ActiveBTCD Review 2026: 50/50 BTC/USD Yield and Leveraged Vaults
BTCD is a 50/50 BTC/USD base token on Ethereum that pays yield through a staked version, sBTCD, and leveraged vaults built on top. It is a young, small protocol with a layered design, so the main takeaway is to understand the leverage before depositing.

Our verdict on BTCD
6.0/10BTCD suits experienced DeFi users who want BTC or USD yield and understand leveraged loops and Morpho markets. Its main strength is a clearly described structure with two listed audits and published on-chain positions. The main caveat is that it is new and small, with about $244k in TVL, and the vaults use leverage, so returns are variable and losses are possible. Read the audits and docs, and size any deposit with that in mind.

What is BTCD?
BTCD, also called Bitcoin Dollar, is a DeFi yield protocol on Ethereum. Its base token is backed by a continuously rebalanced 50/50 portfolio of BTC and USD assets. Staking BTCD gives sBTCD, which receives the portfolio's yield, and FISC acts as the governance token.
On top of that, the protocol runs two vaults. The USDC Vault gives USD-denominated yield through a 2x leveraged sBTCD loop. The wBTC Carry Vault gives BTC-denominated yield. DefiLlama tracks BTCD under Yield on Ethereum and Arbitrum, with about $244k in TVL and two listed audits.
The project is new on DefiLlama, listed since May 2026, and the TVL is small. The homepage pitches institutional-grade yield and targets funds, treasuries and DeFi users.
How BTCD works
BTCD is a token backed by a portfolio held 50% in BTC-side assets and 50% in USD-side assets. The portfolio is rebalanced continuously. The homepage lists three yield sources: yield on BTC-side assets, yield on USD-side assets, and a rebalancing premium from buying low and selling high.
That yield is paid through sBTCD. Staking BTCD gives sBTCD, which entitles the holder to the portfolio's yield. DefiLlama adds that internal RFQ rebalancing between vaults handles exposure shifts as BTC moves.
The vaults package sBTCD and borrow away one side of the exposure. The USDC Vault leaves the depositor with 100% USD exposure, while the wBTC Carry Vault leaves 100% BTC exposure. Both use leveraged sBTCD positions, and the resulting tokens such as bdUSD can be lent on Morpho for additional yield.

