Our verdict on Usual ETH0
6.0/10Usual ETH0 suits experienced DeFi users who already understand wstETH and want ETH exposure inside the Usual ecosystem. Its main strength is a clearly stated collateral, wstETH, within a protocol that lists audits from five security firms. The main caveats are small tracked liquidity, a short record, unpublished mint and redemption terms and fees, and the protocol's USD0++ depeg in early 2025. Read the docs and test with a small amount first.

What is Usual ETH0?
Usual ETH0 is the Ether product of the Usual protocol. It is a synthetic Ethereum-based asset that the protocol says is fully collateralized by Lido's wrapped staked ETH, or wstETH. It runs on Ethereum.
Usual itself is better known for USD0, a stablecoin backed by tokenized US Treasury bills, and for its USUAL token. The homepage frames the project as a way to return value to users instead of to a central issuer. ETH0 sits alongside USD0 and EUR0 in the protocol's product list.
The tracker records roughly $2.2 million of value locked in ETH0, up about 3.8% over seven days, with a listing date of late February 2026. That makes it a small product with a short record. The team, the mint and redemption terms and the ETH0-specific audit coverage are not set out in the material reviewed.
How Usual ETH0 works
ETH0 is a synthetic Ether token. A synthetic asset is a token designed to track the value of another asset, here ETH, without being ETH itself. According to the tracker description, ETH0 is fully collateralized by wstETH, Lido's wrapped staked ETH. wstETH is a token whose value grows against ETH as Lido's staking rewards accumulate.
The protocol's help center lists ETH0 as ETH exposure backed by wstETH, next to its dollar token USD0 and its euro token EUR0. The material reviewed does not spell out the mint and redeem process for ETH0. In protocols of this type, users generally deposit approved collateral to receive the token and can later return it for the collateral, subject to the issuer's rules.
Usual's wider design routes protocol revenue to holders of its USUAL token rather than to a company, and the homepage says 90% of value goes back to users. How much of this reaches ETH0 holders in particular is not stated.
6 features
Key features
01
wstETH-backed synthetic ETH
ETH0 is described as a synthetic Ethereum-based asset collateralized by Lido's wstETH, so it tracks Ether exposure.
02
Ethereum mainnet token
The token lives on Ethereum, so it can be held in standard Ethereum wallets and used with other Ethereum contracts.
03
Part of the Usual family
ETH0 is listed in the protocol's help center as the ETH product, next to USD0 for dollars and EUR0 for euros.
04
Revenue-sharing model
The protocol states that 90% of value goes back to users, mainly via the USUAL token, though the share ETH0 holders receive is not published.
05
Protocol-level audits listed
The homepage lists audits by Paladin, Halborn, Spearbit, Cantina and Sherlock for the Usual protocol.
06
Public docs and contracts
Usual publishes documentation, a whitepaper, token contract addresses and a transparency section for users to verify.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Collateral is stated plainly: wstETH, a widely used liquid staking token.
- Operates on Ethereum mainnet, where wallets and tooling are mature.
- Sits inside a protocol that lists audits from five named security firms.
- Official docs list token contract addresses and a transparency section.
- Part of a protocol with a revenue-sharing token, USUAL, aimed at distributing value to users.
Watch out for
- Tracked TVL is small, at roughly $2.2 million, so liquidity and market depth may be limited.
- The mint and redemption terms for ETH0 are not set out in the material reviewed, so users must check the docs before relying on it.
- Backing depends on Lido's wstETH, which adds smart-contract and staking-derivative risk on top of Usual's own contracts.
- The wider Usual protocol went through a public depeg of USD0++ in January 2025 after a change to its redemption terms, which shows governance and design risk.
- The TVL tracker lists no audits for this specific product, so audit coverage for ETH0 itself is not confirmed.
- The listing is recent, with a tracker entry dating from February 2026, so ETH0 has a short track record.
Usual ETH0 fees
The material reviewed does not publish a fee schedule for ETH0. There is no stated mint fee, redemption fee or management fee.
Users would see any protocol charges in the Usual app and technical docs before confirming. Ethereum network gas applies to every transaction, and wstETH carries Lido's own staking fee structure underneath.
Is Usual ETH0 safe?
The Usual homepage lists audits by Paladin, Halborn, Spearbit, Cantina and Sherlock. A TVL tracker shows no audits attached to the ETH0 entry, so readers should check which contracts those audits covered. Audits reduce risk but do not remove it.
ETH0 carries layered risks: Usual's own contracts, Lido's wstETH contracts, and Ethereum itself. A synthetic token can trade below its backing if confidence falls or redemption rules change. In January 2025, the protocol's USD0++ token fell to roughly $0.92 to $0.935 after Usual said its hardcoded $1 redemption price would drop to $0.87. That episode involved a different token, but it is relevant to how the protocol handles governance and terms.
The material reviewed does not describe the legal status of the issuer or any insurance for ETH0. The homepage mentions an insurance fund for USD0, not ETH0. Treat this as a smart-contract-based product with no deposit protection.
6 steps
How to get started with Usual ETH0
- 1
Read the ETH0 section of the Usual help center and technical docs to understand how minting and redemption work.
- 2
Find the official ETH0 token contract address in the docs, and use only that address.
- 3
Set up an Ethereum wallet and fund it with ETH for gas, plus wstETH or other assets the app accepts.
- 4
Open the Usual app from the official site and connect your wallet.
- 5
Start with a small amount to check the quoted rate, fees and redemption path.
- 6
Monitor the ETH0 price and the protocol's announcements for any change in terms.
Who Usual ETH0 is for
ETH0 is for DeFi users comfortable with liquid staking tokens, smart-contract risk and synthetic assets. It may interest holders of USUAL or users of other Usual products. It is not suited to beginners or to anyone who needs deep liquidity or deposit protection.
Usual ETH0 FAQs
What is Usual ETH0?
ETH0 is a synthetic Ether asset issued by the Usual protocol on Ethereum. It is described as fully collateralized by Lido's wrapped staked ETH, known as wstETH.
What backs ETH0?
The protocol describes ETH0 as ETH exposure backed by wstETH. Because wstETH is a staked-ETH token, the collateral is tied to Ether's price and to Lido's staking system.
Which blockchain does ETH0 run on?
The tracked data shows ETH0 on Ethereum only. Check the protocol's token contracts page for the official address before interacting with it.
What are the fees for ETH0?
No fees for ETH0 are published in the material reviewed. Users would see mint, redemption and network gas costs in the Usual app and docs before confirming a transaction.
Is Usual ETH0 audited?
The Usual homepage lists audits by Paladin, Halborn, Spearbit, Cantina and Sherlock for the protocol. A TVL tracker lists no audits for the ETH0 entry itself, so confirm in the docs which contracts each audit covers.
Is ETH0 the same as the USUAL token?
USUAL is the protocol's governance and revenue-sharing token. The tracker links it to this entry, but ETH0 is a separate token and holding it does not by itself give you USUAL.
Is ETH0 safe to hold?
Any use carries risk. Smart-contract bugs, wstETH problems or a change in redemption rules could hurt holders. The protocol's USD0++ depeg in January 2025 shows that design changes can move prices quickly.
