Sonne Finance Review 2026: Optimism Lending Protocol After an Exploit

Sonne Finance is a decentralized lending protocol on Optimism and Base, but its homepage currently warns that it was exploited and tells users not to interact with the site. Treat it as a cautionary profile, not a place to deposit.

Our verdict on Sonne Finance

3.0/10

Sonne Finance is a lending protocol on Optimism and Base with a conventional supply, borrow and reward design. Its main caveat is decisive: the homepage says it was exploited and asks users not to interact with the website until further notice. Its TVL is also very small. Nobody should deposit or borrow here without confirmed all-clear guidance from the project's official channels. Existing users should follow official updates, while newcomers are better served by established, audited lending markets.

What is Sonne Finance?

Sonne Finance is a decentralized lending protocol that lets individuals, institutions and other protocols deposit assets, use them as collateral and borrow against them. It describes itself as permissionless, open source and focused on Optimism, and the tracked data also lists Base.

The most important fact on the homepage is a disclaimer stating that Sonne Finance has been exploited recently and that users should not interact with the website until further notice. The lending interface is still visible, but the project's own message is a clear warning.

The tracked data lists a total value locked of about $55,900, the SONNE token, no listed audits and a listing date of October 2022. The homepage links to an audit page, GitHub, Medium, Discord, Telegram and Twitter. The project does not publish details of the exploit in its homepage.

How Sonne Finance works

Sonne Finance works like other on-chain money markets. Depositors supply assets to a shared pool and earn a variable interest rate. Borrowers take assets from that pool, paying interest, after locking up other assets as collateral.

Because crypto prices move quickly, borrowers must keep collateral worth more than what they borrow. If the collateral value falls too far, the position can be liquidated, which means part of the collateral is sold to repay the loan. Smart contracts handle this automatically, so correct pricing and contract code are central to safety.

Sonne also shows a reward APR on top of base rates, paid in its own SONNE token according to the tracked data. The interface additionally lists staking and swap pages, though its homepage does not explain how they work.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Clear, plain disclosure of the exploit on the homepage
  • Open source code with a public GitHub link
  • Standard supply and borrow design that is easy to understand
  • Shows supply APY, borrow APY and reward APR per asset
  • Active presence on Twitter, Discord and Telegram for updates

Watch out for

  • The homepage says the protocol was exploited and asks users not to interact with the website until further notice
  • Listed TVL is only about $55,900, which is very small for a lending market
  • No audits are listed in the tracked data, though the site links to an audit page
  • Rates, collateral factors and fees are not published on its homepage
  • Team, licensing and any compensation plan for affected users are not published
  • Lending protocols carry smart-contract, oracle and liquidation risk even when working normally

Sonne Finance fees

Sonne Finance does not publish a fee schedule in its homepage. Costs in a lending protocol usually come from the spread between supply and borrow rates, any reserve share taken by the protocol, liquidation penalties and network gas fees.

The lending tables show supply APY, borrow APY and reward APR per asset, so users would see live rates in the app. Because the site currently warns against interaction, those figures should not be relied on.

Is Sonne Finance safe?

The homepage states that Sonne Finance has been exploited and asks users not to interact with the site until further notice. That should settle the question for anyone considering a new deposit. The tracked data lists zero audits, although the site links to an audit page, and details of the exploit or any recovery plan are not in its homepage.

Lending protocols are non-custodial but depend on smart contracts and price feeds, so a bug or manipulation can drain funds. The project does not publish licensing or regulatory status. Only use official links, and treat any unsolicited recovery offers with suspicion.

5 steps

How to get started with Sonne Finance

  1. 1

Read the exploit disclaimer on the official homepage and check the project's official Twitter, Discord or Telegram for current status.

  2. 2

Do not connect a wallet or approve any token spending while the project advises against interacting with the site.

  3. 3

If you hold funds in the protocol, look for official guidance on withdrawals or recovery from the project's own channels only.

  4. 4

Review the linked documents, GitHub and audit page to understand how the markets were designed.

  5. 5

Be wary of unofficial links or messages claiming to offer refunds, since exploit events often attract scams.

Who Sonne Finance is for

This page is mainly for people who already hold positions in Sonne Finance, or who are researching the protocol after seeing it mentioned. It is not suited to new depositors or borrowers while the project's own warning remains in place.
