move assets onto Mezo?
Mezo's app includes a native bridge for depositing several assets from Ethereum to Mezo Mainnet, and tBTC is used for bridging Bitcoin. Wormhole also supports Mezo, and MUSD has been extended to other chains through Wormhole. Follow the official guides and test with a small amount first.
Which dApps are on Mezo?
Mezo Vaults and Mezo Earn cover yield and governance rewards for BTC holders, and Tigris Mezo V2 and V3 are the DEXes. Upshift and Mellow Core also appear here, but they are multi-chain vault platforms and most of their TVL sits outside Mezo.
Is Mezo safe to use?
Mezo says its code was reviewed by independent parties before Mainnet launch, which is a good sign. An audit does not remove the risk of bugs, bridge failures or liquidation losses, so only commit funds you can afford to lose.
What is the largest dApp on Mezo by TVL?
Upshift is the largest dApp on Mezo by total value locked, with $460M across all the chains it supports. It is followed by Mellow Core ($246M) and Mezo Earn ($60.9M). TVL figures come from DefiLlama and change daily.

DappsAtlas tracks 8 dApps on Mezo. Of these, 8 have a full review and 7 report value locked, $770M in total, counting value on every chain they support.
