UwU Lend Review 2026: Lending Market After 2024 Exploits

UwU Lend is an Ethereum lending market that lost roughly $20 million in an exploit in June 2024 and was hit again days later. It now holds very little capital and carries high risk.

Our verdict on UwU Lend

2.5/10

UwU Lend is a conventional Ethereum lending market, but its record overrides that simple design. A roughly $20 million exploit in June 2024 and a second reported $3.7 million loss days later, plus no listed audits and very low remaining liquidity, make it a poor choice for most users. It may interest researchers studying lending-protocol failures. Anyone thinking of depositing should assume a high chance of loss and look at established, audited markets first.

What is UwU Lend?

UwU Lend is a decentralized lending market on Ethereum. Users deposit assets to earn interest, and borrowers pay interest to take loans. It launched in 2022 and has its own token, UWU.

The project is best known for the exploit on 10 June 2024. A smart contract vulnerability was used across three transactions on Ethereum Mainnet, and early reports put the loss at about $19.3 million. A few days later, on 13 June, the same attacker reportedly took another $3.7 million.

After these events the protocol holds only a small amount of value, under $100,000 in total deposits. The UWU token trades at a fraction of a cent with very little volume. The project's website could not be reached, and no audits are listed.

How UwU Lend works

UwU Lend is a pooled money market. Depositors supply tokens to a shared smart contract pool and receive a claim on their deposit plus interest. Borrowers take tokens out of the pool and pay interest, which is how depositors are paid.

Borrowers normally must lock collateral worth more than the loan. If the collateral's value falls too far, the position can be liquidated to repay the debt. Interest rates adjust automatically, rising when more of the pool is borrowed and falling when it is not.

This design depends entirely on the smart contract code and its price and accounting logic. A flaw can let an attacker withdraw far more than they should, which is what the June 2024 exploit involved.

4 features

Key features

01

Deposit and earn interest

Users supply assets to a pool and earn interest from borrowers. This is the standard model for on-chain money markets.

02

Borrowing against collateral

Borrowers take loans from the shared pool and pay interest. Loans are normally backed by collateral deposited into the protocol.

03

Ethereum-based market

The market runs on Ethereum, so users connect a self-custody wallet and interact directly with smart contracts.

04

UWU token

UWU is the protocol's own token. Its exact current utility is not documented.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Straightforward pooled lending model on Ethereum: deposit to earn, borrow against collateral
  • Non-custodial design, so users keep their assets in their own wallet until they deposit
  • Has been listed since September 2022, so the contracts and the 2024 incident are well documented publicly
  • Security firms have published analyses of the exploit, which makes the failure mode understandable

Watch out for

  • A smart contract vulnerability led to an exploit of about $19–20 million across three transactions on 10 June 2024
  • The same attacker reportedly drained a further $3.7 million three days later, which points to weaknesses that were not fully contained
  • No audits are listed for the protocol
  • Deposits have shrunk to under $100,000 in total value locked, so liquidity is thin
  • The UWU token trades at a fraction of a cent with very little volume
  • The project's website could not be reached, and no current team, recovery plan or compensation scheme is clearly published

UwU Lend fees

UwU Lend does not publish a fee schedule that we could confirm. As in most lending markets, the main cost to a borrower is the variable interest rate, and depositors earn a share of that interest. Both rates move with how much of the pool is borrowed.

Every action on Ethereum also costs network gas, which varies with congestion. Any protocol or reserve fees would be shown in the app or its documentation, which could not be reviewed here.

Is UwU Lend safe?

Security is the central issue. The protocol lost about $19–20 million in a single exploit on 10 June 2024 because of a smart contract vulnerability, and was reportedly hit again for $3.7 million on 13 June by the same attacker. No audits are listed for the project.

Lending protocols hold user funds in smart contracts, so depositors carry full contract risk and no insurance or guarantee is documented. Whether affected users were compensated is not established, and the project does not clearly publish a recovery plan. Regulatory status and team details are not published either. Treat any use as high risk and never deposit more than you can lose.

6 steps

How to get started with UwU Lend

  1. 1

Check for official announcements on the project's verified social account, since it is unclear whether the market is fully operating after the 2024 exploits.

  2. 2

Confirm the official contract addresses from a trusted source before connecting a wallet, as impersonation sites are common after hacks.

  3. 3

Decide whether you can afford to lose any funds you deposit, given the history of exploits and the lack of listed audits.

  4. 4

Use a separate wallet with a small amount of funds rather than your main holdings.

  5. 5

If you proceed, review the current interest rates, collateral factors and liquidation thresholds in the app before supplying or borrowing.

  6. 6

Monitor the position and withdraw promptly if the project issues security warnings.

Who UwU Lend is for

UwU Lend suits only researchers and experienced DeFi users who want to study how a lending-protocol exploit happened or who accept very high risk. It is not suitable for newcomers or for anyone who needs reliable access to their funds.

UwU Lend FAQs

What is UwU Lend?

UwU Lend is a lending and borrowing market on Ethereum. Users deposit assets to earn interest, and borrowers pay interest to take loans against collateral. It also has its own token, UWU.

Was UwU Lend hacked?

On 10 June 2024, UwU Lend was exploited across three transactions on Ethereum Mainnet because of a smart contract vulnerability. Early reports put the loss at about $19.3 million. Roughly three days later, the same attacker reportedly drained a further $3.7 million.

Is UwU Lend still operating?

The protocol still shows a small amount of deposited value, under $100,000, but its website could not be reached and the project does not clearly publish its current status. Anyone considering it should treat it as high risk and check for official updates first.

Has UwU Lend been audited?

No audits are listed for UwU Lend. An audit would not remove the risk anyway, but the lack of one, combined with two exploits, is a serious warning sign.

What are the fees on UwU Lend?

Interest rates are set by the market's supply and demand and are shown inside the app. The project does not publish a fixed fee schedule that we could confirm. Ethereum gas costs apply to every transaction.

What is the UWU token worth?

The UWU token is listed on tracking sites at well under one cent, with a market capitalisation of only tens of thousands of dollars. Trading volume is very low, so it may be hard to sell. This is not investment advice.