Key features
01
50/50 BTC/USD base token
BTCD is backed by a continuously rebalanced 50/50 BTC/USD portfolio. Yield comes from BTC-side assets, USD-side assets and a rebalancing premium.
02
sBTCD staking
Staking BTCD gives sBTCD, the yield-bearing token that receives the portfolio's yield. The vaults are built on top of it.
03
USDC Vault
Deposit USDC to earn USD-denominated yield through a 2x leveraged sBTCD loop. The homepage notes no cooldown and a 7-day average yield of 12.56%.
04
wBTC Carry Vault
Deposit wBTC to earn BTC-denominated yield via the leveraged sBTCD engine. The homepage lists a 0.2% withdrawal fee, no cooldown and a 3.47% 7-day average yield.
05
Morpho lending markets
bdUSD, the USDC Vault token, and sBTCD-backed wBTC markets can be used on Morpho. Lenders earn yield from vault borrow demand.
06
On-chain transparency reporting
The project publishes live positions and collateral on a dashboard and says it uses an independent third-party price oracle.
07
FISC governance token
FISC holders vote on protocol parameters and earn protocol revenue, backed by a buyback-and-burn mechanism.
Pros and cons
What we like
- Clear split between a base token, a staking token and vaults, with each exposure described on the homepage
- Two audits are listed on DefiLlama and the homepage says audit reports are available
- Live positions and collateral are published on a dashboard, with an independent price oracle
- Vault users can pick USD-only or BTC-only exposure with no cooldown listed
- Lending markets on Morpho give extra ways to earn on vault tokens
Watch out for
- Very small TVL of about $244k per DefiLlama, and the protocol only appeared on the tracker in May 2026, so the track record is short
- The vaults use a 2x leveraged sBTCD loop, which adds liquidation and unwind risk beyond simple staking
- BTCD traded at $0.9189 against USDC on Uniswap on the homepage, a reminder that the 50/50 token does not hold a fixed price
- The wBTC Carry Vault charges a 0.2% withdrawal fee, and other fee details are not clearly published on the homepage
- Advertised yields are 7-day averages and can change; the USDC/bdUSD Morpho pool showed 0.00% supply APY at the time of the homepage snapshot
- Several pieces (BTCD, sBTCD, bdUSD, FISC and the vaults) make the design harder for newcomers to follow
BTCD fees
The only explicit fee on the homepage is a 0.2% withdrawal fee on the wBTC Carry Vault. The USDC Vault is listed with no cooldown, but no fee schedule is shown publicly.
Performance, management or protocol fees on sBTCD and the vaults are not published in the material reviewed. Users should check the docs and the app before depositing. Normal Ethereum gas costs and any Uniswap swap costs when buying BTCD would also apply.
Is BTCD safe?
DefiLlama lists two audits, and the homepage links audit reports, mentions continuous code review, automated security scans and 24/7 monitoring. The names of the auditors and any findings are not public reviewed, so readers should read the reports themselves. No hack or incident appears.
Risk remains significant. The vaults use leverage through sBTCD loops and overcollateralized Morpho markets, which can expose users to liquidation, oracle and smart-contract risk. The protocol is new, TVL is small, and BTCD traded below $1 on Uniswap per the homepage. The project does not describe custody of the underlying portfolio assets, so check the docs. Regulatory status is not stated. DeFi deposits are not insured.
6 steps
How to get started with BTCD
- 1
Read the docs and the transparency dashboard to understand the 50/50 portfolio and how the vaults use leverage.
- 2
Choose an exposure: BTCD staking for the portfolio yield, the USDC Vault for USD exposure, or the wBTC Carry Vault for BTC exposure.
- 3
Connect an Ethereum wallet and use the Launch App button on the official site.
- 4
To hold BTCD, buy it on Uniswap, then stake it to receive sBTCD. US users can also see the homepage mention of the Coinme app.
- 5
Check current yields, fees and withdrawal terms in the app before depositing. Start with a small amount.
- 6
Monitor the position, since yields are averages and leveraged vaults can change in risk as markets move.
Who BTCD is for
BTCD is for DeFi users, funds and treasuries holding BTC, wBTC or USDC who want on-chain yield and accept smart-contract and leverage risk. It is less suited to beginners or anyone who needs a long track record or a fixed-price asset.
BTCD FAQs
What is BTCD?
BTCD is a base token backed by a continuously rebalanced 50/50 portfolio of BTC and USD assets. It is meant to capture Bitcoin exposure at roughly half the volatility, while the portfolio earns yield on both sides.
What is sBTCD and how does it earn yield?
sBTCD is the staked version of BTCD. Staking BTCD into sBTCD entitles holders to the portfolio's yield. The homepage listed a 7-day average sBTCD APY of 8.13% at the time of the snapshot, which can change.
What is FISC?
FISC is the governance and value-accrual token. The homepage describes a fixed 10B supply with a buyback-and-burn mechanism, and says holders can vote on protocol parameters and earn protocol revenue. DefiLlama lists no token for the project.
What is the difference between the USDC Vault and the wBTC Carry Vault?
The USDC Vault takes USDC and produces USD-denominated yield through a 2x leveraged sBTCD loop. The wBTC Carry Vault takes wBTC and aims for BTC-denominated yield through the same sBTCD engine. Each removes one side of the 50/50 exposure.
Is BTCD audited?
The homepage says audit reports are available, and DefiLlama lists two audits. It also mentions continuous code review, 24/7 monitoring and a third-party price oracle. Leveraged strategies and smart contracts still carry risk, so audits do not remove it.
Which chains does BTCD run on?
DefiLlama lists Ethereum and Arbitrum. The homepage says the protocol is built on Ethereum with crosschain interoperability.
