What LayerZero and ZRO are

LayerZero is a cross-chain messaging protocol. It lets an application on one blockchain send a message to an application on another, and that message can trigger actions such as moving a token, updating a record or calling a contract. Many bridges and token issuers use it as their plumbing between networks. On our site the issuing project is listed as LayerZero V2, a bridge and messaging infrastructure product aimed at developers and asset issuers, connecting dozens of chains.

ZRO is the protocol's token. It is a separate thing from the messaging service itself: apps can send LayerZero messages without holding ZRO, and the token sits on top as a governance and economic layer. At the time of writing, ZRO ranks around 88th by market capitalization, which makes it a mid-sized asset rather than a top-tier one.

The design idea in LayerZero's published whitepaper is that each application chooses and owns its own security settings, rather than relying on one shared set of verifiers. That modular approach is what separates LayerZero from earlier bridge designs that used a single fixed validator group.

What ZRO is used for

The public record points to a few roles for ZRO, and some of them are still developing, so check current documentation before relying on any of them.

  • Governance and protocol economics. ZRO has been positioned as the token that ties the protocol's decisions and fee mechanics together.
  • Buybacks. A news item from October 2026 reported that LayerZero bought back about $347K worth of ZRO, which suggests protocol revenue is being routed toward the token in some form.
  • Gas and staking on a new network. Recent coverage describes a LayerZero-related blockchain called Zero, in which ZRO would act as the native gas and staking asset. Treat this as reported rather than settled, since details can change as the network rolls out.

Some third-party pages say validators stake ZRO to secure the network. LayerZero V2 itself lets each app pick its own verifiers, so descriptions of ZRO's security role vary between sources. The project's own documents are the better reference.

Holding ZRO is not required to use apps built on LayerZero, so demand for the token depends on how much of this economic design takes hold.

Supply and tokenomics

ZRO has a fixed maximum supply of 1 billion tokens, and the total supply equals that maximum, so no further issuance beyond the cap is indicated in the data we have. As of 2026-11-05, about 400 million ZRO were in circulation, roughly 40% of the total.

That gap matters. At a price of about $1.73, market capitalization on circulating supply was around $693.0M, while fully diluted valuation, which assumes all 1 billion tokens exist at today's price, was about $1.73B. Tokens not yet circulating are typically held by the team, investors, the foundation or community programs and may unlock on a schedule, which can add selling pressure over time.

We do not have a verified allocation breakdown or unlock calendar in our data, so we are not quoting percentages here. Anyone assessing ZRO should read the project's official tokenomics documentation and check vesting schedules directly.

Trading volume over 24 hours was about $64.9M at the time of writing, which indicates active but not extreme liquidity for a token of this size.

Chains and how ZRO is held and traded

ZRO is issued as a standard token on several networks: Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism and Avalanche. It is not the native coin of any chain in our data, although the reported Zero network could change that picture if it launches as described.

Because LayerZero is itself a cross-chain tool, ZRO can move between supported networks using the protocol's own token-transfer standards. Always confirm which network a given balance sits on before sending, since a transfer to an address on the wrong chain can be hard or impossible to recover.

Most people buy and sell ZRO in one of two ways: on centralized exchanges that list it, or through decentralized exchanges on the chains above, using a self-custody wallet. Centralized exchanges require account verification and may be unavailable in some regions. Decentralized trading needs a wallet, a small amount of the chain's gas token and care about contract addresses, because copycat tokens exist for most popular assets. Verify the contract address from the project's official channels.

History and notable events

LayerZero's token began trading in mid-2024, alongside a community distribution that drew wide attention. Its all-time high was about $7.47 on 2024-12-06. Its all-time low was about $0.71 on 2026-07-31, so the token has spent much of 2026 well below its peak. As of 2026-11-05 the price was about $1.73, roughly 3.8% higher over seven days and about 21.5% higher over one year, according to our data.

Recent events reported in the news include the introduction of ATLAS in August 2026, described as a backend system for matching, clearing, settlement and risk management for trading, and the October 2026 buyback mentioned earlier. Partnership announcements, such as asset issuers expanding to more chains through LayerZero, appear regularly on the project's social channels.

We do not list a verified launch date or a full timeline in our data, so for specifics such as the distribution terms, read the project's official announcements. Past price moves say nothing about what comes next, and this page does not offer buy or sell advice.

