What BUIDL is

BUIDL is the token for the BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund, a tokenized money-market-style fund from BlackRock. Each token represents a share in a fund that invests in cash, short-dated U.S. Treasury bills and repurchase agreements. The aim is to give investors U.S. dollar yield with a token that stays close to one dollar.

Securitize, a tokenization platform, handles the onchain side of the product, including issuing and recording the tokens. Because it is a regulated fund product rather than a typical crypto project, BUIDL has no governance system, no mining or staking, and no development team selling a roadmap. Its value comes from the assets held by the fund.

It is built for institutional investors. Direct subscription and redemption go through approved channels with onboarding checks and a high minimum investment, so most retail users will not be able to buy it straight from the issuer. In our categories it sits under real-world asset (RWA) tokens, and it is commonly grouped with tokenized Treasuries.

What the token is used for

The main use is as a place to hold dollars that earn a Treasury-style return while staying onchain. Treasuries, crypto firms and other institutions can hold BUIDL instead of idle stablecoins or bank balances, and the fund aims to let holders redeem at about one dollar per token.

A second use is collateral. Public reporting from November 2025 report that Binance began accepting BUIDL as off-exchange collateral for trading. That lets a holder keep earning yield on the fund while the position backs a trade. Other platforms have explored similar arrangements, but you should check the current list of accepted venues rather than assume it.

A third use is as a building block for other products. Some stablecoin and yield projects have used tokenized Treasury funds as reserve or backing assets. The token has no function beyond representing the fund share. It does not grant votes, fee rebates or access to a separate ecosystem.

Supply and tokenomics

BUIDL has no fixed maximum supply, because supply grows and shrinks as investors subscribe and redeem. Tokens are created when money goes into the fund and removed when it comes out. At the time of writing, as of 2026-11-05, circulating and total supply were both about 1.90 billion tokens, which matches a market capitalization of about $1.90 billion. The market cap ranked around 49th in the data used for this page.

The price is designed to sit at $1, and the data shows an all-time high and low of $1.00 with no movement over 7 days or one year. That flat line reflects the design: the token is meant to hold a stable value, and the fund's yield is generally passed on as extra tokens or distributions rather than a rising price. Confirm the exact distribution method in the fund's documents.

There is no team allocation, vesting schedule or inflation emission, since these are not features of a fund share. Daily trading volume was not available in the data, which is common for tokens that mostly move through issuer channels.

Chains and how it is held and traded

BUIDL is issued on several networks: Ethereum, Optimism, Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Solana, Polygon, Aptos and Tempo. Having multiple chains lets institutions hold it where their other assets and applications already are.

Holding works differently from a normal token. Transfers are usually restricted to wallets that have passed the issuer's approval process, often called an allowlist. A random wallet generally cannot receive BUIDL, and a transfer to a non-approved address may fail.

Trading is also limited. Most activity is subscription and redemption with the issuer or approved intermediaries, plus transfers between approved institutions and collateral arrangements with certain exchanges. Public decentralized exchange liquidity is thin or absent compared with a stablecoin. Some related products wrap or reference BUIDL to give broader access, but those are separate instruments with their own terms and risks.

History and notable events

The data does not give a confirmed launch date for BUIDL, so this page does not state one. What is publicly known is that BlackRock announced the fund together with Securitize as a tokenized Treasury product and that it grew quickly into one of the largest tokenized Treasury funds. The price history in the data begins in early 2025, but that reflects when tracking began, not necessarily the fund's start.

Notable events include the expansion from Ethereum to many other chains, which broadened where holders can use it. In November 2025, reports said Binance would accept BUIDL as off-exchange collateral, an example of a traditional-finance fund share being used inside crypto trading infrastructure.

BUIDL is often cited as evidence that large asset managers are willing to put regulated funds onchain. Even so, its supply has moved with institutional demand, and the figure of about $1.90 billion as of 2026-11-05 is a snapshot that can change quickly.

Risks to understand

BUIDL is not a risk-free dollar. The fund's holdings are low-risk, but the product still carries several risks.

  • Fund and market risk: Treasury bills and repos are very safe, but returns vary with interest rates, and a fund share is not an insured bank deposit.
  • Counterparty risk: Repurchase agreements depend on the counterparty, and the structure relies on the issuer, the fund administrator and Securitize.
  • Redemption and access risk: Redemption runs through approved channels and may have cut-off times or processing delays. Many users cannot redeem directly.
  • Transfer restrictions: Allowlists can block transfers, and a wallet could be restricted if it fails compliance checks.
  • Smart contract and chain risk: Each chain deployment relies on contract code and the security of the network and any bridging used.
  • Regulatory risk: Rules for tokenized funds differ by country and may change, affecting who can hold it.
  • Liquidity risk: Thin public markets mean a market price could drift from the net asset value in stressed conditions.

How to store it safely

Because BUIDL is permissioned, storage is mostly about using an approved wallet. Check which wallet types and addresses the issuer or your platform supports before sending anything, since an unsupported address can lock up or fail a transfer.

Institutions typically use custodians or multi-signature wallets with several approvers. Individuals who qualify should consider a hardware wallet for the keys that control the approved address, and should keep the recovery phrase offline and never type it into a website or share it.

Good habits include sending a small test transfer first, confirming you are on the correct chain, bookmarking official sites, and being wary of anyone offering BUIDL outside the approval process. Scams may use fake tokens with a similar name, so verify the contract address through the issuer's official documentation. If you hold BUIDL through an exchange or custodian, you rely on that provider's security and terms, so read how your holdings are segregated and how redemptions work.

BUIDL FAQs

What is BUIDL?

BUIDL is a share in a BlackRock fund, tokenized by Securitize, that invests in cash, Treasury bills and repurchase agreements. It is designed to trade near one dollar and give institutional investors dollar yield onchain.

Can anyone buy BUIDL?

Not directly, in most cases. The fund is aimed at institutional investors, with onboarding checks, a high minimum investment and transfer restrictions. Retail users may only reach it indirectly through other platforms or products, which carry their own terms.

Why is the BUIDL price always $1?

It is designed to stay at $1, and the data shows no price movement over the past year. That stability comes from the fund's holdings and redemption mechanism, but it is not a guarantee, and market prices could differ from net asset value under stress.

Which blockchains is BUIDL on?

The data lists Ethereum, Optimism, Arbitrum, Avalanche, BNB Chain, Solana, Polygon, Aptos and Tempo. Availability and transfer rules depend on the issuer's approved wallets on each chain.

Is BUIDL an investment that can go up in price?

No. It is a stable, fund-backed token, so the aim is to preserve value and earn Treasury-style yield rather than rise in price. It is not a growth asset, and this page does not give buy or sell advice.

What are the main risks of BUIDL?

Its main risks are counterparty exposure, issuer and platform dependence, redemption limits, transfer restrictions, smart contract risk and changing regulation. It is not a bank deposit and is not insured like one.

As of Nov 7, 2026, BlackRock USD Institutional Digital Liquidity Fund had a market cap of about $1.78B, ranking #54 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
