ActiveLiqwid Finance Review 2026: Cardano Lending and Borrowing
Liqwid Finance is a non-custodial lending and borrowing protocol on Cardano with its own LQ token. It suits Cardano holders who want yield, but audit and fee details should be checked first.

Our verdict on Liqwid Finance
6.5/10Liqwid Finance suits Cardano holders who want to earn interest on assets or borrow against them without handing funds to a custodian. Its main strength is a non-custodial, open source lending design built for Cardano, with its own token and governance forum. The main caveat is risk transparency: fees and audits are not published in the material reviewed, and an emergency protocol was activated in October 2025. Check the current documentation and start small.

What is Liqwid Finance?
Liqwid Finance is an open source, algorithmic and non-custodial interest rate protocol built for lenders and borrowers on Cardano. It was developed by Liqwid Labs, which has announced funding rounds to bring the liquidity protocol to the Cardano network.
The protocol has its own token, LQ, a governance forum and a community that discusses rates, rewards and product questions. An earlier version of the app was available alongside newer releases.
On October 10-11, 2025, Liqwid Labs activated an emergency protocol, as described in a project announcement. Lenders should treat that as a reminder that smart-contract lending carries operational risk.
How Liqwid Finance works
Liqwid is a pooled lending protocol. Lenders deposit assets into a market and earn interest. Borrowers post collateral and draw loans from that pool. An interest rate curve sets the rate algorithmically, so borrowing costs rise when demand is high and fall when it is low.
Because loans are overcollateralised, a borrower whose collateral value falls too far can be liquidated. That keeps the pool solvent in normal conditions. Everything runs through smart contracts on Cardano rather than through a company holding user funds.
The LQ token is the protocol's own asset and ties into governance and incentives. The exact reward rules are set by the project and can change, so they are worth checking in its documentation and forum.
6 features
Key features
01
Lending markets
Users can supply assets to markets and earn interest that adjusts with demand for borrowing.
02
Collateralised borrowing
Borrowers lock collateral and take out loans from the pooled liquidity, without a counterparty negotiation.
03
Algorithmic interest rates
The protocol is described as algorithmic, with an interest rate curve setting rates rather than a central party.
04
Non-custodial design
Users keep control of funds through their own wallet and interact with smart contracts directly.
05
LQ token and governance
The protocol has its own LQ token, which can be staked through different providers, and an open governance forum for community discussion.
06
Cardano-native build
The project is described as open source and was built for Cardano by Liqwid Labs after funding rounds.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Non-custodial design, so users keep control of funds through their own wallet
- Native to Cardano, where lending options are limited
- Open source and algorithmic rate model
- Dedicated governance forum and an active community
- Backed by Liqwid Labs, which has announced funding rounds
- Own token (LQ) with several staking providers
Watch out for
- The project does not publish audit details in the material reviewed, so contract-risk assurance is unclear
- An emergency protocol was activated on October 10-11, 2025, which shows the system can hit conditions that need manual intervention
- Community discussion has questioned how rewards are allocated, so incentive terms need checking before relying on advertised yields
- Fee schedules, reserve factors and liquidation penalties are not stated in the reviewed material
- Liquidity and activity are tied to the Cardano ecosystem, which is smaller than Ethereum's lending markets
- The LQ token price moves with the market, so governance and reward value can change quickly
Liqwid Finance fees
Liqwid does not publish a fee schedule in the material reviewed. As with most lending protocols, the main cost to borrowers is the borrow interest rate, and lenders earn a share of it. Protocols of this type may also keep a reserve cut.
Network transaction fees on Cardano apply to each action. Current supply and borrow rates, and any other charges, are shown in the app for each market and should be checked before depositing.
Is Liqwid Finance safe?
Liqwid is non-custodial, so there is no exchange holding deposits. The main risks are smart-contract bugs, oracle or liquidation issues, and governance decisions. The project does not publish audit details in the material reviewed, so check its documentation for audit reports before depositing.
Liqwid Labs activated an emergency protocol on October 10-11, 2025. Read the project's own account of the cause and the fix. The project does not publish a regulatory or licensing status in the material reviewed. Never deposit more than you can afford to lose.
6 steps
How to get started with Liqwid Finance
- 1
Set up a Cardano-compatible wallet and keep a small amount of ADA for transaction fees
- 2
Open the Liqwid app from the official project channels and check the address carefully
- 3
Connect the wallet and review the available markets, rates and collateral rules
- 4
Start with a small supply to see how deposits, interest and withdrawals work
- 5
If borrowing, keep a safe margin above the liquidation threshold and monitor your position
- 6
Follow the governance forum and project announcements for protocol updates and incidents
Who Liqwid Finance is for
Liqwid is for Cardano users comfortable with DeFi who want to lend ADA or other assets for yield, or borrow against collateral. It is less suitable for beginners who do not understand liquidation risk or for anyone who needs documented audits and fee tables before using a protocol.
Liqwid Finance FAQs
What is Liqwid Finance?
Liqwid Finance is an open source, algorithmic and non-custodial interest rate protocol for lenders and borrowers. It is built by Liqwid Labs and runs on Cardano. Users supply assets to earn interest or borrow against collateral.
Is Liqwid Finance safe?
The project describes itself as non-custodial, meaning users keep control through their own wallet and interact with smart contracts. That removes exchange custody risk but adds smart-contract risk. The project does not publish audit details in the material reviewed, so check its documentation.
Which blockchain does Liqwid run on?
Liqwid is built for the Cardano network, and a Cardano-compatible wallet is needed to use it. Borrowing and lending are done through the web app connected to that wallet.
What is the LQ token?
LQ is the protocol's own token. Liqwid also has a governance forum and the LQ token can be staked through various providers, with rates varying by provider. The project's own documentation should be the reference for how LQ is used in governance and rewards.
What interest rates does Liqwid pay?
Rates on this type of protocol are set by an interest rate curve that responds to supply and demand, so they change over time. No fixed rate is published in the reviewed material. Current rates are shown inside the app for each market.
What was the October 2025 emergency protocol activation?
Liqwid Labs activated its emergency protocol on October 10-11, 2025, according to a protocol announcement. Anyone lending or borrowing should read the project's own account of what happened and what changed afterward.
