What Nervos Network and CKB are
Nervos Network is a layered blockchain project, and CKB is the native token of its base layer, the Common Knowledge Base. The project's own description splits a crypto economy into two parts. Layer 1 is a verification layer that acts as a trust root and a custodian. Layer 2 is a generation layer meant for fast, cheap and private transactions.
The layer 1 chain is public and permissionless. It is built as a "store of assets" network, with a focus on keeping on-chain state secure and decentralized while heavier computation happens off-chain. Other chains and layer 2 systems can anchor to it for security.
The mainnet launched on 2019-11-15. The chain uses proof of work, and CoinGecko also tags the project as a smart contract platform, an interoperability project and a layer 2 or rollup-related project. We list it under Layer 2 tokens. The same tags describe it as quantum-resistant. Treat that as a label from a data provider, not as a guarantee of security.
As of 2026-11-05 CKB ranked around 408 by market cap, which puts it among the smaller assets. Nervos is an infrastructure project rather than a consumer app, so most people meet it as a token, a wallet or a bridge.
What the CKB token is used for
CKB has a few functions, and the idea that links them is that the token measures and pays for resources on the network.
Storage space. Holding CKB lets you occupy space on the chain. Data, accounts and assets live in units called cells, and each cell takes up space in proportion to the CKB it holds. In effect, the token works as a claim on a share of blockchain state. This is the design's answer to state growth, since space is limited and has to be paid for.
Transaction fees. Users pay fees in CKB, and miners receive them as part of their rewards.
Mining and block rewards. Miners earn newly issued CKB for securing the chain through proof of work.
Locking in the Nervos DAO. Holders can lock CKB in the Nervos DAO, a built-in deposit mechanism. Its purpose is to offset the dilution from the network's ongoing secondary issuance for people who are not using their tokens for storage.
The data we have does not describe any governance function beyond these, so treat CKB mainly as a resource and security token. Applications built on or anchored to the network may add their own uses.
Supply and tokenomics
CKB has no hard maximum supply listed in our data. At the time of writing, about 49.84 billion tokens were circulating, out of about 50.70 billion in total. That makes circulating supply close to total supply, so heavy unlock-driven dilution is not the main concern. The fully diluted valuation, about $57.4M, is only a little above the market cap of about $56.4M.
The economic design is where CKB differs from capped-supply coins. Its issuance has two parts. Base issuance follows a schedule that reduces over time, in a manner similar to Bitcoin's halvings. Secondary issuance continues at a steady rate with no end date. This is why the supply is not capped.
The point of secondary issuance is to pay for ongoing security and to charge for state occupation. Holders who occupy space with their tokens, or who lock them in the Nervos DAO, are compensated for it. Holders who do neither see their share of the supply shrink slowly.
Price context, as of 2026-11-05: about $0.00113 per token, down about 12.4% over seven days and about 60.8% over one year. The all-time high was about $0.0437 on 2021-03-31, and the all-time low was about $0.00080 on 2026-08-14. Daily volume was about $1.9M, which is thin.
Chains, wallets and trading
CKB's native home is its own layer 1 chain, so it is not issued on other networks in our data. Any version of CKB on another chain would be a wrapped or bridged representation, which brings extra counterparty and bridge risk. Check what you are actually holding before you send it anywhere.
On its own chain, CKB sits in wallets that support the Nervos address format. Some wallets are made for the network, and some hardware wallets and multi-chain apps support it as well. The chain's cell-based design means a small amount of CKB is needed just to hold data in a cell. As a result, very small balances can behave differently from what people expect on other chains.
Trading takes place mostly on centralized exchanges, and the volume is modest compared to larger assets. Spreads and slippage can be wider on thin markets, so large orders may move the price. Decentralized trading depends on bridges and applications in the wider ecosystem, and these vary in maturity.
The project's layered approach also means that other systems can plug into CKB as a base layer. Examples include Bitcoin-linked designs and layer 2 networks. The details of which of these are active change over time, so check each project's own current documentation.
History and notable events
Nervos was created by a team that also built the Cryptape company, and its mainnet went live on 2019-11-15. The project drew backing from venture investors. CoinGecko lists portfolios such as Multicoin Capital, Polychain Capital, Sequoia Capital, DragonFly Capital and Blockchain Capital among its associations. That signals early institutional interest, not that these firms still hold tokens today.
