Our verdict on zkDX

4.0/10

zkDX suits experienced DeFi users who want to look at a small, pool-based perpetuals exchange on Layer 2 and who understand leverage. Its main strength is the range of markets it describes, including crypto, foreign currency and stocks. The main caveat is size and status: TVL is under $20,000 and fell about 50% in a week, its description refers to demo trading, and fees and team details are not published. Treat it as high risk and confirm it is live first.

What is zkDX?

zkDX is a decentralized derivatives exchange that uses a liquidity-pool model, paired with a staking pool. It was built on zkSync Era and is tracked on Linea and zkLink as well. The protocol has been listed since May 2023.

Its description says it supports demo trading of crypto perpetual futures, foreign currencies, stocks and other derivatives, with leveraged products and low trading fees. The project lists a token called ZKDLP, and two audits are recorded in its tracking entry.

The current numbers are small. TVL is about $17,942 and dropped about 50% over the last seven days. Market pages show the token trading at a fraction of a cent. The project's homepage could not be confirmed, so users should verify that the product is live before connecting a wallet.

How zkDX works

zkDX is described as a decentralized derivatives exchange of liquidity mode. In this model, liquidity providers deposit assets into a shared pool, and traders open leveraged positions against that pool rather than against other traders. Prices come from external feeds, and the pool earns fees and takes the other side of trader profit and loss.

Traders can open perpetual futures, which are contracts that track an asset's price with no expiry. Leverage magnifies both gains and losses, and positions are liquidated if the margin falls too far. The description says the product also covers foreign currencies and stocks, although it mentions demo trading rather than live trading.

The project also has a staking pool. Users can stake its token to earn a share of rewards, and a past Galxe campaign referred to an escrowed reward token called esZKDX. Exact reward mechanics are not published in the sources reviewed.

6 features

Key features

01

Liquidity-pool derivatives

The protocol describes itself as a decentralized derivatives exchange built around a liquidity pool, rather than an order book of matched traders.

02

Multi-asset perpetuals

Its description lists crypto perpetual futures, foreign currencies, stocks and other financial derivatives as supported markets.

03

Staking pool

A staking pool is part of the product, and users can stake the project's token. Reward terms are not stated in the sources reviewed.

04

Multi-chain Layer 2

The protocol is tracked on zkSync Era, Linea and zkLink, all Layer 2 networks.

05

Demo trading

The description mentions demo trading, which lets users try the platform without risking funds.

06

Community reward campaigns

A past Galxe quest offered esZKDX rewards, which suggests the project used community campaigns to attract users.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Liquidity-pool design avoids the need for matching buyers and sellers
  • Broad market scope that includes crypto, foreign currency and stock perpetuals
  • Built on Layer 2 networks, which usually means lower gas costs
  • Two audits are listed in the protocol's tracking entry
  • Includes a staking pool and has run community reward campaigns

Watch out for

  • TVL is only about $17,942 and fell roughly 50% in the past week, which points to very thin liquidity
  • The protocol's own description refers to demo trading, so live trading availability is unclear
  • The homepage could not be confirmed, so the current state of the front end is uncertain
  • Team, fee schedule and audit reports are not published in the sources reviewed
  • The ZKDLP and ZKDX tokens trade at very low prices, which suggests weak market interest
  • Leveraged perpetuals carry liquidation risk, and low liquidity can worsen slippage and pricing

zkDX fees

Specific trading, funding or borrowing fees are not published in the sources reviewed. The protocol describes its fees as cheap, but gives no figures.

In liquidity-pool derivatives exchanges, users typically pay opening and closing fees, plus funding or borrow costs, and Layer 2 gas. Check the fee details inside the app before opening any position.

Is zkDX safe?

Two audits are listed for zkDX, but the auditors, scope and findings are not named in the sources reviewed. The team and any admin-key or upgrade controls are not published there either. As with any DeFi protocol, users keep custody of funds in their own wallet but face smart-contract risk when depositing.

Very low TVL and a sharp weekly drop raise concerns about liquidity, pricing and long-term support. Leveraged trading can result in total loss of margin. Derivatives are regulated in many countries, so check local rules. Users must be adults and should only trade with money they can afford to lose.

6 steps

How to get started with zkDX

  1. 1

Confirm that the official site and app are live, and that trading is open rather than demo-only.

  2. 2

Check that derivatives trading is legal in your jurisdiction.

  3. 3

Set up a wallet that supports zkSync Era, Linea or zkLink and bridge a small amount of funds.

  4. 4

Try demo trading first if it is available to learn how the interface and leverage work.

  5. 5

Read the fee and liquidation terms in the app before opening a live position.

  6. 6

Keep position sizes small and use a low leverage setting, given the thin liquidity.

Who zkDX is for

zkDX is for experienced DeFi users who already understand perpetual futures, leverage and liquidation, and who want to explore small Layer 2 projects. It does not suit beginners or anyone who needs deep liquidity and a well-documented team.
