Our verdict on The Standard

5.8/10

The Standard suits experienced DeFi users on Arbitrum who want to borrow a stablecoin without paying interest while their collateral keeps earning Uniswap V3 fees. Its main strength is the combination of non-custodial vaults, 0% borrowing and tradeable vault NFTs. The main caveat is size: TVL is only about $10.6K, the 110% collateral ratio leaves little room for price drops, and yield depends on variable pools with impermanent loss. Keep positions small and check the docs first.

What is The Standard?

The Standard is a decentralized, over-collateralized stablecoin protocol on Arbitrum, listed by DefiLlama in the CDP category. Users lock crypto in smart vaults, borrow the USDs stablecoin against it, and earn yield by having the collateral deployed in Uniswap V3 liquidity pools. It also has a euro-linked coin, EUROs, and a protocol token, TST.

Its pitch is 0% interest borrowing with a 110% minimum collateral ratio, no lock-in periods and no time limit to repay. DefiLlama has tracked it since September 2023.

Scale is the main concern. DefiLlama shows TVL of about $10.6K, up 3.3% over seven days. The homepage reports 1,035 smart vaults opened. The homepage also still has placeholder text in one section, which suggests parts of the site are unfinished.

How The Standard works

A user creates a smart vault from their wallet and deposits collateral. The vault is non-custodial, meaning the user's private key controls it. The collateral is then placed into Uniswap V3 concentrated liquidity pools, where it earns trading fees that are compounded automatically.

Against that collateral the user can borrow USDs, the protocol's stablecoin, at 0% interest as long as the vault stays at or above a 110% collateral ratio. If the ratio falls below that, the vault risks liquidation. The user can trade the collateral without repaying the loan.

The protocol also has a mechanism for when USDs trades below $1. Some vaults, prioritizing those closest to liquidation, can buy USDs below peg and use it to pay down debt at a discount. Each vault is also an NFT that can be sold, which transfers the debt and collateral to the buyer.

7 features

Key features

01

Non-custodial smart vaults

Users create a non-custodial smart vault controlled by their own private key, and every action must be signed by that key.

02

0% interest borrowing

Borrow USDs at 0% interest while keeping at least a 110% collateral ratio. There is no time limit on repaying and no lock-in period.

03

Auto-compounding yield

Collateral is deployed into Uniswap V3 concentrated liquidity pools, with trading fees automatically compounded.

04

Multi-asset collateral

A single vault can hold a portfolio of tokens as collateral, with allocation split between stable and volatile pools.

05

Discounted debt repayment

If USDs trades below $1, vaults closest to liquidation can pay down debt at a discount by buying USDs below peg.

06

Vault NFTs

Each vault is a dynamic NFT showing live debt and collateral, which can be sold or transferred to another wallet.

07

USDs, EUROs and TST

Besides USDs, the homepage lists EUROs, and TST is the protocol token, all with contracts on Arbitrum.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Borrowing is advertised at 0% interest with no time limit to repay and no lock-in periods.
  • Vaults are non-custodial, so the user's private key controls the collateral.
  • Collateral can keep earning yield in Uniswap V3 pools while backing a loan.
  • Vault NFTs let users sell or transfer a position, including its debt.
  • The homepage cites a large public audit contest involving 250+ auditors, and DefiLlama lists two audits.

Watch out for

  • TVL is very small, about $10.6K on DefiLlama, which suggests limited adoption and thin liquidity.
  • Yield depends on Uniswap V3 concentrated liquidity, so users face impermanent loss and variable returns.
  • The 110% minimum collateral ratio is tight, so a sharp price drop can lead to liquidation.
  • The homepage still contains placeholder text in its feature section, which looks unfinished.
  • Marketing claims such as 'bulletproof security' are not a guarantee, and only two audits are listed on DefiLlama.
  • Only Arbitrum is supported, and the 0% interest borrowing is stated as Arbitrum-only.

The Standard fees

The homepage states that borrowing USDs carries 0% interest with a minimum 110% collateral ratio. Other costs, such as protocol fees, swap costs, gas on Arbitrum, or fees taken from yield, are not detailed publicly.

Users should check the docs and the dapp before opening a vault. Yield figures are dynamic and based on hourly snapshots, so they may differ from what you actually earn, and impermanent loss can reduce returns.

Is The Standard safe?

The homepage says all smart contracts were audited by more than 250 independent security auditors through Cyfrin / CodeHawks, and it reports bounties paid. DefiLlama lists two audits. Audit contests help find bugs but do not guarantee safety, and public sources give no details on admin keys, oracles or past incidents.

Vaults are non-custodial, but users still carry smart-contract risk, liquidation risk at the 110% collateral ratio, impermanent loss from Uniswap V3 positions, and the risk that USDs loses its peg. With TVL near $10.6K, liquidity is thin. Treat any amount you deposit as high risk, and do not rely on advertised yields.

6 steps

How to get started with The Standard

  1. 1

Check the official site and docs, and confirm the TST, USDs and EUROs contract addresses against the ones published on the homepage.

  2. 2

Set up an Arbitrum-compatible wallet and fund it with ETH on Arbitrum for gas and with the collateral you want to use.

  3. 3

Open the dapp and create a Smart Vault, which is controlled by your wallet's private key.

  4. 4

Deposit collateral and choose how to split it between stable and volatile pools.

  5. 5

Decide how much USDs to borrow, keeping a safe buffer above the 110% minimum collateral ratio.

  6. 6

Monitor the vault regularly, since a falling collateral value can trigger liquidation.

Who The Standard is for

The Standard is for DeFi-literate users on Arbitrum who are comfortable with liquidation risk, Uniswap V3 mechanics and impermanent loss. It is not suited to beginners or anyone seeking predictable, low-risk returns.

The Standard FAQs

What is The Standard?

The Standard is a decentralized, over-collateralized stablecoin protocol on Arbitrum. Users open smart vaults, deposit collateral, and can borrow stablecoins such as USDs against it.

Does The Standard really charge 0% interest?

According to the homepage, borrowing USDs carries 0% interest, provided the vault keeps at least a 110% collateral ratio. The project does not describe the protocol's other fees, so check the docs and the dapp before opening a vault.

How does The Standard generate yield?

The homepage says collateral is placed into Uniswap V3 concentrated liquidity pools, earning trading fees that are auto-compounded. Users can split collateral between stable and volatile pools. The site notes that APYs are dynamic and that impermanent loss applies.

What is the TST token?

TST is the protocol's token, with a contract on Arbitrum. The homepage says staking TST can earn WBTC, ETH, ARB and other assets, though the specific mechanics and rates are not given publicly.

Is The Standard audited?

The homepage says the smart contracts were reviewed by more than 250 independent auditors through Cyfrin / CodeHawks, and DefiLlama lists two audits. Audits reduce risk but do not remove it, and the protocol's TVL is small.

Can I sell my loan on The Standard?

Each smart vault is a dynamic NFT that represents the vault's collateral and debt. The homepage says you can sell this NFT or send it to another wallet, and the new holder then controls the vault.