CKB's price peaked at about $0.0437 on 2021-03-31, during the broad market surge of that period. It has fallen far since then. The all-time low of about $0.00080 came recently, on 2026-08-14, so the token has been trading near its worst levels in 2026. At the time of writing, it was down by about 61% over the preceding year.
The project's technical direction has centered on its cell model, a virtual machine based on RISC-V, and interoperability work that lets other chains and assets use CKB as a settlement layer. We do not list specific partnerships or product launch dates here, because the data we have does not confirm them. For specific announcements, rely on the project's own channels and documentation.
Risks to understand
Price and liquidity risk. CKB is a small-cap asset with a market cap of about $56.4M and daily volume near $1.9M as of 2026-11-05. Prices can fall sharply, and exiting a large position may be difficult. The one-year decline of about 61% shows how severe this can be.
Inflation. Because supply is uncapped and secondary issuance continues, holders who neither use nor lock their CKB face dilution over time.
Adoption risk. The design is technically distinctive, but it is also less familiar than the account-based model used by most smart contract chains. Developers may find it harder to build for, and the ecosystem is smaller than those of the leading platforms.
Competition. Many projects aim to be settlement layers or interoperability hubs, including Bitcoin-adjacent designs. There is no assurance that CKB will keep or gain a place among them.
Bridge and smart contract risk. Wrapped assets and cross-chain tools add attack surface. Bridges have been a frequent target in crypto generally.
Security model. Proof-of-work chains rely on miners remaining profitable. If rewards stay low against costs, the security budget could come under pressure.
Nothing here is investment advice. Only commit money you can afford to lose.
How to store CKB safely
The safest general approach is to keep CKB in a wallet where you control the keys, rather than leaving it on an exchange. Exchange accounts can be frozen, hacked or may fail.
Pick wallets that explicitly support CKB. Check the official documentation for the network and use only wallets it lists or that are widely reviewed. Send a small test transaction first, and confirm the address format before transferring a larger amount.
Back up your recovery phrase offline. Write it on paper or metal and store it somewhere secure, ideally in more than one place. Never put it in a screenshot, a cloud note or a message, and never give it to anyone. Genuine support staff will not ask for it.
Consider a hardware wallet for any meaningful balance, if it supports the network, and check compatibility before you buy one.
Be wary of bridges and unknown apps. Use only audited, well-established tools. Read every signing prompt, and avoid approving transactions you don't understand.
Watch for phishing. Fake wallet sites and fake airdrop offers are common in crypto. Type addresses carefully, bookmark official sites, and double-check what you are about to sign.
Also keep in mind the minimum cell size: leave enough CKB in your wallet to cover fees and any cell requirements.

CKB FAQs
What is CKB used for?
CKB is the native token of the Nervos Common Knowledge Base, the layer 1 of Nervos Network. It is used to pay fees, to occupy storage space on the chain, and to reward miners. It can also be locked in the Nervos DAO.
Does CKB have a maximum supply?
No hard cap is listed in our data. At the time of writing, about 49.84 billion CKB were circulating out of about 50.70 billion total. Issuance includes a reducing base schedule and a continuing secondary issuance, so supply keeps growing slowly.
Is CKB a proof-of-work coin?
CKB uses proof of work, so miners secure the chain and earn rewards. Most holders simply buy or hold the token rather than mine it. Mining profitability depends on hardware, power costs and the network's current conditions.
Why is CKB's price so far below its all-time high?
As of 2026-11-05 the price was about $0.00113, down roughly 61% over one year and well below its 2021-03-31 high of about $0.0437. The all-time low of about $0.00080 was recorded on 2026-08-14. We do not predict prices or give buy or sell advice.
Is CKB a risky asset?
Yes. Because it is a small-cap token with low trading volume, price swings can be large and exiting a position can be hard. Further risks are the uncapped supply, a smaller ecosystem and bridge exposure. Only use money you can afford to lose.
How should I store CKB?
Use a wallet that explicitly supports the Nervos network and keep your recovery phrase offline. Send a small test transfer first. For larger balances, a compatible hardware wallet is worth considering.
What is the market cap of Nervos Network?
As of Nov 6, 2026, Nervos Network had a market cap of about $55.3M, ranking #408 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.
What is the all-time high of CKB?
Nervos Network's all-time high is $0.0437, reached on Mar 31, 2021. Its all-time low is $0.0007964 (Aug 14, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.
What is the circulating supply of CKB?
As of Nov 6, 2026, about 49.85B CKB were in circulation; no fixed maximum supply is listed.
