ActiveThala CDP Review 2026: Borrowing Move Dollar on Aptos
Thala CDP lets users borrow Move Dollar (MOD), an over-collateralized stablecoin, against crypto collateral on Aptos. It is one part of a wider Thala suite, and the CDP module itself holds modest TVL.

Our verdict on Thala CDP
Thala CDP suits Aptos users who want to borrow a decentralized, over-collateralized stablecoin without selling their crypto, and who like having trading, staking and borrowing under one app. Its main strengths are the listed Zellic and OtterSec audits and the broader product suite. The main caveat is size: the CDP module holds modest TVL, the protocol lives on a single chain, and borrowers must manage liquidation risk themselves. Check the current rates and parameters in the docs before opening a position.

What is Thala CDP?
Thala CDP is the borrowing side of Thala Labs' DeFi protocol on Aptos. Users lock collateral and mint Move Dollar (MOD), a decentralized, over-collateralized stablecoin. The protocol is written in Move and has been listed since April 2023.
The CDP sits within a broader suite. Thala also runs a rebalancing AMM, liquidity pools, liquid staking and a spot launchpad. The homepage reports about $16.1 million in total value locked across the platform, more than $12.4 billion in cumulative volume and 652,340 total users. Those are the project's own figures. The CDP module on its own is listed with about $431,000 in TVL.
Thala names Zellic and OtterSec as auditors, Pyth and Switchboard as oracles, and LayerZero and Wormhole as bridges. It also describes Thala Foundry, an incubator run in partnership with the Aptos foundation. The THL token is the protocol's own token.
How Thala CDP works
A collateralized debt position (CDP) lets you lock crypto as collateral and borrow a stablecoin against it. On Thala, that stablecoin is Move Dollar (MOD). Because the collateral is worth more than the MOD you mint, the system stays backed even if prices move somewhat.
If collateral value falls too close to the debt, the position can be liquidated. Thala's borrowing section includes a Stability Pool, which in this type of design absorbs liquidated debt in return for collateral. Oracles such as Pyth and Switchboard supply the price data that drives these checks.
MOD can then be used elsewhere in the Thala ecosystem, for example in its rebalancing AMM, where liquidity providers earn from trading activity. The whole system is written in the Move language on Aptos.
7 features
Key features
01
Over-collateralized MOD minting
Users deposit supported assets as collateral and mint MOD against it. The homepage says users can borrow against dozens of assets.
02
Stability Pool
The borrowing section lists a Stability Pool alongside the CDP. Such pools generally hold stablecoins to absorb liquidated debt.
03
Rebalancing AMM
Thala also offers a rebalancing AMM for spot trading and liquidity provision, which gives MOD and other assets a place to trade.
04
Liquid staking and pools
The Earn section lists liquidity pools and liquid staking, so users can seek yield on holdings beyond borrowing.
05
Launchpad
A spot launchpad lets users trade and take part in new token launches on Aptos.
06
Oracles and audits listed
Switchboard and Pyth are listed as oracle partners, and Zellic and OtterSec as auditors.
07
Aptos wallet support
Petra, Pontem Network and MSafe are listed as supported wallets, covering both individual and multisig use.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Over-collateralized design means each MOD is backed by more collateral value than it represents.
- Audits by Zellic and OtterSec are listed on the homepage, with an audit page linked.
- Part of a broader Aptos DeFi suite covering trading, yield and borrowing.
- Uses two oracle providers, Pyth and Switchboard, rather than relying on one.
- Operating since 2023, with the project reporting hundreds of thousands of users.
Watch out for
- The CDP module's TVL is small, listed at roughly $431,000 with a 13.6% drop over seven days, so liquidity depth is limited.
- Runs only on Aptos, so users depend on one chain's health and ecosystem.
- Over-collateralized borrowing carries liquidation risk if collateral prices fall quickly.
- Relies on external oracles and bridges (Pyth, Switchboard, LayerZero, Wormhole), which add dependencies beyond the core contracts.
- Borrow rates, collateral ratios and liquidation penalties are not stated on the homepage, so users must check the app and docs.
- The team and legal entity details are not clearly published on the homepage.
Thala CDP fees
Thala does not publish a fee schedule on its homepage. Borrow rates, minting or stability fees, liquidation penalties and AMM swap fees are not stated.
Users would see current rates and collateral parameters inside the app and in the official docs before opening a position. Aptos network gas fees also apply to every transaction.
Is Thala CDP safe?
Thala lists audits from Zellic and OtterSec and links to an audit page, and it names Pyth and Switchboard as oracle providers. The homepage does not describe the scope of the audits or any bug bounty here, so read the reports before depositing. Smart contracts remain a risk even after audits.
Borrowers face liquidation risk, oracle risk and stablecoin risk if MOD trades away from its peg. Bridged assets add bridge risk. Positions are non-custodial in the usual DeFi sense, with users holding their own wallets. The homepage does not state the legal entity or team members, and none of this is financial advice. The CDP module's TVL is small, which can mean thinner liquidity during stress.
6 steps
How to get started with Thala CDP
- 1
Set up an Aptos wallet such as Petra, Pontem or MSafe and fund it with APT for gas.
- 2
Bring in collateral assets, using a bridge such as LayerZero or Wormhole if the assets are on another chain.
- 3
Open the official Thala app from the official website and go to the Borrow section.
- 4
Review the collateral ratio, borrow rate and liquidation threshold in the app and docs.
- 5
Deposit collateral and mint a conservative amount of MOD to keep a safety buffer.
- 6
Monitor the position and repay MOD or add collateral if prices move against you.
Who Thala CDP is for
Thala CDP is for Aptos users who already hold crypto assets, want stablecoin liquidity without selling, and understand liquidation risk. It also suits people who want to use MOD within Thala's AMM and liquid staking products. It is a poor fit for anyone who wants guaranteed returns or who is unfamiliar with managing collateral ratios.
Thala CDP FAQs
What is Thala CDP?
Thala CDP is the borrowing module of Thala, a DeFi protocol on Aptos. Users lock collateral and mint Move Dollar (MOD), an over-collateralized stablecoin, against it.
What is Move Dollar (MOD)?
MOD is the decentralized stablecoin minted through Thala's collateralized debt positions. It is backed by more collateral value than the MOD issued, so it is described as over-collateralized.
Has Thala been audited?
The homepage lists audits by Zellic and OtterSec and links to an audit page. An audit reduces risk but does not remove it, so smart-contract and market risk remain.
Which blockchain does Thala CDP use?
Thala CDP runs on Aptos only. Bridges such as LayerZero and Wormhole are listed as ecosystem partners for moving assets in.
What is the THL token?
THL is Thala's own token. Its homepage does not explain its role in detail, so check the official docs for current utility and vesting.
What happens if my collateral price drops?
If the value of your collateral falls too far relative to your MOD debt, the position can be liquidated and you can lose part of your collateral. The Stability Pool is part of Thala's borrowing system and helps absorb liquidations. Exact thresholds are in the docs.
