Merit Circle (Beam) Review 2026: From Gaming DAO to Frontier Lab

Merit Circle, the gaming DAO launched in 2021, now operates as Beam, an ecosystem and treasury-backed token project spanning trading apps, AI compute and gaming. It suits token holders who accept a broad, early-stage bet.

Our verdict on Merit Circle

6.2/10

Merit Circle, now Beam, suits crypto holders who want diversified exposure to a treasury-backed ecosystem across trading, AI compute and gaming, and who are comfortable with governance-driven projects. Its strength is the breadth of named projects and a token model built around value accrual and burns. The main caveat is that the project has changed focus several times, publishes little detail on audits, treasury composition and burn schedules, and the token remains a high-risk, speculative asset.

What is Merit Circle?

Merit Circle launched in 2021 as a DAO aimed at the play-to-earn gaming economy. It has since rebranded as Beam. Public reporting points to a gaming-focused subnet announced in 2023, expansion to Immutable zkEVM later that year, and a token swap and redenomination that October.

The official site now presents Beam as an innovation lab working across AI, trading and blockchain. It lists six divisions and a set of ecosystem projects, including the Dreamcash trading app, the Beam Ventures fund, the Aethir GPU network, the Tactical Compute joint venture, the Sophon gaming chain, the Noon stablecoin protocol and the TrialXtreme racing game.

The homepage claims about 250K holders and describes the BEAM token as the network's primary currency. Those figures are self-reported. The project is best seen as a token and treasury-backed ecosystem, not a single app with its own fees and yields.

How Merit Circle works

Beam started as Merit Circle, a DAO that pooled capital to support play-to-earn games and gaming assets. It later moved to a Beam brand and token, and the homepage now describes a foundation that builds, invests in and accelerates frontier technology projects.

The model centres on the BEAM token. The site says ecosystem value flows to the token, and a buy-and-burn mechanism reduces supply over time. A treasury funds incubation, investments and partnerships, and holders can vote on proposals through Snapshot.

The ecosystem is a mix of products. Dreamcash is a consumer trading app on Hyperliquid, Beam Ventures is a fund, Aethir provides decentralized GPU compute, and Sophon, Noon and TrialXtreme cover a gaming chain, a yield stablecoin and a mobile racing game. Beam's role varies from founder to investor to partner, so the token's performance rests on how well that portfolio and treasury perform.

7 features

Key features

01

Multi-project ecosystem

The ecosystem lists projects built, backed or incubated by Beam, including a trading app, a venture fund, a compute network and a gaming chain.

02

Token value capture

The homepage says all ecosystem value flows to the BEAM token and that a buy-and-burn mechanism lowers supply over time.

03

Foundation treasury

The site describes a crypto-native treasury that funds developers and ecosystem growth, with a treasury page linked for detail.

04

Venture fund and accelerator

Beam Ventures is described as a fund based in Abu Dhabi Global Market, licensed to manage a Qualified Investor Fund, with a Booster accelerator for early-stage founders.

05

Multi-chain availability

Beam says it is EVM compatible and available on Ethereum, Base and Avalanche, so holders are not tied to one network.

06

On-chain style governance

Token holders can participate and propose changes to the ecosystem, with voting run through a Snapshot page.

07

AI compute exposure

Exposure to AI and decentralized GPU compute comes through Aethir and the Tactical Compute joint venture, described as a $40M venture.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • Broad ecosystem with named products across trading, AI compute, stablecoins and gaming.
  • Clear token mechanics on paper: value accrual to the token, buy-and-burn and governance voting.
  • Multi-chain availability on Ethereum, Base and Avalanche.
  • Beam Ventures is described as licensed in Abu Dhabi Global Market to manage a Qualified Investor Fund.
  • Long track record since the 2021 Merit Circle launch, with a visible rebrand history.

Watch out for

  • Token value depends on ecosystem growth and a treasury whose holdings and valuation the homepage does not itemise.
  • The project has changed direction several times, from play-to-earn gaming DAO to gaming subnet to a broad innovation lab, so the focus is less clear.
  • Several ecosystem projects are partnerships or backed positions rather than Beam-run products, so exposure to them is indirect.
  • The homepage does not publish audit reports, team names or token supply figures.
  • Buy-and-burn is described only in general terms; the schedule and size of burns are not given on the homepage.

Merit Circle fees

Beam does not publish a fee schedule on its homepage, because it is an ecosystem and token project rather than a single trading product. Buying BEAM costs whatever the chosen exchange or DEX charges, plus network gas fees.

Fees for ecosystem products such as the Dreamcash trading app are set by those products and the venues they run on. Check the relevant app before trading. The homepage does not state the burn rate or any foundation fees.

Is Merit Circle safe?

The homepage does not link audit reports, and it does not name the team. DefiLlama lists two audits for the project, but the details are not given in the material available here. Anyone holding BEAM should verify contract addresses through official channels and use a wallet they control.

The main risks are market risk on the token, the concentration and valuation of treasury holdings (for example, Aethir is described as one of the largest positions), and execution risk across many partner projects. The Dreamcash app offers up to 40x leverage on perpetual futures, which can cause rapid losses. Regulatory treatment of tokens and leveraged trading varies by country, so check what applies where you live.

6 steps

How to get started with Merit Circle

  1. 1

Read the mission, treasury and governance pages on the official site to understand what the token represents.

  2. 2

Decide whether you want exposure to the BEAM token or to a specific ecosystem project, since they carry different risks.

  3. 3

Set up a self-custody wallet that supports Ethereum, Base or Avalanche, depending on where you plan to hold the token.

  4. 4

Use the Buy Beam link on the official site to find supported venues, and confirm the contract address from official channels.

  5. 5

Start with a small amount you can afford to lose and track announcements through the official Substack, Discord and Telegram.

  6. 6

If you hold the token, review open proposals on the Snapshot voting page before voting.

Who Merit Circle is for

Beam is for experienced crypto users who already follow the gaming-DAO space and want a long-term, governance-linked position in a project spanning DeFi, AI infrastructure and gaming. It is not aimed at people seeking a simple yield product or a fixed-fee service, or at anyone unable to tolerate large price swings.

Merit Circle FAQs

Is Merit Circle the same as Beam?

Merit Circle was a DAO focused on the play-to-earn gaming economy. It rebranded as Beam, and public reporting shows the token swap and redenomination from MC to a Beam token in late 2023. The official site now presents Beam as an innovation lab and ecosystem.

What does Beam actually do?

Beam describes itself as operating at the intersection of AI, trading and blockchain, with six divisions. Its ecosystem includes a trading app, a venture fund, GPU compute partners, a mobile racing game, and stablecoin and gaming-chain projects.

What is the BEAM token used for?

The homepage says all ecosystem value flows to the BEAM token, that a buy-and-burn mechanism reduces supply over time, and that holders can take part in governance. It also calls the token the network's primary currency.

Which blockchains does Beam run on?

The homepage says Beam is EVM compatible and available across Ethereum, Base and Avalanche. It also describes Beam as a sovereign L1 blockchain.

Is Beam safe?

The homepage mentions a crypto-native treasury and a Beam Foundation but does not publish audit reports or a full breakdown of holdings. Check the treasury page and governance votes on the official site before relying on any claim.

Can token holders vote?

The homepage links to a Snapshot voting page and a governance section. Holders are invited to propose and vote on changes to the ecosystem.
