What Open Campus is
Open Campus is a community-led protocol that describes itself as building financial and credentialing infrastructure for education. The idea is to give educators, learners and institutions a shared, open set of tools on a blockchain. Those tools cover issuing verifiable credentials, access to on-chain education finance (which the project calls EduFi), and a base for consumer education apps.
The project is run through the Open Campus DAO. Its project description names Animoca Brands, TinyTap, NewCampus, RiseIn and HackQuest among the core contributors. Each is an education or Web3 learning company that works with the DAO on products and funding.
EDU is the project's token. At the time of writing it ranks around 485 by market capitalisation, which puts it among smaller assets. It is also tagged in market data as part of the Education category, the BNB Chain, Ethereum and Polygon ecosystems, and as a Binance Launchpad project backed by YZi Labs, formerly Binance Labs. Those labels describe how the token is classified, not how well it performs.
What EDU is used for
According to the project's user documentation, EDU is the governance token of the Open Campus DAO and also the native gas token of EDU Chain. Gas is the fee paid to have a transaction processed, so anyone using applications on that chain needs some EDU to pay for activity.
As a governance token, EDU is meant to give holders a say in how the DAO works. Typical decisions in this kind of setup include funding proposals and ecosystem priorities. The specific voting rules and thresholds are set by the DAO, so check its own documentation for current details.
EDU Chain is described as a network designed to bring real-world education economies on-chain and host education-focused decentralized applications. Open Campus ID, announced in January 2024, is a related product aimed at giving learners and institutions a portable identity and credential record.
Earlier marketing material from 2023 suggested EDU could also pay for courses and learning content and reward creators. Treat those as stated goals rather than proven demand, and look at what live apps actually accept today.
Supply and tokenomics
EDU has a fixed maximum supply of 1 billion tokens, and the total supply matches that figure. As of 2026-11-05, about 860.7 million EDU were circulating, roughly 86% of the maximum. That leaves around 139 million tokens not yet in circulation.
The gap shows up in valuation figures. At about $0.0514 per token as of 2026-11-05, the market capitalisation was roughly $44.2 million, while the fully diluted valuation, which assumes all 1 billion tokens exist, was about $51.4 million. The 24-hour trading volume was about $1.5 million.
The data available here does not include a detailed allocation breakdown or an unlock calendar. That means how the remaining tokens are split between the team, investors, the DAO treasury and community programmes is not covered on this page. Anyone assessing the token should read the official tokenomics documentation to see who holds what and when further tokens may be released, because scheduled releases can add selling pressure.
Chains and how it is held and traded
EDU is issued on three chains: BNB Chain, Arbitrum and Ethereum. It also functions as the gas token of the project's own EDU Chain, according to the project documentation. The same asset can therefore exist in different forms on different networks, and tokens usually move between them through bridges.
In general terms, people hold EDU in a self-custody wallet that supports the chain in question, or leave it on an exchange account. It trades on centralised exchanges, with Binance being one prominent venue mentioned in public guides, and potentially on decentralized exchanges on the chains above.
Practical points to keep in mind:
- Check which network a token is on before you send it. Sending EDU to an address on the wrong chain can make it hard or impossible to recover.
- Confirm the official contract address from the project's own channels, because copycat tokens use similar names.
- Bridging adds an extra step and an extra layer of smart-contract risk.
- Liquidity differs by venue, so large orders on thin markets can move the price.
History and notable events
EDU reached an all-time high of about $1.67 on 2023-04-29, around the time it was listed through Binance Launchpad. Since then the price has fallen heavily. As of 2026-11-05 it was roughly 11% lower over seven days and about 67% lower over one year, and it recorded an all-time low of about $0.0253 on 2026-06-10. The current price of about $0.0514 sits well above that low but far below the peak.
Other notable events in the public record include the January 2024 launch of Open Campus ID, which was presented as a way to help students, educators and institutions carry credentials and learning records. EDU Chain was later developed as the project's own network, and the token took on its role as gas on that chain.
The exact launch date is not given in the data used for this page, so it is not stated here. For a full timeline, consult the project's announcements and the DAO's governance records.
Risks to understand
EDU carries the usual risks of a small-cap crypto token, plus some specific to its category.
- Price volatility. A drop of roughly two-thirds in a year and a market value in the tens of millions show how sharply the price can move. Daily volume of about $1.5 million means thin liquidity at times.
- Adoption risk. The token's value depends partly on whether education apps, institutions and learners actually use EDU Chain and the credential tools. Education is a slow-moving sector with long sales cycles.
- Supply risk. About 14% of the maximum supply was not yet circulating as of 2026-11-05. Future releases could weigh on the market.
- Governance risk. Token-based voting can be dominated by large holders, and DAO decisions may not suit smaller participants.
- Technical and bridge risk. Multiple chains mean bridges and contracts that can fail or be exploited.
- Scams. Fake airdrops and look-alike tokens regularly target projects with recognisable names.
Nothing here is investment advice, and no price direction is implied. Only consider amounts you could afford to lose.
How to store EDU safely
How you store EDU depends on how much you hold and how you plan to use it.
For longer-term holding, a self-custody wallet gives you control of the keys. A hardware wallet that supports Ethereum-compatible networks is a common choice, because EDU on Ethereum, Arbitrum and BNB Chain all use the same address format. Write your recovery phrase on paper or metal, keep it offline, and never type it into a website or share it with anyone, including people claiming to be support staff.
Before sending a large amount, send a small test transaction and confirm it arrives on the right network. Add the token to your wallet using the contract address published by the project, not one from a social media reply or a search advertisement.
If you use an exchange, remember that you rely on the platform's security and withdrawal policies. Turn on two-factor authentication with an authenticator app, use a unique password, and withdraw to your own wallet if you do not need the funds on the exchange. Review token approvals on decentralized apps occasionally and revoke ones you no longer need.
By the numbers
Open Campus in numbers
Open Campus (EDU) is ranked #489 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $42.7M and a price of $0.0496 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $49.6M, so roughly 86% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.
The price was down 7.0% over 7 days, down 19.4% over 30 days, down 69.0% over the past year. It trades about 97% below its all-time high of $1.67, set on Apr 29, 2023.
About 860.75M EDU are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (86% issued).
24-hour trading volume was about $1.96M, or 4.6% of its market cap: moderate turnover.
EDU has token contracts on 3 chains we track, including BNB Chain, Arbitrum, Ethereum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.
