Our verdict on Hydro Lending

5.8/10

Hydro Lending suits DeFi users already active on Injective who want to earn interest on USDC or INJ-based assets, or borrow against them. Its main strength is native integration with the Injective ecosystem and the hINJ liquid staking token. The main caveat is the lack of published audits and sparse project information, so users should treat it as higher risk, size positions carefully and read the documentation before depositing.

What is Hydro Lending?

Hydro Lending is a decentralized, non-custodial money market on the Injective network. It is part of the Hydro Protocol suite, which also includes a liquid staking token, farming and a looped staking product.

DeFiLlama tracks it from June 2025, with roughly $5.4 million in total value locked and a small weekly change of about -1.1 percent. Social posts describe it as Injective's answer to Aave and Compound, and report support for native USDC deposits earning a floating rate.

The protocol's own homepage shows little more than its name. Audits, team details and fee parameters are not published there, and no audits are listed in the tracking data.

How Hydro Lending works

Hydro Lending works like other money markets. Depositors put assets into shared pools and earn interest. Borrowers take loans from those pools by posting other assets as collateral.

Interest rates float with usage: when more of a pool is borrowed, rates rise to attract deposits and discourage borrowing. If a borrower's collateral falls too far in value relative to the loan, it can be liquidated to protect lenders.

The protocol runs on Injective, and the broader Hydro suite adds a liquid staking token, hINJ, that can be used as collateral or in farming and Loop Stake products.

6 features

Key features

01

Floating-rate deposits

Users supply assets to earn a floating interest rate that moves with market demand.

02

Collateralized borrowing

Deposited assets can serve as collateral for borrowing, as in other money markets.

03

Native USDC support

Native USDC on Injective is reported as supported for deposits and collateral.

04

hINJ liquid staking token

hINJ is a 1:1 liquid staking token for INJ that can be used across Hydro's lending, farming and Loop Stake products.

05

Part of Hydro suite

Lending is one product within the Hydro Protocol suite, which also covers farming and staking loops.

06

Non-custodial design

Described as non-custodial, so users keep control of their keys and interact through smart contracts.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Non-custodial design where users hold their own keys
  • Runs on Injective, which offers low fees and fast finality
  • Native USDC deposits earn a floating interest rate
  • hINJ liquid staking token integrates with lending, farming and Loop Stake
  • About $5.4 million in TVL shows some real usage
  • Fits into a broader suite for users who already stay within Hydro

Watch out for

  • No audits are listed in the DeFiLlama data, and the project does not publish audit reports on the pages reviewed
  • Limited to the Injective network, so liquidity and asset choice depend on that ecosystem
  • The HDRO token trades on only a few markets with very low reported volume
  • Team, governance details and risk parameters are not published on the homepage
  • Smart-contract, oracle and liquidation risks apply as with any money market
  • The homepage shows little beyond the project name, so documentation must be found elsewhere

Hydro Lending fees

Hydro Lending's fee schedule is not published on the homepage or in the tracking data. In a money market, borrowers pay a variable interest rate and suppliers receive most of it, with a portion typically retained by the protocol as a reserve.

Users also pay Injective network gas on each transaction. Current rates, reserve factors and any liquidation penalties should be checked inside the app before borrowing.

Is Hydro Lending safe?

No audits are listed for Hydro Lending, and the homepage does not link to audit reports. Users cannot verify code reviews from the sources reviewed, which raises smart-contract risk. The protocol is relatively new, listed since mid-2025.

Like all lending markets, it carries oracle risk, liquidation risk and the possibility of bad debt in a sharp price drop. One post announces a closed investment round, but investor names and terms are not stated here. No hacks or incidents appear in the information reviewed. Start with small amounts and read the official documentation first.

6 steps

How to get started with Hydro Lending

  1. 1

Get a wallet that supports Injective and fund it with INJ for gas.

  2. 2

Open the Hydro app and connect the wallet.

  3. 3

Review the markets, supply rates, borrow rates and collateral factors shown for each asset.

  4. 4

Supply an asset such as USDC to start earning a floating rate, or choose to stake INJ for hINJ.

  5. 5

If borrowing, keep the loan well below the liquidation threshold and monitor it regularly.

  6. 6

Withdraw or repay from the same interface when you want to exit.

Who Hydro Lending is for

Hydro Lending is for DeFi users who already use Injective and want a native place to lend stablecoins or borrow against INJ-related assets. It also suits people interested in the hINJ liquid staking token. Users who require published audits and detailed documentation before depositing may prefer to wait.

Hydro Lending FAQs

What is Hydro Lending?

Hydro Lending is a decentralized, non-custodial money market on the Injective network. Users supply assets to earn interest and can borrow against collateral. It is one part of the Hydro Protocol DeFi suite.

Which blockchain does Hydro Lending use?

It runs on Injective, a Cosmos-based chain. No other networks are listed for the lending product.

What is the HDRO token?

HDRO is the Hydro Protocol token. A tokenomics write-up describes it as a means of payment and settlement between participants in the ecosystem. The exact utility in the lending market is not detailed on the homepage.

What is hINJ?

Hydro's liquid staking token for INJ, called hINJ, is described as a 1:1 LST that can be used across Hydro for lending, farming and Loop Stake. Details of how it is backed should be checked in the protocol's own documentation.

Is Hydro Lending safe?

No audits are listed in the tracking data, and the homepage does not point to audit reports. Any money market carries smart-contract, oracle and liquidation risk, so users should only commit funds they can afford to lose.

Can I earn interest on USDC?

Reports say users can deposit USDC to earn a floating interest rate and also use it as collateral, and that native USDC is supported. Rates vary with supply and demand, so check the app for current figures.
