Larix is a Solana lending and borrowing protocol that launched with LARIX token rewards and two listed audits. Its docs are two years old and community posts question whether it is still maintained, so treat it with caution.

Our verdict on Larix

4.3/10

Larix is a Solana lending protocol with a documented interest rate model, liquidation design, LARIX rewards and two listed audits. Its main strength is that the mechanics and risks are clearly written down. The main caveat is activity: the docs are about two years old, TVL is small at roughly $1.1 million, and community posts say it looks abandoned. It suits researchers curious about early Solana DeFi, not users seeking a maintained lending venue. Verify current on-chain activity before committing funds.

What is Larix?

Larix describes itself as the first Metaverse-based finance protocol on Solana. In practice it is a lending and borrowing market for SPL tokens, with plans to accept synthetic assets, NFTs and other asset types as collateral. DefiLlama lists it under Lending on Solana.

The docs claim several firsts on Solana: live mining functionality, an audit, and partial open-sourcing. The project also says it was encouraged by the Solana team and aims to be a lending gateway for Solana, Raydium and Serum.

Current signals are mixed. DefiLlama shows about $1.13 million in TVL, down 4.9% over seven days, and lists two audits. However, the docs were last updated about two years ago, and a Reddit thread asks what happened to the project, saying it looks abandoned. Search snippets also show a very low LARIX price and volume.

The project does not confirm a shutdown, so the status is unclear. Anyone considering Larix should verify current activity themselves.

How Larix works

Larix is a pool-based lending protocol. Users deposit tokens into a shared pool and earn interest, while borrowers take loans from that pool by posting collateral. Interest rates are set by a dynamic model that responds to pool conditions.

If a borrower's collateral value falls too far relative to their loan, the position can be liquidated to protect lenders. The docs have a section on the design and principles of liquidation. Suppliers and borrowers also earn LARIX tokens as an incentive on top of interest.

The long-term pitch was to extend collateral beyond standard SPL tokens to synthetic assets, NFTs and real-world receivables. The project does not show how much of that was built.

6 features

Key features

01

Dynamic interest rates

The docs describe a dynamic interest rate model, so supply and borrow rates move with pool conditions instead of staying fixed.

02

LARIX mining rewards

Suppliers and borrowers can earn LARIX token rewards on top of interest, with different token pools receiving different incentives.

03

Pool-based lending

Larix uses pool-based collateral and a dynamic ratio optimizer to allow instant loans.

04

Broad collateral ambitions

The docs say Larix aims to accept SPL tokens, stablecoins, synthetic assets, NFTs and other asset types such as receivables.

05

Documented risk framework

The docs include sections on liquidation design, access controls, a risk framework, asset risk and liquidity risk.

06

Developer documentation

The docs list mainnet and devnet sections plus API instructions and queries for developers.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Clear documentation covering interest rates, liquidation design, access controls and risk.
  • Two audits are listed on DefiLlama, and the docs include an audits section.
  • Dynamic interest rate model and LARIX rewards give suppliers and borrowers extra incentives.
  • Runs on Solana, where transaction costs are generally low.
  • Partially open-sourced, according to the docs.

Watch out for

  • Documentation was last updated about two years ago, which suggests slow or stalled development.
  • A Reddit thread asks what happened to the project and says it looks abandoned; the project does not show an official response.
  • TVL is small at about $1.1 million and fell 4.9% over seven days.
  • The LARIX token trades at a tiny price and very low volume according to search snippets, so liquidity for exiting is thin.
  • The metaverse, NFT and receivables collateral vision is described in the docs, but the project does not show it was delivered.
  • No fee schedule appears, so borrowing and supply costs cannot be checked here.

Larix fees

Fees are not published publicly available here. The docs have an Interest Rate Model section and a Mathematics section where borrow and supply rates are explained, and users would see live rates in the Larix app if it is running.

On Solana, users also pay network transaction fees. Liquidation penalties, if any, are described in the docs section on liquidation design; the project does not give figures.

Is Larix safe?

DefiLlama lists two audits, and the docs have an External Audits and Analysis section, though the project does not name the auditors or findings. The docs also cover access controls and a risk framework. Lending protocols still carry smart-contract risk, oracle risk and liquidation risk, and audits do not remove them.

The larger concern is maintenance. The docs were last updated about two years ago, and community posts ask whether the project was abandoned. An unmaintained lending protocol can carry risks such as stale parameters or unpatched bugs. No hack or incident is stated publicly, and no regulatory status is given.

6 steps

How to get started with Larix

  1. 1

Read the docs sections on the Interest Rate Model, Liquidation and Risk Framework before depositing anything.

  2. 2

Look at recent on-chain activity and the project's social channels to confirm the protocol is still maintained.

  3. 3

Read the external audit reports linked in the docs and note what they cover.

  4. 4

Set up a Solana wallet and fund it with a small amount of SOL for transaction fees.

  5. 5

If the app is live, start with a small test deposit and check that withdrawals work.

  6. 6

Keep borrowing well below the liquidation threshold and monitor positions, since collateral can be liquidated.

Who Larix is for

Larix is mainly for researchers and experienced Solana DeFi users who want to study an early lending protocol and who can check on-chain activity and audit reports themselves. It is a poor fit for newcomers or anyone who needs a reliably maintained venue for borrowing or earning yield.

Larix FAQs

What is Larix?

Larix is a lending and borrowing protocol on Solana. Users supply assets to earn interest and can borrow against collateral, with LARIX token rewards on top. DefiLlama lists it in the Lending category.

Is Larix still active?

The project does not confirm a shutdown. DefiLlama still shows about $1.1 million in TVL, but the docs were last updated about two years ago and a Reddit thread says the protocol looks abandoned. Check recent on-chain activity before using it.

What is the LARIX token used for?

LARIX is the protocol's native token. The docs say users who supply or borrow can receive LARIX rewards in addition to interest, and a MEXC airdrop promotion appears in public reporting. Price and volume snippets suggest very low trading activity.

Has Larix been audited?

DefiLlama lists two audits, and the docs have an External Audits and Analysis section. The project does not name the auditors or give results, so read the audit reports directly. An audit does not remove smart-contract risk.

Which blockchain does Larix run on?

Larix runs on Solana only, according to the DefiLlama data.

How are interest rates set on Larix?

Rates are set by a dynamic interest rate model that the docs describe in an Interest Rate Model section. Actual current rates are not public, so check the app or docs if they are available.
