Wildcat Protocol Review 2026: Undercollateralised Credit

Wildcat is an Ethereum protocol where borrowers set up their own undercollateralised credit lines and lenders deposit into a single borrower's market. It is flexible, but lenders take on direct counterparty risk.

By the DappsAtlas editorial team · Updated

Our verdict on Wildcat Protocol

6.8/10

Wildcat suits experienced DeFi users and borrowers who want to set up or join a private, single-counterparty credit market on Ethereum. Its main strength is configurability: borrowers set rates, access and legal terms, and markets are segregated. The main caveat is that loans can be undercollateralised and Wildcat does not underwrite them, so lenders carry default risk. DefiLlama also lists no audits and a modest, falling TVL. Treat it as a high-risk credit product and size positions accordingly.

What is Wildcat Protocol?

Wildcat is a lending protocol on Ethereum, and DefiLlama also lists a Plasma deployment. Its pitch is on-chain private credit without excessive collateral. Borrowers create their own credit lines, set the terms, and choose which lenders can take part.

DefiLlama files it under uncollateralised lending and shows about $3.1 million in TVL, down 18% over seven days, with no audits listed and no token. The homepage reports total credit given of about $16.4 million and total credit extended of about $77.8 million. These are the project's own figures and are not independently verified here. DefiLlama has tracked it since December 2023.

The design is closer to a toolkit for private credit than a pooled money market. Terms, access and legal wrappers are decided by the borrower, and Wildcat does not step in once a market is live.

How Wildcat Protocol works

A borrower deploys a market and sets its terms: the interest rate, any lockup period, how withdrawals are processed, and the reserve ratio. The borrower also decides who may lend, through access lists or compliance policies. Eligible lenders then deposit assets into that market and receive market tokens that represent their credit line.

Each market is segregated. Lenders are exposed only to the borrower of the market they chose, with no cross-exposure to other borrowers, so a default elsewhere does not spread. Wildcat says it does not and cannot underwrite or interfere with a market once it is live, so the lender's judgement of the borrower is the main protection.

Withdrawals follow set cycles on a first-come, first-served basis. Fixed-duration markets can convert to open term after a maturity date, and a borrower can repay all debt and close a market in a single transaction. Optional collateral contracts and tradable debt tokens are listed as coming soon.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Borrowers can set interest rates, lockups, withdrawal cycles, reserve ratios and minimum deposits.
  • Segregated markets mean lenders face one borrower, with no contagion from defaults elsewhere.
  • Custom access lists and compliance policies allow lender onboarding that fits regulatory needs.
  • Borrowers can choose to add off-chain legal agreements to back the relationship.
  • Fixed rates and visible market activity make terms easier to read.
  • Public technical documentation and a contest repository from 2023 are available for review.

Watch out for

  • No audits are listed on DefiLlama, so readers must check the documentation and the public Code4rena contest repository for security history.
  • Loans are undercollateralised, so lenders carry real default risk on the specific borrower they choose.
  • Wildcat does not underwrite or interfere with markets once deployed, so there is no protocol-level backstop for lenders.
  • TVL is about $3.1 million and fell 18% over seven days, which suggests a small and variable pool of capital.
  • Some features, such as optional collateral contracts and transferable debt tokens, are marked as coming soon.
  • The homepage says the app should be launched on desktop, which limits mobile use.

Wildcat Protocol fees

The project does not publish a protocol fee schedule. Interest rates are fixed and set by each borrower for their own market, so the cost of borrowing and the return for lending vary by market. Users should check the market details in the Wildcat app and the documentation before depositing or borrowing, and should expect normal Ethereum network gas costs.

Is Wildcat Protocol safe?

DefiLlama lists no audits for Wildcat. Public reporting shows a public Code4rena contest repository from October 2023 and a security and developer section in the official documentation, which readers should consult directly instead of relying on this review. The project does not give audit reports, findings or incident history.

The larger risk is credit risk, not only smart-contract risk. Loans can be undercollateralised, and Wildcat does not underwrite markets, so lenders must evaluate the borrower, the legal arrangements if any, and the market terms themselves. Fixed lockups and withdrawal cycles may also delay access to funds. Regulatory status is not stated publicly. Nothing here is financial advice.

6 steps

How to get started with Wildcat Protocol

  1. 1

Read the Wildcat documentation and FAQ, including the sections on security and how markets work.

  2. 2

Open the Wildcat app on a desktop browser, as the homepage asks, and connect a compatible Ethereum wallet.

  3. 3

As a lender, browse the available markets and review each borrower's terms, access rules, fixed rate, lockup and withdrawal cycle.

  4. 4

Check whether the market is public or requires approval, and use the contact details shown for approval-required markets.

  5. 5

Decide how much you can afford to lose, since the loans are undercollateralised, and make a small deposit that respects the minimum amount.

  6. 6

As a borrower, define your market parameters and lender access list, and decide whether to add an off-chain legal agreement before launching.

Who Wildcat Protocol is for

Wildcat is for borrowers such as trading firms or crypto-native businesses that want on-chain credit on their own terms, and for lenders who can assess a named counterparty and accept default risk. It is not suited to beginners looking for a simple, diversified yield product.

Wildcat Protocol FAQs

What is Wildcat Protocol?

Wildcat is a protocol that lets borrowers deploy undercollateralised credit lines on-chain. Each borrower creates a market with their own terms, and lenders who are allowed in deposit assets into that market.

Is Wildcat safe for lenders?

Wildcat itself does not underwrite or interfere with a market once it is deployed. Each market is segregated, so a default in one market does not spread to others, but lenders can still lose money if their borrower does not repay.

What can borrowers configure?

Borrowers choose interest rates, lockup periods, withdrawal cycles, reserve ratios and minimum deposit sizes. They can also set an access list or compliance policy that decides who may lend, and can choose whether to back the market with an off-chain legal agreement.

Does Wildcat have a token?

DefiLlama lists no token for Wildcat, and public information here do not name a native token. Check the official documentation for any future announcements.

Which blockchains does Wildcat run on?

DefiLlama lists Ethereum and Plasma. The homepage describes Wildcat as an Ethereum protocol.

How are rates set?

Interest rates are fixed. Each market sets its own rate, and the app shows APR changes and past activity for individual markets, so check the market page before depositing.
