ActiveAavegotchi Review 2026: NFT Game and GHST Move to Base
Aavegotchi is an NFT collectibles game with a DeFi-staking origin, now moving to Base. It has a clear concept and active updates, but on-chain activity listed on DefiLlama is small.

Our verdict on Aavegotchi
6.4/10Aavegotchi suits players who like collectible NFT games and are comfortable with wallets, tokens and bridging. Its main strength is a coherent concept, one customizable avatar across multiple games, backed by recent updates and developer tools. The main caveat is size and uncertainty: tracked TVL is small, crypto gaming has been quiet, and the move to Base and a changing studio role add risk. Treat it as a speculative game, not a source of income.

What is Aavegotchi?
Aavegotchi is a blockchain game built around collectible onchain companions called Aavegotchis. It launched in the DeFi and NFT space, and DefiLlama lists it under Gaming with the description Provably-rare DeFi-staked Crypto Collectibles, powered by Aave. It has been tracked since October 2021 and has a token, GHST.
The homepage now says the project is on Base and offers a Migration FAQ. It promotes games, a leaderboard, a marketplace called Gotchi Baazaar, a Forge, auctions, governance and a developer program. The site is run by Pixelcraft Studios, according to its footer.
Recent posts show a project still publishing. A January 2026 post acknowledges a quieter period for crypto gaming. A March 2026 post announces Gotchi Battler tournaments with 100k GHST prizes. A May 2026 post, Beyond the One Studio Model, says Pixelcraft has been the primary studio steward and hints at a broader structure.
On-chain numbers are modest. DefiLlama shows TVL of about $5,564, up 5.2 percent over seven days, on Polygon and Ethereum. That figure may not capture activity after the move to Base.
How Aavegotchi works
Aavegotchi combines an NFT game with DeFi roots. Each Gotchi is an NFT, a collectible ghost-like character that you own in your wallet. DefiLlama describes the original concept as provably rare, DeFi-staked crypto collectibles powered by Aave.
You play games with your Gotchi, and the homepage says it can be upgraded through active gameplay, increasing its rarity and power. You can also dress it with wearables and trade it on open marketplaces. Rewards are described as tokens, XP and giveaways, with GHST as the main token.
The project is now presenting itself as based on Base, with a migration path for existing holders. Developers can build additional games that use the same avatar, which is the idea behind the one avatar, multiple games pitch.

Pros and cons
What we like
- Clear, distinctive concept: one avatar usable across several games
- Active publishing, including 2026 roadmap, tournament and governance posts
- Open trading of Aavegotchis and wearables on onchain marketplaces
- Developer documentation and SDKs invite third-party games
- Two audits are listed on DefiLlama
- Long track record, listed since October 2021
Watch out for
- DefiLlama TVL is only about $5,564, which suggests very little value locked in the original contracts
- The project has gone through what its own team calls a quieter period for crypto gaming
- The migration to Base means older Polygon and Ethereum setups may be outdated, which can confuse new users
- The yield-bearing and earn language invites speculation, and the homepage gives no figures on returns
- A May 2026 post titled Beyond the One Studio Model suggests the stewardship is changing, and the project does not say how
- Fees, audit details and security track record are not laid out
Aavegotchi fees
The project does not publish a fee schedule. Costs would come from network gas on the chain used, any marketplace fees on Gotchi Baazaar or auctions, and swap or bridge fees when buying GHST.
Users should check the marketplace and the swap or bridge screen they use to see the exact fee before confirming a transaction.
Is Aavegotchi safe?
DefiLlama lists two audits for Aavegotchi, but the project does not say who performed them, when, or what they covered. No hacks or incidents are mentioned publicly, though that is not proof none occurred. Assets are held in your own wallet, so wallet security is your responsibility.
The move to Base and any migration of NFTs or tokens adds operational risk. Use only the official site and its documented migration steps, and watch for phishing sites that imitate migration pages. NFT and GHST prices are volatile, and game rewards are not guaranteed income.
6 steps
How to get started with Aavegotchi
- 1
Read the Migration FAQ and the What Is GHST page on the official site, especially if you hold assets from the earlier Polygon or Ethereum version.
- 2
Set up a self-custody wallet that supports Base and keep a small amount of ETH on Base for gas.
- 3
Get GHST on Base using the options the site lists, such as an in-app swap, a bridge or a DEX.
- 4
Sign in to play from the official site and try one of the playable games before buying expensive assets.
- 5
Browse Gotchi Baazaar or auctions to see current prices for Aavegotchis and wearables.
- 6
Start with an amount you can afford to lose, since NFT and token values can fall sharply.
Who Aavegotchi is for
Aavegotchi is for people who enjoy collecting and customizing NFT characters, want to try onchain games, and can follow a migration guide on their own. It is less suited to anyone looking for steady yield or a low-risk DeFi position.
Aavegotchi FAQs

Which blockchain does Aavegotchi use?
The homepage says Aavegotchi is now on Base and has a Migration FAQ for existing holders. DefiLlama still lists Polygon and Ethereum as the chains with tracked activity, so check the official migration FAQ before moving assets.
Can you make money playing Aavegotchi?
The homepage advertises earning rewards, tokens, XP and giveaways through play, and the site has a FAQ entry on making money. No earnings figures are published publicly, and token rewards can lose value, so treat any earnings as uncertain.
Can developers build on Aavegotchi?
Yes. The homepage invites developers, artists and creators to build on Aavegotchi using modular SDKs and onchain assets, and it links to documentation.
