AlphaFi Lending Review 2026: Wind-Down After an Oracle Error

AlphaFi Lending (AlphaLend) was a lending and borrowing protocol on Sui. It is now winding down after an oracle error created bad debt, with withdrawals open and new loans blocked.

Our verdict on AlphaFi Lending

3.0/10

AlphaFi Lending is not a protocol to start using. It was a Sui lending market with a 0% borrow fee and vault rewards, but an ALPHA oracle misconfiguration created bad debt and the team is now winding it down. Withdrawals remain open and new loans are blocked. This page is mainly useful for existing depositors and borrowers who need to understand their position and exit while withdrawals are available. New users looking for Sui lending should look at active alternatives and study oracle and collateral risk first.

What is AlphaFi Lending?

AlphaFi Lending, also known as AlphaLend, is a lending and borrowing protocol built on the Sui blockchain. Users could deposit assets to earn interest or lock them as collateral to borrow other assets. It was part of the wider AlphaFi platform, which also offered strategy vaults and an ALPHA token.

The protocol is no longer a normal active market. AlphaFi has announced that it is winding down in an orderly way and is in maintenance mode. Withdrawals remain open, but users cannot take new loans. Reports link the wind-down to an ALPHA oracle misconfiguration that created bad debt.

One report puts the lending markets at about $63.5 million in total value locked the day before the wind-down. Current figures show roughly $1.7 million, after a further drop of about 25% in the past week. The project's roadmap and earlier marketing described a fast-growing Sui-native lender, which makes the reversal notable.

How AlphaFi Lending works

AlphaLend is a pooled lending market. Depositors supply assets to a shared pool and earn interest paid by borrowers. Borrowers lock collateral worth more than what they take out, so the pool is protected if prices move.

The system relies on price oracles, which feed asset prices to the smart contracts. These prices decide how much someone can borrow and when a position is liquidated. If an oracle is wrong, the protocol can allow too much borrowing against an asset that is not worth what the contract believes.

Reports say this is what happened with the ALPHA token: an oracle misconfiguration led to bad debt, meaning loans worth more than their collateral could cover. The team then moved to a wind-down, with new loans blocked and withdrawals left open.

6 features

Key features

01

Permissionless lending and borrowing

Users could deposit digital assets on Sui to earn interest, or post them as collateral to borrow other assets.

02

0% borrow fee

AlphaFi promoted a 0% borrow fee, with revenue coming mainly from other parts of the platform.

03

Strategy vaults

Select strategy vaults paid ALPHA emissions on top of the underlying yield, with a 20% performance fee on that yield.

04

ALPHA token rewards

ALPHA could be earned through vault emissions, and part of the fee income was routed to ALPHA vault participants as SUI rewards.

05

Sui-native design

The protocol is built on Sui and requires a Sui-compatible wallet to use.

06

Maintenance mode

The protocol is in maintenance mode: withdrawals stay open while new loans are blocked.

Pros and cons

What we like

  • The project has stated an orderly wind-down, with withdrawals kept open
  • Borrowing was marketed with a 0% borrow fee
  • Two audits are listed for the protocol
  • Native to Sui, with a clear lending and borrowing design
  • Public documentation covers the ALPHA token, strategy vaults and fee split

Watch out for

  • The protocol is winding down, so there is no ongoing lending or borrowing business to use
  • An ALPHA oracle misconfiguration created bad debt, which is a serious failure in a lending protocol's core risk controls
  • Total value locked fell from tens of millions to roughly $1.7 million, a steep loss of depositor confidence
  • New loans are blocked, so the product no longer does what a lending market is meant to do
  • The ALPHA token's utility is tied to a platform that is being closed down
  • Team identities and full audit reports are not set out in the material reviewed

AlphaFi Lending fees

Before the wind-down, AlphaFi marketed a 0% borrow fee on AlphaLend. Its documentation also says it charges no fee for bringing assets into the platform. Network gas fees on Sui still apply to any transaction.

Strategy vaults carry a 20% performance fee on the yield they generate. Part of that fee is split to pay SUI rewards to ALPHA vault participants. These terms belong to a product now in maintenance mode, and the project does not publish a fee schedule for the wind-down period.

Is AlphaFi Lending safe?

The main safety fact is the incident itself. An oracle misconfiguration around the ALPHA token created bad debt, and the protocol is now winding down. Oracle and collateral-listing risk is a known weakness in lending protocols, and this case shows how a single bad configuration can damage a whole market.

Two audits are listed for the protocol, but audits do not remove configuration or oracle risk. The material reviewed does not say how the bad debt will be covered or whether depositors face losses, so treat any funds still in the protocol as at risk. The project does not publish a legal or regulatory status in the sources reviewed.

Smart-contract protocols are self-custodial in the sense that users keep control of their wallets, but deposited funds sit in contracts. Use only official channels, double-check URLs, and be wary of recovery scams.

6 steps

How to get started with AlphaFi Lending

  1. 1

Do not deposit new funds: the protocol has stopped new loans and is closing.

  2. 2

If you hold a position, check AlphaFi's official site and verified social account for the latest wind-down notices.

  3. 3

Connect the same Sui wallet you used before, and make sure you are on the genuine site, not a lookalike.

  4. 4

Withdraw your supplied assets while withdrawals remain open, keeping some SUI for gas.

  5. 5

Review any open borrow positions and follow the project's instructions on repayment.

  6. 6

Beware of unsolicited messages offering recovery help; scams commonly target users of failing protocols.

Who AlphaFi Lending is for

This review is mainly for people who already hold funds or positions in AlphaFi and want to understand the wind-down, and for researchers studying oracle failures in lending protocols. It is not for anyone looking for an active lending market, since new loans are blocked and the product is closing.

AlphaFi Lending FAQs

Is AlphaFi Lending still active?

AlphaFi has said it is winding down in an orderly way. The protocol is in maintenance mode, so withdrawals remain open but new loans cannot be taken. It should be treated as a closing product, not an active lending market.

Why is AlphaFi winding down?

Reports say an oracle misconfiguration affecting the ALPHA token created bad debt in the lending markets. The wind-down followed. The full technical post-mortem is not reproduced here, so check AlphaFi's official announcements for details.

Can I still withdraw my funds from AlphaFi?

According to the project's own statement, withdrawals remain open during maintenance mode. Anyone with funds in the protocol should check official channels for current instructions and any changes to that status. Using only the official site and verified accounts reduces phishing risk.

Can I still borrow on AlphaLend?

No. The project states that users cannot take new loans in maintenance mode. Existing borrowers should consult official announcements about repayment and any position changes.

What is the ALPHA token?

ALPHA is AlphaFi's own token. It was earned through strategy vault emissions and tied into fee distribution and rewards. With the protocol winding down, its future utility is uncertain, and this is not financial advice.

What fees did AlphaFi charge?

Before the wind-down, AlphaFi described a 0% borrow fee on its lending side and a 20% performance fee on yield in its strategy vaults. It also said it charged no fee for bringing assets in. Those terms apply to a product that is now closing.
