Chikn Review 2026: Avalanche NFT Farming Game in Legacy Mode

Chikn is an NFT and farming project on Avalanche that launched in November 2021. Its collection of chicken NFTs was described as the chain's first collection of upgradable coqs. Holders earn an in-game token called EGG, and the wider ecosystem includes a breeding partner collection, Roostr.

The project has since reached a turning point. In a recent post, the team said that, almost five years on, ecosystem revenue no longer supports the level of ongoing operation. It is moving into a leaner, community-led Legacy Mode in which active development of the existing roadmap ends.

The stated priority is to preserve the permanent parts of the ecosystem: the NFTs, contracts, metadata, history and essential interfaces. Services needing servers or significant operating expense will be retired. The team said a transition plan would follow, and the project has not yet published every detail.

Chikn is a set of smart contracts and NFTs on the Avalanche blockchain. Users mint or buy chikn NFTs, which are the core assets. Holding and farming them produces the EGG token, and the team described an economy where the token is used for gaming, breeding and future NFTs.

At launch, the team described a tri-token architecture and planned work on liquidity pools so tokens could be traded on Avalanche exchanges. Upgrades and breeding were meant to give the NFTs ongoing utility, with the Roostr collection as a breeding partner.

Under Legacy Mode, the permanent on-chain parts, such as NFTs, contracts and metadata, are meant to persist. Components that depend on servers and active development may be retired. A transition plan was promised, so how the farming loop works in practice may change.

The project does not publish a fee schedule in the material available. Costs would include Avalanche network gas for minting, farming, claiming and transfers, plus any marketplace fees charged when buying or selling NFTs or EGG.

The sources do not name an audit report. The team said at launch that it intended to have the code professionally audited, targeting December 2021, and it published the mint contract on GitHub. It also said the contract is upgradeable, so users depend on whoever holds upgrade permissions. Check contract ownership and permissions yourself before relying on any contract.

The larger risk is operational. With active development ending and services being retired, farmers may need to act on instructions, and unsupported interfaces can become targets for fake sites. Use only links published by the team's official channels. The project does not publish licensing or regulatory details, and NFTs and tokens like EGG are volatile, so only commit money you can afford to lose.

Chikn is for existing holders who need to follow the transition, and for collectors interested in Avalanche NFT history. It is a poor fit for anyone who expects new features, active support or reliable farming yields.