Risks to understand

Price and supply risk. ZRO has fallen far from its high and can move sharply. With only about 40% of supply circulating, future unlocks may weigh on the market.

Smart-contract and bridge risk. Cross-chain systems hold or route large value, which makes them attractive targets. A bug in the protocol, in an app's configuration or in a verifier setup can lead to losses. Because LayerZero lets each app choose its own security settings, the safety of a given bridge or token depends on how that app configured them, not only on LayerZero itself.

Dependence on adoption. The token's value is tied to how heavily the protocol is used and how well its economic design is captured by ZRO. If developers move to competing messaging systems, that link may weaken.

Evolving design. The Zero network and the token's gas and staking role are recent developments. Plans and terms can change.

Scams. Fake airdrop claim sites, lookalike tokens and wallet-draining approvals are common around well-known tokens. Never share a seed phrase and be wary of unsolicited links.

How to store ZRO safely

For anything beyond a small trading balance, a self-custody wallet gives you control that an exchange account does not. A hardware wallet is generally considered the safer option for larger holdings, because the keys stay offline and each transaction must be confirmed on the device. Software wallets are convenient for active use, but they sit on an internet-connected device.

A few habits reduce risk:

  • Write your recovery phrase on paper or metal, store it offline and never type it into a website or send it to anyone.
  • Confirm the ZRO contract address on the specific chain before you add the token or trade it.
  • Send a small test amount before moving a large one, especially across chains.
  • Review and revoke old token approvals, since unlimited approvals to a compromised app can drain a wallet.
  • Keep your wallet software updated and use a separate wallet for experimenting with new apps.

If you leave tokens on an exchange, use a strong unique password and two-factor authentication, and remember that you are relying on the exchange's solvency and security.

By the numbers

LayerZero in numbers

LayerZero (ZRO) is ranked #89 by market capitalisation, with a market cap of about $643M and a price of $1.61 as of Nov 6, 2026. Its fully diluted valuation is $1.61B, so roughly 40% of the eventual supply is in circulation today; tokens still to be released could add selling pressure.

The price was down 4.5% over 7 days, down 28.0% over 30 days, up 9.1% over the past year. It trades about 78% below its all-time high of $7.47, set on Dec 6, 2024.

About 399.98M ZRO are in circulation out of a maximum supply of 1B (40% issued).

24-hour trading volume was about $87.0M, or 14% of its market cap: high turnover.

ZRO has token contracts on 7 chains we track, including Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum. Always check the contract address before buying or bridging: copycat tokens often reuse a well-known name and ticker.

ZRO FAQs

What is ZRO used for?

ZRO is the token of the LayerZero protocol, which sends messages and token transfers between blockchains. It is tied to governance and protocol economics, and recent reports describe it as the gas and staking asset of a new network called Zero. Apps can use LayerZero messaging without holding it.

What is the total supply of ZRO?

The maximum and total supply is 1 billion ZRO. As of 2026-11-05, about 400 million were circulating, roughly 40% of the total, so the rest is still locked or held outside circulation.

Which blockchains is ZRO on?

ZRO is issued on Ethereum, BNB Chain, Polygon, Arbitrum, Base, Optimism and Avalanche. It is not the native coin of any of them, so check which network your balance is on before you send it.

Is LayerZero the same as ZRO?

They are related but different. LayerZero is the messaging protocol and infrastructure that apps and bridges build on, while ZRO is the token connected to its governance and economics. Many apps can use the protocol without ever touching the token.

What is the ZRO price and market cap?

As of 2026-11-05 the price was about $1.73, with a market cap near $693.0M and a fully diluted valuation near $1.73B. These figures change constantly, so check a live source. This page does not predict prices or advise buying or selling.

How should I store ZRO?

A hardware wallet is generally regarded as the safer choice for larger amounts, and any wallet requires an offline backup of the recovery phrase. Verify the contract address and network before transfers, and revoke approvals you no longer need.

What is the market cap of LayerZero?

As of Nov 6, 2026, LayerZero had a market cap of about $643M, ranking #89 among cryptocurrencies by market capitalisation. Market cap is price multiplied by circulating supply, so it moves with the price.

What is the all-time high of ZRO?

LayerZero's all-time high is $7.47, reached on Dec 6, 2024. Its all-time low is $0.7071 (Jul 31, 2026). Past prices say nothing about future returns.

What is the circulating supply of ZRO?

As of Nov 6, 2026, about 399.98M ZRO were in circulation, against a maximum supply of 1B.
