Our verdict on Brotocol

6.0/10

Brotocol suits Bitcoin holders who want to swap, bridge or spend BTC across layer-2 networks like Stacks, Merlin or BOB without assembling routes by hand. Its main strength is a clear focus on Bitcoin liquidity, with native BTC-to-stablecoin swaps and broad network coverage. The main caveat is transparency: fees, audit scope and team details are not published in the sources reviewed, and BroSwap was still a public beta at last report. Test with small amounts and check the quote carefully.

What is Brotocol?

Brotocol is a Bitcoin-centric DeFi platform that aggregates liquidity across Bitcoin layer-2 networks. Its homepage describes infrastructure that lets Bitcoin users reach DeFi functions without leaving their native environment, with Bitcoin kept as the settlement layer.

The product set includes BroBridge for cross-chain transfers, BroSwap for swaps such as native BTC to stablecoins, and BroPay for payments. A public beta of BroSwap was announced in April 2025. The project has been listed on DeFi trackers since June 2024.

DeFi data places it in the bridge aggregator category and lists support for Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Core, Mode, X Layer, B2, BOB, AILayer, Stacks and Merlin. No TVL figure is available and the project has no token of its own. The team, fee schedule and audit scope are not published in the sources reviewed.

How Brotocol works

Bitcoin itself has limited native smart-contract features, so a growing set of layer-2 networks and sidechains has emerged to host DeFi for BTC holders. Liquidity on these networks is split across many small venues. An aggregator like Brotocol sits on top and routes a user's trade or transfer to wherever it can be completed.

BroBridge moves value between Bitcoin-linked networks and other chains such as Ethereum and BNB Chain. BroSwap targets swaps, including native BTC to stablecoins, so a user can exit volatility without first wrapping BTC on another chain. BroPay is described as the payments layer, letting users spend from their Bitcoin-side balance.

The homepage frames the design as keeping Bitcoin as the secure settlement layer while letting users reach the wider crypto market. The exact routing logic, bridge trust model and validator or relayer setup are not described in the sources reviewed.

6 features

Key features

01

Bitcoin L2 liquidity aggregation

Brotocol routes liquidity across several Bitcoin layer-2 networks so users can reach DeFi without hunting for each venue separately.

02

BroBridge cross-chain transfers

BroBridge handles cross-chain transfers that connect Bitcoin with other networks, including Ethereum and BNB Chain.

03

BroSwap native BTC swaps

BroSwap offers native BTC-to-stablecoin swaps. It was released as a public beta in April 2025.

04

BroPay payments

BroPay is the project's payments product, aimed at spending or sending value from Bitcoin-based balances.

05

Wide network coverage

Listings cover eleven networks, including Stacks, Merlin, BOB, Core and Mode, so one interface spans a fragmented ecosystem.

06

Bitcoin as settlement layer

The stated design keeps Bitcoin as the secure settlement layer while giving access to wider crypto markets.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Focuses on a real gap: moving and swapping BTC across fragmented Bitcoin layer-2 networks.
  • Covers eleven networks, including Stacks, Merlin, BOB and Core, plus Ethereum and BNB Chain.
  • Offers native BTC-to-stablecoin swaps through BroSwap rather than relying only on wrapped assets.
  • Has no token, so there is no token-price exposure or emissions to evaluate.
  • One audit is listed on DeFi data, which is a better starting point than none.

Watch out for

  • Fees, slippage and routing costs are not published in the sources reviewed, so total cost is hard to judge before a trade.
  • Only one audit is listed and its scope, auditor and findings are not described here.
  • Bridging and cross-chain swaps add smart-contract and bridge-operator risk, especially across younger Bitcoin L2s.
  • The BroSwap product was announced as a public beta in April 2025, and a general-release date is not stated.
  • No TVL figure and no team or company details are published in the sources reviewed, which limits due diligence.
  • Many of the supported networks are small, so liquidity depth on some routes may be thin.

Brotocol fees

Brotocol does not publish a fee schedule in the sources reviewed. There is no stated swap fee, bridge fee or routing charge.

In practice, users should expect the usual components: the underlying network fee on each chain, any spread or slippage on the swap, and possible bridge charges. These should be visible in the quote screen of the app before a transaction is confirmed.

Is Brotocol safe?

DeFi data lists one audit for Brotocol, but the auditor, date and findings are not described in the sources reviewed. Treat this as a positive signal, not a guarantee. No hack or exploit is mentioned in the sources reviewed.

Bridges and cross-chain swaps are among the most exposed categories in crypto, because they depend on contracts and relayers across several chains, many of them young. Users keep custody in their own wallet until they submit a transaction, but funds in transit carry bridge risk. Use small amounts first and verify the official domain, as one tracker warns about fake tokens carrying the Brotocol name.

6 steps

How to get started with Brotocol

  1. 1

Open the official Brotocol site and read which networks and products are currently live, noting that BroSwap was in public beta at last report.

  2. 2

Confirm you are on the real domain and bookmark it, since fake tokens and look-alike sites exist for similarly named projects.

  3. 3

Connect a compatible Bitcoin or EVM wallet that supports the network you want to start from.

  4. 4

Request a small test quote for a swap or bridge route and review the amount received, network fees and any slippage.

  5. 5

Execute a small transaction first and confirm it arrives on the destination chain before moving larger amounts.

  6. 6

Keep records of transaction hashes in case you need to track a delayed cross-chain transfer.

Who Brotocol is for

Brotocol is for Bitcoin holders and DeFi users who already use, or want to try, Bitcoin layer-2 networks and need a single place to bridge and swap between them. It is less suited to beginners who want audited, long-established infrastructure with published fees.
