Botanix is a Bitcoin layer-2 network from Botanix Labs that is compatible with the Ethereum Virtual Machine. Its Spiderchain design lets the EVM process transactions and keep network state, while Bitcoin's proof-of-work provides final settlement and security. The goal was to let developers write Ethereum-style smart contracts that work with BTC, instead of with a separate asset.

Botanix has no separate native token in our data, and BTC is the asset the network was built around. In September 2025 Botanix Labs introduced stBTC, a token meant to earn a share of the transaction fees paid on the network. Reports from June 2026 say Botanix Labs is shutting the network down because fee revenue could not cover operating costs and demand for Bitcoin DeFi was low. Check official announcements for the current status.

The ecosystem was small. Our site lists seven dApps connected to Botanix, and our data shows DeFi TVL at $0 at the time of writing. The best-known are Dolomite, a money market for lending, borrowing and leveraged positions, and atomiq exchange, which swaps native Bitcoin, on-chain or over Lightning, with Solana, Starknet, Citrea and Botanix. Read each dApp's notices before depositing or swapping.

Botanix FAQs

What is Botanix?

Botanix is an EVM-compatible Bitcoin layer-2 built by Botanix Labs. Its Spiderchain design runs smart contracts like Ethereum's while relying on Bitcoin for final settlement and security. Its aim was to bring lending, staking and swaps to BTC holders.

Is Botanix shutting down?

Reports from June 2026 say Botanix Labs is shutting down the network, citing weak demand for Bitcoin DeFi and fee revenue that could not cover running costs. Check Botanix Labs' official announcements for the current status and for any steps users need to take.

Is Botanix compatible with Ethereum tools?

Botanix is EVM-compatible, so Ethereum-style smart contracts and wallets can work on it. Transactions are processed by the EVM, and Bitcoin's proof-of-work provides settlement. That is why Solidity-based apps such as Dolomite could deploy there.

What token does Botanix use?

Botanix does not have a separate native token in our data. It was designed around Bitcoin, so BTC is the asset users hold and use for fees. Separately, Botanix Labs introduced stBTC, a token meant to earn a share of network fees.
