What ORDI is
ORDI is a token built on the BRC-20 standard, an experimental format for creating fungible tokens on the Bitcoin blockchain. It is widely described as the first and best-known BRC-20 token. It sits at the intersection of two Bitcoin-era ideas: Ordinals and inscriptions.
Ordinals is a numbering scheme that gives every satoshi, the smallest unit of bitcoin, its own serial number. Once satoshis can be told apart, small pieces of data such as text or images can be attached to one. That process is called inscribing. BRC-20 uses inscribed text in a set format to record token actions like deploying a token, minting it and transferring it.
The Bitcoin network does not run smart contracts for BRC-20. Instead, outside indexers read the inscriptions and keep track of who holds what balance. ORDI is therefore less a feature of Bitcoin itself and more a convention that wallets, indexers and exchanges agree to follow.
ORDI is not the native coin of any blockchain. At the time of writing it ranks around 348th by market capitalization, and it appears under categories such as meme coins, BRC-20, inscriptions and Bitcoin ecosystem tokens.
What the token is used for
There is no widely documented protocol function for ORDI. It does not pay network fees, secure a chain, or give voting rights in a published governance system. the public information available for this page do not describe a formal utility, so it is best treated with that in mind.
In practice, ORDI works as a tradable asset and a reference point for the BRC-20 and Ordinals scene. Because it was the first token of its kind, many people view it as a bellwether for activity in Bitcoin-based tokens and inscriptions. Some commentary describes it as a meme coin, and our categories reflect that. Other writers frame it as proof that Bitcoin can host NFT-like assets and tokens, even though the base layer was not designed for that.
Holders generally use ORDI in three ways: holding it as a speculative position, trading it on exchanges against stablecoins like USDT, or moving it between wallets that support the BRC-20 format. Outside of that, there is no known product, subscription or service that requires the token. Anyone claiming otherwise should be asked for a primary source.
Supply and tokenomics
The data lists 21,000,000 ORDI as both the circulating and total supply, and no separate maximum is recorded. The number deliberately echoes Bitcoin's 21 million cap. With circulating and total supply equal, the fully diluted valuation matches the market cap, about $71.2M as of 2026-11-05.
BRC-20 tokens are usually distributed by an open mint process, in which users inscribe mint requests until the deployed supply is used up. Public information here do not include a team allocation, vesting schedule, emissions plan or treasury, so none are described. Public discussion generally presents ORDI as having a fixed supply that was minted rather than released on a schedule, but readers should confirm details from primary records instead of relying on summaries.
For context at the time of writing, the price was about $3.39 with roughly $10.4M traded over 24 hours. The token's all-time high was about $95.52 on 2024-03-04, and its all-time low was about $2.10 on 2026-03-29. It moved about -4.7% over seven days and about -13.2% over a year. These figures change constantly and are shown only to give a sense of scale.
Chains, holding and trading
ORDI's native home is Bitcoin, where it exists as inscribed data tied to satoshis. The data also lists Solana as a chain on which ORDI is issued, which generally means a bridged or wrapped version rather than the original BRC-20 asset. The two versions can behave differently, so it matters which one you hold and which contract or network a venue is using.
On the Bitcoin side, ORDI is held in wallets that support Ordinals and BRC-20 balances. Standard Bitcoin wallets may not display these balances, and sending from the wrong wallet or address can cause trouble. Transfers require inscribing a transfer instruction, which costs Bitcoin network fees and can become expensive when the network is busy.
Most people meet ORDI through centralized exchanges, where it trades against stablecoins such as USDT in spot markets. Using an exchange means the platform holds the underlying tokens and you hold a claim on them. Deposits and withdrawals must match the exact network the exchange supports. Some decentralized venues and marketplaces also handle BRC-20 tokens, but liquidity there is usually thinner than on large exchanges.
History and notable events
The Ordinals protocol and inscriptions arrived on Bitcoin in early 2023, and the BRC-20 experiment followed soon after. ORDI was the first token deployed under that format, which is why it carries symbolic weight. The exact launch date is not part of the data used for this page, so it is not stated here.
The token's most visible moment came in early 2024, when interest in Bitcoin ecosystem assets surged alongside a strong broader market. The recorded all-time high of about $95.52 came on 2024-03-04. Since then the price has fallen sharply. At the time of writing, as of 2026-11-05, it trades near $3.39, and a low of about $2.10 was recorded on 2026-03-29.
The broader story is one of a niche that attracted heavy attention, then cooled. Inscription activity pushed Bitcoin fees up at various points, and some Bitcoin community members criticized the use of block space for tokens and images. Others saw it as a legitimate expansion of what Bitcoin could record. Both views remain part of the debate, and ORDI sits in the middle of it.
Risks to understand
ORDI is a volatile, speculative asset, and its history shows it. A fall from a peak near $95.52 to a price in the low single digits is a large drawdown, and nothing guarantees recovery. This page does not predict prices or suggest buying or selling.
Several risks are specific to the format. BRC-20 balances depend on off-chain indexers, so differences in software or rules can lead to disagreements about balances. Transfers carry Bitcoin fees that can spike. Wallet support is narrower than for ordinary Bitcoin, and sending to an incompatible address can lead to lost tokens.
Other risks are more general:
- Liquidity: a market cap of about $71.2M means large orders can move the price.
- Lookalike tokens: copycat tickers and fake bridged versions exist, especially on newer chains.
- Counterparty risk: tokens left on an exchange depend on that platform's solvency and security.
- No clear utility: demand rests largely on sentiment and the Ordinals narrative.
- Scams: fake airdrops, fake mint sites and phishing links often target Ordinals users.
Only commit money you can afford to lose entirely.
How to store ORDI safely
Safe storage starts with choosing a wallet that explicitly supports Ordinals and BRC-20 balances. Check the wallet's documentation before sending anything, and test with a very small transfer first. A regular Bitcoin wallet might treat the satoshis that carry inscriptions as ordinary coins and spend them without warning.
Keep your recovery phrase offline, written on paper or metal, and never type it into a website, chat or screenshot. No legitimate service asks for it. If you hold meaningful value, a hardware wallet that works with your chosen Ordinals wallet adds a layer of protection, though support varies by device, so confirm compatibility first.
Some practical habits help:
- Use a separate address for inscribed assets and another for ordinary bitcoin.
- Confirm the network and token version, Bitcoin BRC-20 or Solana, before every deposit or withdrawal.
- Be wary of unsolicited links, mint pages and direct messages.
- Keep software updated and bookmark official sources you have verified yourself.
If you leave ORDI on an exchange, enable two-factor authentication and withdrawal address allowlists where offered, and remember that you are relying on the platform to keep your funds safe.
